      Even younger than that…
My Godmother was a Army veteran and said parents sacrificed their kids (either strapping explosives to them or giving them weapons) because you wouldn’t think a little child would harm you.
Same in this scenario. The mom knew that the daughter would probably get a better “deal” but did not think about the fact that her involvement would come to light.
      Sad.

I would just like to state my sincere support and admiration for Mary. She grew up in an utterly chaotic environment of abuse and violence, was used as an instrument of murder, subjected to the pressures of prosecution and forced to testify against her own mother. And yet she found the strength to accept and perhaps forgive her mother and herself, to make something of her life in a helping profession, to even advocate for her mother's release and offer her her personal support and a place to live upon release. And finally I congratulate her for realizing the necessity to separate from her mother physically while at the same time still maintaining some measure of contact and support to this day. Mary is a STAR. I hope if she ever feels the need for help she gets it.

Wow...Thinking back to when I was 11-12 years old. I probably could have been coerced by my mom to do something I knew I shouldn't also. Children are/can be very vunerable, as they are so dependent on their parents, especially if they have been isolated from anyone outside the family they feel they can turn to. The pic on the podcast "bothers" me, with the mom's hands on Mary's shoulders & Mary's forced smile...of course, I may be wrong, but my own memories tell me this could have been a pic of me with my mom. It makes me cringe.
I'm so glad the police recognized what happened in this case!
I pray Mary has found some peace & good people to surround herself with. She deserves that.

I’d love to see an analysis of the Russian skating doping scandal. So many people blamed the young skaters saying they should have known they were being drugged or asked more questions. I don’t think people understand the power these Russian coaches wielded over these children.

    • @tammylaronde8593
      @tammylaronde8593 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was a figure skater.
      Start here.
Grigory Mikhailovich Rodchenkov. He is chemist. He is also a whistleblower who is under witness protection. Not only was he involved in the Sochi doping scandal, he was also doped during his athletic years.
He was also a part of the doping in London, 2012.
Russia lost 46 medals due to the Sochi scandal.
The combination of the abuse and doping of athletes is a viscious cycle. One that needs to be broken.
The IOC and ISU are not doing enough to put an end to it.
Russia has been doping athletes since 1968.
They do know that they are being doped. It's a norm in Russia.
They use puberty blockers, a cocktail of heart medications, and other cocktails of banned substances.
The abuse is physical and emotional.
The coaches who do this to their athletes are revered in Russia because they are bringing in the medals at the athlete's physical and emotional expense.

@@tammylaronde8593 that's absolutely crazy, I had no idea the Russian doping scandal ran that deep, 46 medals? Holy smokes, I definitely read it in the papers at the time but I didn't know it's been going on for so damn long, I'm just a little confused about the meds u were describing that they use, and while I certainly don't doubt what u are saying here however I was most definitely expecting the drugs the coaches are giving to Russian athletes to be more along the lines of traditional performance enhancing drugs we all know such as anabolic steroids, testosterone boosters, or even prescription stimulants like Ritalin and/ or dextroamphetamine/ amphetamines. So when I saw puberty blockers, I was super confused because from the things that I've heard about that stuff indicated to me that it slows u down a whole lot, and heart meds I dunno what heart meds would do, from what I have heard before about heart meds, is that most of them got ruff side effects that would likely do more harm than good in a physically challenging sport, the banned substances would make sense cuz that is what likely refers to the traditional performance enhancing drugs they use thatre already banned according to their laws, well I'm assuming that much anyways lol, but I'd totally love to see Dr..Grande do the doping scandal! Much love brothers and sisters!!

I just can't imagine how being coerced three times by Priscilla, to shoot her stepfather, must have affected Mary. The fact that she later allowed her mother to live with her indicates to me, that she was probably being coerced again....surely that's not something that you can easily put behind you and forget. I agree with Anna L below, that there should have been separate charges for the mental damage done to Mary, if nothing else. Considering that story, I think it is plausible that Wayne was capable of infidelity at any moment and that Priscilla was aware of that.
Considering that Priscilla was not above having an affair with a married man, there is a chance that Wayne had either another love interest in which he acted on or which he was willing to act on given the chance and that Priscilla would worry that fate was coming back for her.
Very interesting case, though it is no surprise that things turned out so badly.

Something was very strange about that child!!!

I think only the *evidence* should be allowed to speak in court when comes to an assertion of abuse, since he couldn't be allowed rebuttal to her claim of abuse (since he's dead). Testimonials and eye witnesses are the absolute worst kind of evidence that ever existed, and have put many innocent men in prison. The court often puts testimony and eye witness accounts as the highest form of evidence. This kind of evidence is dismissed as a matter of routine in the laboratory when searching for facts, so I'm not sure why it has so much weight in the justice system.
The man here cannot say anything in his defense, since he's dead.

Priscilla manipulating her minor daughter to pull the trigger suggests Priscilla knew and hoped the Justice System would minimize repercussions. Perhaps Priscilla could avoid any accountability in the death of her abusive husband. Horrendous using a child in this way, however I think the 10 year prison sentence was appropriate and 'enough'. Just my thoughts.....

I told my daughters when they graduated from college and was gone for good that at times I wish, selfishly, that they were average students, getting menial jobs out of high school and living at home. Sometimes teaching them independence gives them the tools to know not to be brainwashed by anyone, especially me. Only a selfish monster would want their kids to be involved in a crime that was beneficial to the people that are supposed to teach them right from wrong.

I would be willing to bet that the 'mercy recommendation' by the jury was the result of a negotiation in the jury room to convince a recalcitrant juror(s) to vote to convict in exchange for the recommendation. I base this on my experience as a juror. There are always one or two jurors who have personal doubts and/or might have entered the jury with the decision made beforehand to hold out for a certain verdict. I believe the prosecutors add charges to the indictment or provide a 'sentence recommendation' alternative to enable some negotiation inside the jury room.

I love the content, been subscribed for some time now. Been hoping sometime u could dig into the 2020 (April I think), mass shooting in Nova Scotia Canada, killing 22 people over the span of 13 hours dressed as an RCMP officer starting in portipique (spelling is probably wrong) and just shooting everyone he saw or pulled over for miles and miles, I don't think you've made any content on this however I could be wrong I just wanted to get this comment on here asap so you would more likely read it, so if you have already done this I apologize and I will find it.. the reason I want to see this other than how mind boggling this whole situation and fallout was is because I live in Dartmouth (Halifax Regional Municipality) where the shooters denture clinic was located, and it was so significant and tough for our province at a time when the pandemic first started and everybody on earth was scared to death of the virus because of the unknowns and the extreme dramatic response from governments around the globe 🌎 and this incident was the worst mass shooting in my beautiful Country's recorded history in terms of lives lost and the amount of time it was able to go on/ the massive area he was able to cover undetected where he was dressed as police driving a near perfect replica RCMP police cruiser. The other thing is with a total population of a little over one million people in Nova Scotia with almost half (40%) of the general population located within Halifax Regional Municipality, where he was on his way towards the end of the situation but was almost caught but he killed the cop and injured another set either his fake cruiser on fire, the cop' cruiser or both cruisers on fire then when someone stopped to help because he was dressed as police he killed them and stole their car and had to get gas almost right when he arrived in the HRM ,still somewhat rural but, he tries to gas up on the main strip of road going thru Enfield a former town, now a community apart of Halifax NS off of the Trans Canada Highway. He was likely heading to his denture clinic here in Dartmouth where they ended up finding more firearms and I think even drugs although im not sure, but I had met 2 of the victims obviously before they died and it was so random (in terms of the victims) men women children and even an unborn baby (who I believe survived? But I'm really not sure as my memory isn't so great however at least I can say I have a better memory than the actual president of the United States of America lol) however clearly it was semi planned, or planned to someday carry out! With illegal firearms and ammunition to the teeth. And multiple fake police cars they found, anyways I would LOVE TO SEE ur evaluation of the incident and opinion on his mental state. Thanks and keep up the amazing work u do!
