Castle Combe - Crash and Action - CTCRC Weekend - June 2023

  • The action from Castle Combe Circuit's "Summer Spectacular" race weekend, which saw the likes of the Classic Touring Car Race Club's variety of championships, MG Owners Club, Z Cars + Teekay Couplings GTI championships, Kumho BMWs and all of the Combe races except the GTs. Safe to say this one was a scorcher, that was until mid Sunday when a rather welcomed rain storm blessed the circuit; mind you I'm not sure the drivers were too pleased with the change in conditions because it evidently made the track really quite greasy... Unfortunately we had 3 cars into the wall in just one race for the Hot Hatch series, one of which ended up rolling over after the barrier seemed to act as a bit of a ramp as opposed to a wall. Overall, another good weekend of racing, the best Castle Combe meeting this year if you ask me!

Those Recticel barriers are amazing, hardly any damage when you hit them

Good launch ramps for rollovers too, much more fun than a standard light hit into the tyres and extra kindling to burn if it catches fire.....good-o!

@@cdname47 I think if you are hitting it hard enough to be launched into a roll over then you would not be set for a "light hit into the tyres". As for its fire retardant properties i accept that it probably isnt going to be great in this situation although where they have been used in the UK i cannot remember any example of one catching fire. Thats not to say it cant or hasnt happened yet. My comment was mainly attributing how little damage cars receive when hitting them which never used to be the case at quarry and in scenario where you have limited run off they do a great job at absorbing impact with much reduced damage when paired with the traditional tyre wall. Of course that doesn't mean that its perfect or can deal with every scenario, in the same way that Tecpro barriers can also catch fire.

That seemed a very unnecessarily damaging way to remove the bonnet pins at the end

    • @ScottPC

Bonnet was ruined anyway! Im sure they'd prefer access to the engine so the car doesn't burn to the ground lol

@@dancollier9837 it could have been just starting. If they don't check and it goes up, they get moaned at for not checking.

Great video 👍 Interesting to see how hard I was pushing from outside the car. I’ll have the onboard footage of that trip to the barriers uploaded in the next couple of days 🙈

Certainly giving the car everything it had, good to see no visible damage was caused and you could carry on! Look forward to watching the onboard.

8:34 - They were quick on fixing the foam barriers after that. At least the driver was able to walk about afterwards.
Definitly a day to remember. Both the wet, and dry races.

I just use the camera handheld, never really got on with a tripod for some reason.
