Don't feel alone in the February slump. I don't know what is going on but I'm in the same boat! Or I was. I'm enjoying what I'm reading now, but for days in a row I kept DNFing constantly and couldn't find something enjoyable!
stop making reading a priority, why people get burnout.

I have healthcare anxiety. I love this idea of rewarding yourself with something nice! I’m totally gonna start doing that.
Thanks for sharing about health anxiety, I also deal with that and am doing a bunch of appointments now in 2024. Trying to take care of myself, even though it’s very stressful

I have the sneaky suspicion you might love the veronica speedwell historical mystery romance series. veronica and stoker have a great slow burn. they are both incredibly clever and have some great banter :)
I was seeing this series on sale. I think I'm going to take this as a sign to bite the bullet and buy them

Ancillary Sword is my favorite in the series!! I’m glad you enjoyed it, lots of people seem to dislike the turn the series takes with that one but like you said I just love Breq and all the scenes of her outsmarting everyone around her

My health is definitely something I have been prioritizing lately. I have had some health scares, and it was a huge wake up call. We are only given one body, and we need to take care of them. I also have anxiety around going to the doctor, but I fear the consequences of *not* going more.
Even with the ACA, the US healthcare system is...well, it has problems, to put it politely.
truly the US health system gives me new health problems just thinking about it
OOh good, I thought I was alone in having a rough start to the new year when it came to my reading. This time last year I had 9-10 books done but so far I'm at 2 and a novella, haha. What a slump it's been!
I think I'll do the same and force a marathon over the weekend :)

I have been starting books getting invested and binge reading half the books in one night but the second i put them down…The energy is gone.
I pushed so hard to start the year out right, reading at least, that I pushed myself right into a slump dump. I just finished my second book for the month. Maybe I need to tough love myself out of this slump as well.

Gretchen Rubin maintains that going to the doctor as you should leads to long-term happiness because you are taking care of yourself. I also must reward myself for going to appointments I don't want to do. Blood draws don't bother me. The dentist bothers me.
I am really feeling the February slump! I just can’t figure out what I feel like reading. If you haven’t already, you should check out the Dangerous Damsels series by India Houlton (they do lean into some Victorian era romance tropes that are a bit whatever but the world building is so bizarre and fun! Flying houses, witches, pirates, fake marriages etc) It was my non-Emily Wilde, lite fantasy pick of last year ❤

I’m also in a slump. I’m using romance/romantasy to get back in because they’re easy and quick to read. Not gonna try to get through Stormlight right now 😂
The Affordable Care Act isn’t so affordable for everyone. I pay over $ 700 a month and they pay very little for prescriptions. I worked in education for 27 years and I’m not old enough for Medicare. So here I am paying a fortune after working hard my whole life. My mother has never worked and played the system and she received great healthcare through Medicaid. It’s frustrating to say the least.
100% !! Healthcare in the US is truly awful and we def need to make the ACA even more affordable (imo it should literally be free)
FYI it’s not “free” when taxpayers are paying for it. People’s understanding of obamacare is very simplistic and linear.

I've decided that my fantasy loving self just wants romance books this month.
It's been hit or miss. Like I've found a favorite of the year but other books have been disappointing for various reasons. 🤷♀️
