Thank you for this series. I am only 2 years saved, and I quickly fell into bible buying. And it was causing stress feeling like I HAD to use them all, but in reality I just could not. I was feeling like I had to read all the different translations to truly get the full picture. A few months ago, the Lord allowed me to see I had a problem, and I felt finally delivered from my Bible buying addiction. But then it was immediately replaced by Bible study workbook addiction! I’ve been relying on all these objects to help me grow in relationship with the Lord, but I can see now these things are actually hindering me. I enjoy the workbooks, but I can see they are feeding my academic/carnal mind, and I don’t actually feel any closer to Jesus. I also am feeling like the time for His return is near, and I need to eliminate all these distractions. My goal is to have just His voice from my main Bible be what I am reading and listening to. No extra study materials. I need to learn His voice. Thank you so much for these edifying videos. They have been confirming and perfect timing. I pray others will be blessed too.
i’m in the same boat! went from buying various study bibles to various devotionals and i’ve accumulated quite the collection. when i decided to stick to one bible (the same translation the church i attend uses) i have been able to focus more on the lord. i now only use my journaling bible and transcribe sermon notes from the week into it. i read and reread the passages the pastor preaches on.
Amen!! The enemy uses even bibles, commentaries, study bibles, studies to keep us distracted and “in the world” we need to be ready to go when the rapture happens and buying more is not doing us any favors. It’s real. And we need to repent and be ready now to leave this world behind. This is so serious.
It isn't about the collection of Bibles on your shelf but the collection of the Bibles within yourself. And praise God. It's a confirmation of my thoughts exactly about being prepared with everything being in such chaos. Everyone's worrying about their coloring Bibles! I would be more worried about memorizing the word within those coloring Bibles! There's no time for that! Be prepared for spiritual warfare!
I listen to you as I’m cleaning the clutter out of my home! I really enjoy your series of this! I was in therapy yesterday and began to tell my therapist about me having a Bible addiction. She’s a Christian as well, she told me I enjoyed the Idea of it all ( the supplies, the buying of the Bible’s & the gratification) vs reading the words! She was spot on. I told her I put a lot of pressure on myself to read the word the “ right way” she said my way is the right way!! I started buying my bibles during such a difficult time in my life. OOOH That made so much sense. I was a heavy note taking with my first Bible it has notes all over. My currently Bible is a Life Application Study- I don’t take as many notes however I have went to a standard notebook for addition notes. If i am interested in adding a note I find room or use good old sticky note. HE IS ENOUGH!! These material things don’t matter!!! Again, thank you! ❤
I was saved two years ago and started out with the NIV Life Application Study Bible (it was gifted to me). I started feeling like I wanted to explore other translations to compare. I now have seven Bibles all different translations. I don't feel like I need more. But I do this addiction thing with art supplies and was doing this with clothing too. Since being saved, I have looked around and realized I have TOO MUCH and have been giving things away and downsizing. It's a good feeling.
I have watched all of your videos on this subject and relate so much. I had a good stack of Bibles and gave some away. ( I still have 7 ) this is such a needed topic. I 100% agree that social media lead to my consumption (Bible Haul and Review Videos) but can we talk about how easily it is to have a Bible Journaling addiction too. I wanted my Bible to look like her Bible. Covered in notes, highlights, markings, stickers and sticky notes. The best tabs and Bible covers. Every Bible purchase was gonna be my tear up Bible my dig deep. I wanted mine to have all the things and would tell myself I’m reading my Bible, I’m taking notes and digging deep, coloring and watching Christian TH-cam videos. I wanted to have the most filled up loved Bible… but then I’d mark it all up and I could read it or make up my favorite verse and oh! Need a new Bible again and start all over.
@@Brazilmoon Bible Journalling addiction is a thing too!! A whole ago this year a TH-cam was taking about it. I can’t remember her name or channel. But she too was saying how her goal was to fill her Bible like others. And when it was all said and done she ended up keeping her Bible the way it was and started reading and writing notes out of the Bible. I have slowed down a lot too. I’m still big on highlighting and notes but I mainly read and meditate now.
Wow! I have watched each video and can relate to everything. I, too, grew up poor and once I starting working I would spend every cent I made. That was decades ago but with each increase in pay I just had more to spend. I could never save any money because I felt like I needed to have extra food in the house (which eventually went bad, so had to be thrown out) and cleaning supplies that expired. I have at least 15 bibles along with tabs, markers, post its, etc. I have one bible on my Amazon list ready for me to buy but after watching these videos, I'm going to delete it. Such an eye opener for me and I thank God I came across your first video on this subject.
Another deep and thought-provoking presentation of our life-long quest for holiness and relationship with our beautiful Lord. There's so much we need to let go of. Not easy at all, but He's worth it! Thank you for sharing, as always.
Great video…. I was buying Bibles and the excuse was I don’t understand this translation but the problem wasn’t the translation. I just wasn’t in my Bible enough to learn what I was reading. I hope I made sense saying that. So glad I’m part of this community and is able to come here to ask for prayers when I’m struggling with this. Thank you.
Love your videos. I use to think that a new bible would make me feel better. I now read the bible i have and pray 🙏 for my peace. Hope that makes sense ❤
Great message that applies to all aspects of our lives. I have too many houseplants. Not that I bought too many…they just grew and I propagated more. The problem is now I have to take care of them 😅. So, if someone comes to my house they will leave with a plant.
Char, your background sounds just like me. I grew up dirt poor. We had no running water, coal for heat in the winter, no air conditioning in the summer. The only clothes we received were hand me downs from people at church. I never knew what a leftover was until I became an adult. There was seven of us in my home and there was never enough food. When I became an adult and was able to provide for myself, I did exactly what you did. I would always make more food than what was needed, purchased more food than I could ever use, buy multiples of everything if I could get a good deal on it. Bibles are the same way. I have managed to reel that back some as I have matured. I do buy Bibles, and set them aside for when I come across someone who doesn’t have one. I will also give away Bibles that I have purchased for myself.
@@carolynbumgardner9262 you had a big family just like me. It’s been a journey throughout the years but yes to maturity. God is still working on me 🙏🏾 I have some at church in case someone needs one.
Remember...the serpent was subtle and able to appear as an angel.of light. And we suffer from no temptation that isn't common to man but God promises a way out. We will keep you in our prayers that your spiritual eyes and ears remain open. Stay blessed ❤
