Hey guys I hope y’all are enjoying these jacket battles. Also I am experimenting with no background music in this video. Let me know if you prefer it with low background music or without.
Rule 1: Being able to hear your words far surpasses any audio aestheticism. So whatever you do (low music, no music, instrumental music, etc), refer to Rule 1.
Love both companies and have ton's from each but....Arcteryx is simply in a different world, nothing compares to their fit, weight, zippers, and function.
Great review. I'm guessing now in 2024 with the new down sweater being 29% warmer than previous versions it's the warmer of the two. Would love to see a comparison for that.
Great review and comparison. I think opening music is AOK but I agree, music during the review is very distracting and would detract from your message. I ordered the Arc’teryx Cerium Lt after watching your video. I think you were very fair, objective and thorough and very helpful for those reasons. I should get my new jacket in the next several days and might come back to say how I like it.
This is some good content vs video. I’ve been hunting for a good mid layer for this year and I’m leaning into the Cerium LT/SL and the Atom LT. Might pull the trigger on the Cerium LT after this comparison. Keep up the very good comparisons.
Great work. Suggestion for your next few videos: perhaps you can go up and down a weight/durability category. 1. MH Ghost Whisperer vs Cerium SL vs micro puff 2. OR Helium Down vs Thorium AR vs Sweater Down
I can attest that on #2 the Thorium AR is the best for winter. The Down Sweater is more versatile in terms of temperature and occasions (work and outdoor). I don’t like the OR fit, as I prefer trim fit. Also, the OR is more focused on outside use, not so good for urban use. Just my $0.02.
I just picked up a Cerium LT for use as a midlayer for my skiing setup. I was hoping I could use it around town a bit since it's such a nice looking jacket. There's no way I could wear this around town. It's way too hot for that.
Jonathan I know your comment was a while ago, but I was thinking of getting the Cerium as layer for spring/fall camping/motorcycling and also to wear casually but is it really that hot?
@@andy.m7274 it's great if you're out for a walk, but if you are going out of the house and into a car, it just doesn't work. You're going to want the car to be 50 degrees and everyone else in it will hate you. I basically live in a North Face Denali fleece and that's just fine in the car. The Cerium LT is way warmer and gets clamy feeling if you're too hot in it. I do absolutely love the Cerium in my skiing setup though.
@@jonathansage2147 thanks for the reply, as for me it’ll be used as a spring/fall base layer under my motorbike jacket and for around the campsite so maybe it’ll work, haha if not my kids will steal it for snowboarding in the back country! Thanks again man much appreciated
@@andy.m7274 make sure you read and follow their sizing guide. I'm a medium in every other make. I'm a large in Arcteryx stuff and the guide is spot on.
I have the Patagonia and use it as my daily driver. If you’re talking weight it’s Montbell Plasma 1000 all day long. I am an UL backpacker so weight is big for me. Montbell is about 5.3 ounces. Those both will do the job just not for an UL nut like myself.
@@BackcountryRenegade They are. I usually go on their site way too much, especially at the end of the year and pick them up for about 50.00 off. I use mine only for backpacking. It has no pockets , it’s really only about weight savings and staying warm. Both of those jackets you reviewed would be better all around. Take care
Great review! I am thinking about getting the Cerium LT vest or the Patagonia down sweater vest. Long story, but I burned my favorite outerwear piece, The North Face Summit Series Quince down vest ☹️ and need a replacement.
I would test/try on both jackets. Dont let a youtube video made this decision for you. The Cerium Jacket has a awkward trim fit for an Acteryx. The Down Sweater is normally a lot cheaper compared to the Arcteryx. (I got my down sweater jacket on sale for around 120 AUD back in the days). The other advantage of the Down Sweater is the regular fit allows for a extra midlayer/fleece/sweatshirt. The regular fit is also better for an allround look in town..
Great review …still … the Arcteryx is roughly 50% more expensive than the Patagonia…so honestly unless price is not an issue it is not a fair comparison in my view…
+1 some might say it’s like comparing a VW and an Audi. Both are very good cars but if I could choice I’d go for the Audi. Same too with these two jackets, especially as Arc is rarely heavily discounted especially in the most popular sizes(S and M)
Chrome had a news article suggestion about Patagonia’s R1 series. It would be great if you could review the various products of their line. I’m possibly going to buy another jacket/hoodie from them and I would like to get more information from your first impressions.
I recently bought r1 air zip neck and after a week got the r1 air hoody as well. Extremely comfortable, very breathable (I run in them), the quality is top-notch. Don’t hesitate, best midlayer I’ve had. And the hoodie is so comfortable I use it daily as well.
@@tangoromeo My down sweater was just delivered and it’s everything that I expected. Thanks for the recommendation but I have one question: what’s the difference between R1 Air and the original R1 product line?
R1 air is both more breathable and warmer than the original. It’s the first design change they’ve made in over 20 years and for a good reason. Congrats on the down sweater!
Hi. Very good review! I really like Arcteryx's jackets! I have an Atom LT, Atom AR, and a Beta SV shell. It's clothes are more for my hiking, fat bike etc. I wanted to buy myself the Cerium LT for my more urban rides, go to work, and to have comfort. I saw the Rab Microlight Alpine at 30% off, so I bought it. Yes, the quality of down is lower, it's 700, but it'ss recycled and hydrophobic. The jacket is heavier than the Cerium LT, but it's still light and you don't really feel it. I prefer its stylized look, and I love its hood with the little visor that fits perfectly on the head. Have you tried the Rab Microlight? If so, how do you compare it to the Cerium LT?
I love your videos. I have difficulties to find information regarding the new version of the down sweater “Alplight” or “alpine downlab” jacket that seems to be quite similar to the down sweater but with a better compressibility, ratio light/weight and fit. Did you had the chance to try it ? Do you have some information about it ?
I have a ton of dead bird pieces. This is the only piece that doesn’t fit me well. The Cerium LT is slim and close to body. I didn’t like that it curved around my back tightly and pinched me under my arms. And I have same dimensions as the arcteryx model. This jacket made me look femme.
Both Arcteryx Cerium and Patagonia Down Sweater are becoming new version now. I'm looking forward to see your comparison between them, so much useful information. Do you want to review and compare again?
