    For me on the Patagonia the cuffs are much too wide. So I decided for the cerium Hoody.

    • @thatdude4000
      @thatdude4000 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They re designed it in 2022 and yes the cuffs are not tight let too much air out they got rid of the nice fleece material on the inside at the top zipper by your chin and the fit is more loosely it seems. I returned mine this year for that reason and a bunch of people have been complaint about the same thing also.

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have heard several people mention the slack in the cuffs being an issue for them. I see what they are talking about but I don’t feel it’s as big of a deal (for me). The cuffs on the Cerium are much tighter and would definitely be appreciated by a lot of people.

    • @thatdude4000

      I’m skinny so the slim fit is noticeable more I guess. I ended up going with another brand that I really enjoy a lot. Cool videos tho. If ya ever have a garage sale that would be fun.

    Ghost was my first, it’s insanely light but (two years in) I’m just waiting to tear that 10D or whatever on a branch or something. I generally use the Arc’teryx for daily wear but I think the Patagucci is the best pick. Wife and I got them for $150 each so hard to beat!

    Nice comparison Shawn. I like video where you wear them back to back so if we have one of those jackets, we can see how the other compares. I currently have a Cerium LT that is too tight across the chest and a Patagonia down vest. I feel like the right jacket to replace my cerium is the Patagonia down sweater.
    Again, much appreciated.

    Good selection. There are 2 I have for my list depending on season I do both. Torrid by EE and plasma by Mont bell. The synthetic Torrid is a solid moving layer that won't take all day to dry. It replaces midweight fleece and the plasma is even lighter and warmer and will extend the rating of your sumerlight WM bag maybe 5 to 7 degrees.

    I've tried both the Patagonia and the Cerium. Both are great but man - that cerium suited yoi better than all the others so if you want look dapper Dan on a camping trip for the Wild moose🤣🤣. The fit and look of it is amazing.
    I was going to go for the Patagonia as I can get a 40% discount but I've read a lot of reviews saying the 20 den is not robust and it's failing. Just seen the Cerium on sale in the UK for 240 quid so gonna grab it. Sure new model will be even better tho. Wonder when the release is?

    I bought Patagonia nano puff jacket three years ago for daily wear in Chicago. It is my favorite jacket and the one I grab heading out without thinking too much about it. Unless Patagonia screws this up, I will never look at any other brand again ever.

      Would you say if you had to buy one you would go with the nano puff or the down sweater? For colder days maybe just add a thicker base layer and shell on top? Or just have the extra warmth from the down sweater even on warmer days?

    • @talhashah
      @talhashah ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thegnarfox9487 Nano Puff is my favorite jacket. I prefer layering more than wearing a single thick jacket, but some times it just so cold that you need thicker base/mid layer and thicker jacket on top.
      Both jackets are super light. If you stay out in cold for longer periods of time, go with the down sweater; you can always unzip it a little if it starts to feel too warm.
      If I could pick only one jacket, it would be the Nano Puff, but I usually don't need to stay out in cold for more than a few minutes at a time. It isn't also as puffy as the real down jacket, which is a plus for me.

But for whatever reason, while the specs are great on the Ghost Whisperer (their new UL model is 1000 fill), and I've had good luck with some MH stuff, that SHINE keeps me away. I don't know why. My choice for a new down jacket this winter was the Rab Electron Pro (800 fill hydrophobic goose down). While it lacks drop pockets the two way zipper is really nice to have and the hood has a wired peak. Biggest downside is that this winter has mostly been too mild for it 😅

      Yea the Rab coat will be quite a bit more moola too. I say that only because most their products are kinda pricy. I love the Arcteryx but something no one mentions is down migration. A big issue in the antecubital are. I love the Cerium but it suffers badly from that and so strange Acteryx doesnt add a stitch chamber to keep that from happening. The NovaPro and Cotopaxi Fuego have it. If we don't say anything, they won't change it.

    I personally snagged the older style down sweater as they were releasing this variant. The legacy model has vislon zippers which are consistently much nicer than the coil zipper they switched to. From your experience, when comparing the Patagonia with the outdoor vitals how big of a deal is the non waterproof down aspect? Off camera did you add a shell back on to manage the snow? Would be primarily using for everyday wearing with the occasional ski day but I suppose could add a shell at that point. Just can’t swing a nice puffer and a nice waterproof shell at the moment.

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Great question. Here in Colorado, we have very dry snow (until the late spring). Which allows us to not have to (usually) worry about wetting out in most conditions in the winter. ie - skiing and snowboarding. I LOVE waterproof down. I rely on it for several reasons. But here is some $20 advice - you can treat any down with Nikwax Down Proof and attain a very good water resistant effect. So, in theory, and in practice, you can make your favorite down puffy water resistant for $20. Just food for thought. :)
      Off camera I did not have to use a shell as the snow was not too intense.
      I have a less than $100 option that I will be including in the next round up. Decathlon 100 down. th-cam.com/video/xDELg2USgBs/w-d-xo.html

      Good question. I feel like the Patagonia might be a smidge warmer. They have more fill in it than most of the others. But the OV has great warmth and fantastic features too. Tuff call!

    You should try out Norrøna, Mammut and Salewa jackets as well. Great comparison BTW 👍

      Thank you! Working on the Norrona. Love Mammut (use their beacon) and will look into Salewa. Great idea!

    Outdoor vitals blows the others away! The only jacket I’d like to see in the mix and see you review is the EB micro therm 1020fill. I still picked OV though because it is a nice company to support as I like their mission statement ! Keeping it kinda mom and pop store feels on top of that. Granted the Nova Pro is a bit heavier but you are getting some pretty massive upgrades directly related to the weight like pit zips, 2way adjustable hood and 20d Nylon vs most other coats coming half that with 10 so half the durability in nylon. The Nova Pro is not water proof but damn near it so I’d say it’s fine for 90% all rain interactions but for downpours I’d use a raincoat but think that’s obvious.
    I’m happy to see outdoor vitals really get there name out there with this product and I’m glad to support them!

      Heck yes! OV is great! Love what they are doing and the price point is very fair. We had Tayson on the Engearment podcast a few months ago. Great guy. Glad you are a fan of them too!

    I wish kuhl made a waterproof puffy in a true to size model. Their sizing is wayyy under standard. I really wish kuhl would up their size to be more accurate to a standard common size! The spyfire puffy is WAY under sized & I had to send 2 back to them, an xl & a 2xl. Went to cabelas & everything I tried on was xl & fit as expected. I had to settle for a columbia insulated jacket for $140 but it claims waterproof so thats a plus I guess. Kuhl really let me down on this one.

    I had 2 years ago Arc'teryx Cerium jacke and oo man how horrible that jacket is. It's like nylon bag,no absolutely breathable. It's strong jacket but my body get wet if material isn't breathable. I don't have problems with North Face 800 pro which i get this year. Breithorne i buy too. Also get Arc'teryx Thorium which didn't trt already i get it 2 days ago and looks too hot for 14-18C°. But i am sure for me Cerium was not good option. Sure i have now too many of them and need to get rid of some of them just don't know which one I'm gona save for my self. And also i am think to get one from Decathlon Forclaz MT100? Cheap and just wann see is it good
