That isnt water Alex, it's blinker fluid. It is low and you just need to add more and you're good to go! Cant wait to see the transformation... I have always wanted a rotary ;)

Vegar Hoem Gravråk who saw what on youtube?
No need to worry? Did you see how low the level was? There's probably a leak somewhere if it is that low so ya he should actually worry about it!
The water in the rear lights is actually collected tears from previous owners every time they had to fill the car up at the petrol station.
You killed it!! 😄

Brave picking a 2004 model, they're generally considered to be the ones with the most problems. Getting it rebuilt should solve a lot of issues though. I've owned my S1 231 for about 18 months and it's been almost faultless (only needed a new catalytic converter, and the wheels have corroded). They're brilliant cars with a bad (mostly undeserved) reputation. I'm not going to claim they're all reliable (they're not) but a lot of problems are brought on by owners not knowing how to look after a rotary.
A redline a day keeps a rebuild away.
omg.. you can buy steering wheel in finland with that price..
British cars are useless in Europe, resale value is mininal. Also crazy insurance rates
Well i bought my car for 250€ (Nissan Primera SLX P11 4D 2.0i) and it runs and drives and no big problems. (Oon itekkin Suomesta/i am also from Finland)

I bought an rx8 earlier last year and I love it to bits. Needless to say it does need a engine rebuild just before its next MOT in November this year. But the overall fun factor of the car makes all them little things seem not as bad to maintain. I love my rx8. Its last owner called it Rexy so I'm continuing on the name :) I bought it because of the shape, sound and fun factor. I knew it was juicey with fuel and oil but it really weren't as bad as what I'd thought it would be. :) love it and intend to keep it for as long as I can!
Amazing presentation. Keep up the good work my friend.

When i bought my RX7 in 1993 the engine failed at 95k. The tech guy from Mazda that checked the compression told me the std versions were usually good for 70k and the turbo 35k miles. Most turbo's were changed under warranty, they went so soon. When i stripped the engine and measured the rotor seals the wear would indicate a life of about 70k miles before they would fall out of their slot.. Perhaps if they were changed at 50k it would last longer.
Haven't even watched the video and I've liked it.

Really? Can get ones that nice for around 500-1000 US around where I live.
There are loads of cheap RX-8s about with questionable 60K+ motors, nobody wants to take the risk and the bodyshells are a bit of pain to do anything with as the engine bay is pretty tight.
@@redactedrider7606 maybe for someone just starting out working on cars. The rebuild kits are cheap and I can do all that easily. I would assume no matter how much I paid for a rotary powered that the engine is due for a rebuild because people don't drive them correctly, and instead want to treat them like a regular cylinder type engine.
Love these videos. Keep them coming.
Love that you guys are doing the rx8. Ive always wanted to try but the sensible me kept saying no to the mpg the low HP and the terrible reliability. Good luck!

U are brilliant my friend
Welcome to the club amigo! *Please let this new engine live long and prosper*
Welcome to the club! Enjoy ur experience w/ it. How low compression is it, really? Because if it still starts hot, u got plenty of miles left in the engine. Mine is starting to die, front rotor is somewhere in the high 40's or low 50's, and rear is somewhere in the high 70's and low 80's PSI. I can still drive it because the rear rotor is carrying most of the work. Hot starts are becoming an issue though. I have the 2kW starter (which I recommend, btw). ALSO, if the engine failed after about 30k miles after rebuild... I would STRONGLY question the dudes that rebuilt it. A good rebuild should last you well into the 100k mile mark, and I know that for a fact. Local rotary shop here makes awesome engines. Since it has a decat, I would definitely premix as well.

I had two RX3s in the late 70s, the most exciting car at that time. I rebuilt the engine on the first one after coolant flowed from the spark plug holes and it worked well, nobody was more surprised than me as it was unknown magical territory, I then wrote the car off in a none fault accident but bought another with a duff engine so put the rebuilt engine in that. It lasted about 2 years before it was drinking coolant again and became a pain so it had to go, I remember it also used to eat spark plugs. Love the rotary, also had two Suzuki RE5 rotary engine motorcycles with no problems.

I think this car should come with 2 engines so you can slap in a working one whenever the other fails (like once every 6 months)
The power of a V-6 with the gas mileage of a V-8, what's not to love? I owned several of the earliest models and learned firsthand about the importance of apex seals.
Bro you got to check the clutch pedal itself they often go out and start playing so you can't really depress clutch all the way that's like an easy fix for the clutch clutch might be still good) cheers and best of luck with that)
I've owned one for the past 3 years, 2005 identical model and colour as video. Purchased for £1,300 with 27,000 miles on the clock. It now has 54,000 I've replaced everything for new orginal OEM. It's my first car and its basically been a hobby keeping it in top condition. Looking forwards to this series! Infact I got a Mazda dealership recall last year for the Fuel Tank, and one this morning for the Passenger Airbag!
Replaced: Battery, Coils, Leads, Sparkplugs, Heater Matrix, Window Motor. Airbag Module, Brakes/Discs, Cat Exhaust for MOT Catback when out, Rear light seals, 3 Sensors, Starter Motor, Oil, Air, Pollen Filters, gearbox oil and engine oil frequently, Coolant. An Something next week I expect! 😂
300miles on one tank isn't happening, I've done Bristol to Ipswich a few times. I must stop both ways on a full tank almost there and then when almost at home 218miles each way. So that'll be interesting! Averaging 19-21 mpg at best. A Porsche Cayman S gets 25mpg. Still I wouldn't ever sell the RX8
Best tip: Engine Deflood procedure, hold the accelerator down and keep cranking. Once you hear it backfire slowly lift off. Naturally you'd think holding an accelerator down would flood more but Mazda designed this as the actual deflood procedure 😂 I pulled the fuel pump lead out from under the rear seat to start with, also people pull out fuses. All Totally unnecessary!
So, I wanted to get a rx8 as my next car, I think ill wait a bit more :/ thats wayyyy too many repairs for me
@@markopolic9964 it's only ever failed once that was caused by a misfiring Coil and a blocked Catalytic converter, oh and the heater matrix was leaking caused an airbag ECU short giving airbag fault light, everything else is just maintenance. I know this car so well now that it's just become Easy to know exactly what's going on! admittedly I've spent more than what I paid for the car. Hey, quick question since you have more experience with an 8. Any idea what would cause a massive power surge (increase) at 7k rpm or there abouts? Sort of feels like a turbo kicked in. Car feels a bit sluggish until 7k. Car has decat and everything else is stock, engine replaced within 10k miles (5k before I bought the car)

@@mihai733
I would suspect the SSV not working correctly. It has 3 positions controlling the intake air flow.
You should feel a first power increase at around 3200 rpm, and another one over 5500 rpm. Looks like it's either delayed by a bad SSV or there is a vacuum leak.
@@mihai733 Crazy_Borg's got it right - sounds like an SSV issue if anything.

These are great drivers’ cars. Maybe 10 yrs ago a friend I used to car-share with bought one, it was a step-up from his Prelude. So thirsty but the sound was epic. A bit nuts and stupid that you could flood it just by moving it around your drive-way though. He ended-up writing it off going sideways around a junction, crashing into the car park of a Ford dealership. Had 2 tins of paint in the boot, which went everywhere. Bought an S2000 after that lol.

A lot of people change the engine into a Saab B204 or B234 engine from the 900/93 models because they work brilliantly with the mazda transmission, but won't blow up
Man the body looks rough 😂 Look forward to seeing the progress though and how it gets on at Rotary Revs.
My first job after leaving school was an an apprentice Mazda technician, from the first say I walked through the door I was working on theres. The most popular fault with this car was restarting engines that people had flooded (which was more common than engine rebuilds and low engine oil issues). That being said they sound insane...the PZ model sounds as close to a bike as you can get from a car. The feeling you get when you floor it is like no other. Instead of being thrown back into your seat you are gradually pressed back. And if things do go wrong (which apart from engine rebuilds) and constant oil refills, it's an easy car to work on. Anyway enjoy your RX8 you will have a lot of fun!
What was the cause of people flooding a rotary?
@@user-ks5ff A design floor, too much fuel entering the chamber. Mazda released multiple ECU updates which was supposed to fix the flood yet made no difference. The only way to stop the engine from flooding was to hold the throttle at 4000 rpm or above and turn the ignition of whilst it's held there. That being said flooded engines that where not under warranty where a cash cow to Mazda.
Thanks, interesting.
@@thevirgintraveller not true they fixed the issue with 09 models and up. I've had my 2011 R3 for 5 years and never had a problem with flooding
@@williammora88 I have a 09. No floods. But, I never let it shut down when still cool. That was a common cause of flooding. Once up to full temp it almost never happened. Unless the engine had other issues.
