Original engine and trans, someone put a nice set of black Audi 17 inch wheels on it. When I bought it the check engine light was on, and i talked the guy down nearly $600 from his asking price. Kelly Blue Book says that my car is worth exactly nothing basically, so I overpaid for it. Turns out the check engine light was a vacuum leak. It burns just a tiny amount of oil, maybe a quart every month or so. And I drive a lot actually. Round trip to work for me is almost 150 miles. Runs great, shifts great, clutch feels awesome. Feels like it could easily do another quarter of a million. Love it.

1.9 pd engine, one of the best vw group engines ever made
Finally, I legit thought they were going to completely ignore that. I've been waiting for an explanation for ages

recently switched the top and lower engine mounts to polyrethane bushings.
and will soon do the subframe to polyrethane aswell.
So when's the Ellie Goulding X Car Throttle episode gonna be out? Since she was first on scene to Jack's accident!
Already out

The new series could be the High Mileage King! I would love to see what you guys do with it
Back when VW made really good cars. My nan has a passat from the same year, 1.9 tdi 250000 km. Works perfectly fine
The engines are great but the clutch is the bad thing in passats and a4's, golf's clutch is way more durable even in bad condition
Not only the clutch, front suspension can make problems too.
Toate 1.9tdi din generatia aia de vreo 15 ani incoace au sub 300.000km =))
I bought a tired 02 gttdi 130 golf two years ago. Tidied it up and drove it for a year, sold it 8 months ago when it was very tidy. 220000 on the clock. I bought it back two months ago (wrecked). Broken back axle collapsed front suspension and absolutely filthy. Two weeks solid work and a second hand axle and TT front end and it's back in good shape again. 230000 on it now.

As soon as he said half a mil miles I knew it was 1.9tdi - my Octavia drives like new at 172k miles with 105bhp. Such a great engine
Bet VWs modern engines don’t last that long
@@goodfodder my mk6 jetta had 100k miles and was still kicking strong before it got totaled.
Cars that have that kind of miles in the United States are on their third (List of parts like transmission engine) But most do not get there because their wrecked or vandalized by that point

Honestly a true testament to the 1.9 tdi engine
I had one in a 2001 seat leon. Nearly 300000 miles later, the body was shot, but that engine was perfect
@@barryjames3747 yeah my mum had a golf gt tdi. Locks were fucked no radio no thermostat. Did about 250000 before it was sold on
The car falls apart around the engine but the engine is not going to fail. Its not the only 1.9 TDI to hit 500,000 miles.
@@gravemind6536 a friend of mine has an Ibiza 6L with the 1.9 TDI PD and 800.000 km (500.000 miles) on the clock. Car is falling apart, but the engine still goes strong. I personally own a Fabia with the very same engine and 187.000 km. Great piece of german engineering the 1.9 tdi is
Somehow I’ve only just found your channel and as a lifelong Top Gear fan I cannot stop binging your videos! Fantastic entertainment
This car is a classic, and everything is original: the paint, the oil, the tyres!
Please keep it even after you repaired the GTi . I mean you just made me start looking for B 6th A4s and wanting one badly.
That’s a decent car for 541,000 MILE AUDI!
up until last month I was driving a 2003 Seat Toledo with 654,000 km. I wanted to get to 666,666 so bad but had to swap it
New high milage hero potential?
YES!
I'd love to see it getting restored to original+ just like miles was!
Just gone from watching Mat Watson review the Rolls Royce Phantom to this according to my TH-cam suggestions!! LOL!!!
The exact same here😂
Same 😂
Same 🤣🤣
Answer to the question "do you have a high mileage hero?"
Yes! I own a Suzuki Swift diesel that has done 150,000 kms. I know its not too much compared these high mileage heroes, not even a quarter of it! But bear in mind that it's India.. For our road conditions I have had to change all of its suspension already and the steering assembly😞
My dad had a Suzuki Swift 1.5 GLX manual (2009 model year) and drove it for 160000km before selling it (he just wanted a new car and there was nothing wrong with the swift). That car never broke down in 8 years of ownership which is just amazing. Also bear in mind we live in South Africa where there are potholes the size of a small car (they are HUGE).
@@zoeobrien7272 It is a lovely car, isn't it?

ive been seeing that jazz whenever i look for a cheap car, been on there for months
The fact the lorry driver said he "couldnt see him" is outrageous, there is a front blindspot mirror on most trucks to see Directly infront of them which he seemed to have. He must of had just too much fun pushing Jack along.
The lorry driver was too busy changing gears and murdering prostitutes.
Lorry drivers have more blind spots than visible spots.
Please, give us high mileage hero series II!

I've got a 2002 VW Passat GLX Estate. Its got the 2.8 30V V6 a 5spd manual gearbox, and i use it every day. I've had it a little over a year and a couple weeks ago it rolled over 250,000. Love it.
“I’ve had enough of going sideways” I wondered why I laughed way harder than the other two, then I realized he’s probably been saying that nonstop. The joke rather looses its luster after the 80th or 90th time, aye?

I've got 207,000 miles on my E46 320D. Regular and frequent oil and filter changes is all you really need to keep old diesels going. Nothing wrong with a high mileage hero 👌
My lovely Volvo has 489k km. Which, for old Volvos, is basically a little over delivery miles. The only thing is, that the engine, which the previous owner (my father) blew up has been replaced with one that has 220k km. And I can’t complain at all. It feels pretty brand new with one or two minor age-related issues.
This absolutely made my day, i've also got an A4 B6, 1.9 tdi, amazing how good service and condition can do to a car. I really hope you're doing a series about this car.
I love these challenges. I would love to see lengthier ones. Including when you travel around and abroad. You should spent some money on the Audi, get the Golf fixed up and get them to compete.

I’ve got a Mercedes-Benz w212 with the famous OM651. Literally one of the best cars ever made. And it’s got 976.000 kilometers on the clock. Surpassing the million soon🇩🇪❤️
I’ve owned two Honda’s and I’m on my third and the last two had 470 000 miles and 510 000 miles and I can’t wait to put that many on my new Honda Pilot!
Honda's are great cars. I had a 2001 Accord with over 200.000Miles on LPG. All this, with everyone shouting at me, telling me that Honda engines cannot deal with LPG.. I guess they are wrong. In the end i had to sell the car when i got a new job and didn't need the car anymore. Here in the Netherlands owning a car is not cheap, especially if it's not a petrol car. So when you come to the point you don't have to drive that many miles anymore, you want to get rid of that specific car and buy back something on petrol. Currently drive a 2003 Focus that had cost me only 350 euro. Somethings did need doing, but i have now spent a total of 600 euro (including the purchase) and 1,5 year on it still drives pretty good.
DestructionNL good for you! I bought a Toyota 4Runner once and only had it for 2 years because it was so bad on gas and the transmission oddly enough was acting up so I switched back to Honda’s. They are the best cars without a doubt that you can buy😂
