i watched a documentary on the recording of this, it was recorded in the Netherlands. The entire group had been there for 3 or 4 days minus their drummer, who was having passport issues getting there. They got in touch with Larnell, and he immediately started his way there from the US. The guys had been jamming in those 3 to 4 days, and all of them concluded that this wasn't coming together. They were about to call it all off when Larnell arrived, and this happened. Larnell learned/wrote his drum parts on the flight over.
Snarky Puppy is such a brilliant collective. This sound is jazz fusion taken to some different levels. Usually in jazz fusion,, jazz is the backbone. But Snarky likes to superimpose jazz on top of World music, funk, rock, and orchestral sounds just as much as adding those to a jazzy backing. They love to play with layers (time and sound) and switch up right when you get comfortable with a musical theme. This entire project is dope, but racks that shine on this one for me include "Lingus", " What About Me?", and "Outlier".
best snarky puppy reaction I've seen, you let the music speak for itself but we can see how into the groove you are the whole time. this whole set (we like it here) is amazing.
JJ, if you liked Snarky Puppy, you would definitely like Lettuce, and their associated band Soulive. Both bands have many excellent songs; for Lettuce, I would recommend “Breakout”; and for Soulive, I would recommend their cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Jesus Children”.

Its called A Studio Session. And Sean on the keyboard wasn't playing Dr. Dre bass, he was the one who created it.
This whole album (actually all of their albums) is/are just as good. You have to react to the track Lingus from this album, at least. Peace!
