Yes, there is comparison. And it is not fair. PPOP mostly are ragtag pop groups w/ the least capital. Short of broke. KPOP is a giant. It is like pitting KPOP the goliath to PPOP the broke David. No matter how good the PPOP talents are, it is no match to KPOP. Auto-tune and great music production will decimate PPOP. Add more the MISPLACED support of many Filipinos to KPOP, KPOP will easily "TKO" PPOP. Filipinos are born w/ self-destruct buttons. Hence, proceed to the next topic.

Kudos on your premiere… PPOP and Kpop are NOT 2 genres…they are the same genre POP.
But i disagree that PPOP is influenced by kpop and jpop alone….SB19 alone has more western influences in their latest songs, not just kpop and jpop…i their earlier songs yes coz obviously they’re under a Korean management, but now that they’re self managed, they have the creative freedom. For years now OPM is heavily influenced by western music. AND we also have synchronised dancing.
I’m not sure what your saying but to me it feels like your comparison is making ppop a substandard version of kpop as you kept on reiterating that we incorporated this and that from kpop/jpop when in reality PPOP HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN OUR MUSIC since the 70’s or maybe even earlier..It’s just that the music industry DOES NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THEM AND PUT MUCH NEEDED SUPPORT TO THEM coz maybe they look down on them and thought nothing will come out of it, won’t last at all.
Well, SB19 and other ppop groups put them on their places and showed them all that PPOP can rise even if they doubted them #PPOPRISE.

@@srebaayao9616 PPop is considered unique from other pop groups especially in Asia since mostly Ppop songs are written in Filipino and English language which most Filipinos can relate to. Comparing PPop to Kpop or Jpop is considered not fair and useless. Can't wait for PPop for world domination and nothing can stop it 🔥🔥🔥

PPop and OPM are more Westernized than Kpop coz Filipinos love foreign music mostly english songs and bands eversince(even before kpop exists).. for me kpop has their own genre that has not evolved through the years, everyone in korea sounded the same and very few is fluent in english except those not full korean..so many koreans live in the Philippines to study english or pursue their career coz it's not much pressurred and stressed. Filipinos have raw and pure talent, soulful performers even if they don't train for years-not manufactured! It's just that Filipinos are used to being multilingual so easy to adopt to any language that's why so many Filipino kpop fans coz they can sing and speak korean fluently😊💙🇵🇭OPM PPOP rise!! So many Filipino blooded foreign artists such as Bruno Mars, Vanessa Hufgens, Olivia Rodrigo, Nicole Scherzinger, Hailee Steinfeld, Bella Poarch, bretman rock etc. I don't hear korean blood in the western field though😅

Both are products of talent. But in Kpop, it's more of a collective talent showcase including talents from the creatives behind the actual artists while in Ppop, the actual artists are usually involved in the creative side of each performances... therefore less manufactured talents

As an international viewer I'm not sure I agree with your analisis. Though many Filipinos embrace KPop and have even accused PPop groups of imitating KPop I see more Western influence in PPop. The fact that most songs are sung in both the Filipino Language and English is much more apealing to a Western audience. The Filipino Language is also more poetic in my opinion as well. I know that there were groups that struggled in Korea to make a name but the strict training and influence from Korean management companies make KPop seem more manufactured to me. Just my opinion of course but I am much more attracted to PPop because of the mix of English and Filipino languages. It seems more authentic.

Not to mention, English will always be a universal language. Although, Ppop has a lot of western influences, it still has that distinct "heart" of OPM. But definitely, Ppop plus is that we can sing and create songs in English. And speak it very well too, hence it's a plus during interviews.

I want to say that you're wrong, the PPop genre is more influenced by western Europe and American genres, not KPop. Only some styles are the same because PPop groups have incorporated dance into their performances, not like the western counterparts whose movements were limited, I mean, no hard dance at all. So it's here that SB19, the PPop Kings, is much different from other groups, western or asian - they sing, dance, rap, compose songs of different genres (ballad, upbeat, R&B, hip-hop), choreograph their own dance moves, create/produce their own music videos. And when they perform live, they sing their songs as if those were recorded, no autotunes. If at all, their comparison to KPop counterparts can only be seen in their fashion style, maybe because they were trained first by a Korean Company, but their sound is definitely not KPop sound, they're more of a western and latin/Spanish sound, especially when their song is in English because our second language is English. Remember, Philippines has been colonized by Spain, then America. When it comes to dance moves, again, PPop dance moves are not copied from KPop because dance genres, like songs, have also evolved, those have come from various kinds of dances that made popular by the western dancers, esp. the hip-hop. Hip-hop is not from Asia, definitely not from Korea.

Hi, Anything under the Earth! I just want to say some facts & opinions about "K-POP & P-POP". For me, there is no comparisons or differences between these two. Because the original word "POP" is already a Genre & one of the Genres in the Whole Music Industry just like these different Genres, such as Hiphop, R&B, Rock, Ballad, Rap, etc. Which originates in America & UK. Some says that J-Pop influences K-POP, K-Pop influences P-Pop but J-Pop also influences P-Pop! J-Pop in Japan, K-Pop in South Korea, & P-Pop in the Philippines, are all "POP" Music Genre of all the Different Countries. We were All Very Much Influenced by the Americans & UK since the Early Age of Music. The Music Genres Evolves. As the Years Passby, Generations after Generations, All Music Genres Improves, Modernized & Advancing. The same as "Dancing". So, I think, J-Pop, K-Pop, P-Pop & other Pop Countries differentiate in Styles, Languages & Performances. SLMT(Thank You) po!😊

There were a lot of them such as Neocolours, Side A, Introvoys, the Teeth, Yano, True Faith, Passage, Eraserheads, Parokya ni Edgar, Freestyle, Callalily, Rivermaya, The Dawn, and so on.

You must be kidding me? I am a 70's person and a musician as well. Ppop existed even in the 60's. The Phils. was the 1st in Asia venturing in pop music where the rest of ASEAN depended on their classical music. Kpop started to emerged only in the 80's, 2nd from Jpop where at that time Japanese pop was viraling worlwide and The Pink Lady was one of them. ppop was heavily influenced by westerners i.e. Backstreet boys, NSYNC, Westlife among other boybands. The styles of Ppop music is far from being the same as of Kpop if you really are a music elite. There's no way these two country can be compared except for the fact that these generation's dancing prowess is in competition nevertheless Kpop and Ppop are not the same. It is just irritating to hear or read that we copied and being compared to korean pop when they both are in a very different world of music and styles.

KPOP is more visual- and production-centric; PPOP is more music-centric. There's a whole docu on KPOP - it tells you everything you need to know. In summary, its focal point is outstanding visuals and productions (promotions, artists' visuals, translating that production on concert/TV settings, synchronised dancing, using session musicians for instrumentation, fan culture, merch production, etc.). Basically, the music should be translated visually - "music that can be seen".
PPOP, on the other hand, thrive on music composition (lyrics, melodies, music production), storytelling, translating those stories into MV's, live singing, and live performances, relational artist-fan interactions, etc. Genres and languages are varied (English and Filipino are heavily used as well as other local languages and dialects). The focus is the music and the sonical experience - how music resonates to its listeners.

Contrary to your opinion, P-Pop is more influenced by western music rather than K-Pop since western music has been popular in the Philippines since the 1920s. Also live singing is the standard in the Philippines. If any Phil artist can't sing live they do not become popular. This is applicable to all sorts of music genres that are performed here.

A better term is boost not influenced by K pop and J pop. If you know anything about Philippine music and it’s influences it will be the more on the western and Latin music. Also if you know Filipino You should also know that filipinos are more into love songs hence the reason why it took awhile for Filipinos to accept the idea of a boy/girl band singing and dancing unless its one of those girl/boy group in early 2000 who sings Filipino novelty songs. If you go to history of musical influences of Filipinos in the 50’s it was the rock and roll most specially Elvis , 60’ it was the European sound like the beatles, 70’ it went back to the the US which was the disco era, in the 80’ it’s the European psychedelic punk, 90’s it’s the US heavy metal sound like guns and roses , pop like Nsync which it evolved to RNB and rap which continued on to 00’ the common denominator of all of this is the US and how Filipinos follow what is the in thing of the west such as billboard, MTV etc. So to say that P POP is influenced by J POP AND K POP is completely wrong. K pop boost the Filipinos interest in incorporating choreography in their forte but musically the style is still western sound with a dash of Filipino flavor as you can see in the music they produce with lyrics both in Filipino language and English. I know you mentioned positivity in the last part of your video however to promote positivity you must also be more knowledgeable of the topic you are discussing.

I totally disagree that ppop is influenced from K-pop and J-pop. Philippines OPM is more influenced from western music since the 1970s coz of the strong Western culture imbedded into Philippines Pop culture. KPop is actually influenced from Jpop. KPop was established by the South Korean government coz of the country’s need to boost their economy by financing it until it became corporate owned. They saw how Jpop was doing extremely well for the country, hence, the idea of monetizing the culture for their own country. PPop strongly held the OPM culture of lyricism and deep concept of the song while involving synchronized choreography. I think there should be a more research of the origin, the cultural elements of the respective music industry and the economy behind it. I applaud the effort but there is more to a simple evaluation behind the new Asian pop culture. KPop is simply more popular because of the active investments made to their talents while among PPop is more of being picked up by a company because they have astounding singing abilities and raw talents of dancing and writing. There are real talented Korean artists like G-dragon but in most part some of them are manufactured, dance very well and visually appealing.

I'd like to believe that Filipino Popular music has been around long before K pop. OPMs of the 70s and 80s can be considered Ppop. Bands are staples in the Filipino Music Industry since time immemorial. It's just that the birth of MTV made music evolve to a lot of visual styles that garnered popularity around the world.

I don't hear much korean in the western field😅

PPop genre for me is a very Vocally Heavy and Demanding genre with witty or emotional meaningful lyrics.
PPop groups need to do better live and must have strong vocals because Filipinos expect Filipino singers to have very strong vocals and we must hear them live. We are more unforgiving to non-Filipino singers or even Filipino Actress/Actors. PPop groups need to do multiple genre, esp they have to be able to do hiphop and ballad, because Filipinos love those two genres. Filipinos love rock music also, but we have a lot of groups for that, who are not considered PPop. Thus, you can hear pop groups incorporating a hint of rock or with rock voices.

Sorry to correct you. Ppop is derieved from American Pop, Kpop, and OPM or Original Pilipino Music. That is why all groups use English and Filipino language and other Filipino dialects in their songs. Before there is Kpop, Filipinos are very much into American or Western music which up until now we still do together with Ppop and Kpop.
You can see it with the number of random Filipinos singing covers of songs of American or Western artists.

I think the best that SB19 could do so that the whole world will know that long before K-pop there was already OPM where PPOP really originates, is to have a portion or an act on their concerts which they will sing popular OPM songs most probably those which already made it internationally like Anak and popular songs of Hotdog, APO, Rico Puno, Martin, Gary, Regine, Ogie, Sarah, Francis M, Gloc 9, E-heads, Parokya, Billy Crawford, KZ, Yeng and so many more, they could make a medley and new arrangements, so that the whole world will finally realized that the real roots and influence of PPOP is OPM and not Kpop..🙄💙

They can also rap..They make their own style of dancing and clothes are amazing.Oh before i forgot their music are Pilipino and English…One of the member in SB19 are CEO of his fashion clothes …So I would say K-pop and Ppop there are no comparison espeacially when it comes to SB19.

Though SB19 has a little bit of touch of Kpop it is because, the boys are managed by a Korean company, however, with that being said, P-pop promoting what is pinoy music, culture and etc.

I find this comparison as nonsense. Is Kpop better than Ppop? It depends on the listener. Its worth mentioning that Ppop trace its roots from OPM, which has its origins from the Kundiman ballads in the colonial time period. These are serenade songs performed by an individual, or a group of singer(s) + musician(s) -- band. Eventually this became a lucrative profession and OPM boy bands came out in the 60s. Other bands offering the american genre also came about much earlier. Thus Ppop has a long beautiful history which is different from Kpop.
