Re the foam in Selle SMP softening: I have 3 Selle SMP Dynamic saddles: one on my trainer (nearly brand new), one on my winter bike (used 3-4 months for several years, ice/snow/sand limits use), one on my summer bike (intensive use spring/summer/fall for 4-5 years). Poking them with my thumb doesn't detect much difference, foam on trainer one may be slightly more firm.
Called the US importer, who said that the padding used in the Dynamics and other previous designs is memory foam (foamed elastomer). He said it lasts for ca 15K miles, eventually turning to fluff.
Padding in the new EVO line is EVA (Ethylene/Vinyl Acetate) foam, which I think is the padding used on weight room floors, etc. I got an EVO saddle and the padding on it feels firmer than the padding on my newest Dynamic. It's supposed to be very durable so may not soften with use like the memory foam.

Should be pointed out the time frames aren't given in terms of hour on the bike.
6-12 months if you ride the bibs 3 or 4 times a week several hours at a time, is semi understandable... for the once a week wearer, I can't imagine the 6-12 months applies.
That said, I am surprised/horrified by how many people are 'proudly' wearing 5+yr old bibs at the weekend club runs 😅

There's even cases where you could almost see skin at the back. But almost everyone in the club ride is too embarrassed to point it out unless they close with the rider. I've seen some ladies with such in particular lol, we didn't point it out mid ride and only pointed it out via DM online afterwards to prevent her getting embarrassed mid ride.

Amazing video as always guys, thanks. This is the reason why Iam always buying mid-range pedals, bibs and shoes not high end once and therefore I can replace them more often. That way IMHO works better than buy high-end and use them for decade beacuse they costed you so much in front.

I had my mid-foot-cycling adapters wear out and didn't make the connection for months, but my foot was basically rolling off to the outside with the plastic fatigue. Time to start replacing them at the same time as my G8 insoles.

I bought some sworks 6 shoes used, got 3 years out of them myself and finally now I need to replace them due to it basically falling apart in several places. I just checked the heel cup and it’s actually molded plastic around the heel, so that explains why they’ve lasted so long!

Maybe it's just me, but bibs I bought 25 years ago, the padding was thinner, and fabric thicker with more compression on my legs. I can't seem to find that quality in the last 15 yrs. I ride one form or another 5 days a week and try and have many bibs to chose from.

I'm glad you brought up the SMP saddles wearing out, I absolutely love my SMP Stratos saddles but always keep a spare when the padding gets soft. It could be my imagination, but it seems to me the most recent one I've purchased has a denser padding. Just curious if you noticed the same thing?

Could I possibly get Neil's input on a question I can't seem to find much info on? I wonder if wearing cycling shoes can cause a rider's foot arch to become 'lazy' or weaker?
When I used to ride flat pedals I would always find myself tensing my foot to grip the pedals. I initially thought this must be a negative thing, tensing using excess energy, but then I read about foot arch tension / strength being important for power, stability and joint alignment. I have fairly flat arches and feel like when I used flat pedals my gripping was actually my body engaging my arch to keep my leg mechanics stable and aligned.
Now that I use cycling shoes I have begun to have hip / knee issues. I have valgus knee, with my knee leaning in towards the top tube. I'm trying to understand if this is to do with reduced hip mobility, or ankle dorsiflexion, but could this be a result of weak arches, as I don't feel I engage them as much now my foot is attached to the pedal.
I understand Neil's probably very busy and can't reply to everyone's queries. Just thought he might be interested to share some thought on this issue.
Thanks for the continued great content.

Neill's thoughts on Shimano MTB/gravel pedals? Brand new XTR/GRX pedals and cleats always have a little play/rock in them. Specifically on long gravel rides where the riding is a more stagnant position akin to road and less dynamic like MTB.

I need a bit of help. I want to make a series of videos about isolating the glutes and quads within the pedal stroke, teaching riders how to stop wasting energy by pushing in all the wrong directions. The problem is that I don’t have an Australian accent, and everybody knows you need an Australian accent to make cycling videos. So I’m thinking of a window in the corner of the screen where I have a translator translating into Australian. They would have to speak fluent bike fit. Any interest?

Amazing video! Thank you very much Neill! Regarding the worn out pedals/cleats I do have a follow-up question. With my lake MTB shoes I use shoe shields between the cleats and the shoes as required by Lake. Lake requires to do so with spring binder type pedals, including Time pedals that I use. Nevertheless, it feels to me that there is much more play between the shoes and the pedal system when using those thin metal plates between shoes and cleats. Does Neill or anybody else has observed similar issues and maybe found a solution - other than switching to shimano SPD pedals? Thank you very much

Chamois? No thanks. Moved back to gravel and mtb after 20+ years riding recumbent on the road. Obviously (or not?) not using a padded short on the recumbent, don't need it. Managed to find a saddle for the upright bikes that works for me without needing a chamois. (Infinity Saddle) Triathlon shorts or general compression shorts work great. Day long rides, no problem.
