The Soriana Sofa designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa (produced by Cassina)

Dear Design Lovers,
Today we will take a look on a true ICON among DESIGN OBJECTS, the model Soriana, designed in 1969 by the Italian architects Afra and Tobia Scarpa, a production 100% Made in Italy by the famous company CASSINA.
The idea of creating this innovative design came to its authors because of innovative materials available on the market, precisely the new polyorethane foaming techniques, allowing to create shapes that will hold, with no need for internal supports. The only element to “hold it up”, and at the same time sign distinctively the design with uniqueness, was the metal structure that is embracing the structure from upside up.
Today, the internal padding is made of BioFoam® microspheres of plant origin, a diligent choice made by Cassina LAB Project to promote wellbeing and sustainable design. Moreover, the sitting is proposed, besides the classical blown polyester fiber, in a version that is using 100% recycled blown fiber produced from PET recovered from Plastic Bank®.
The base is having upholstered buttons and plastic fasteners, small feet and wheels in plastic and steel. Clamps are made in steel and powder-coated steel proposed in a few colors ), while the upholstery is made in a selection of fabrics and leathers from the Cassina Collection.
