If Karate Combat started early Wonderboy would be a champ. There are alot of Karatekas in MMA would be champions in this promotion like Bas scary guy, GSP intresting, & Machida. I hope to see Kyoji Horiguchi in Karate Combat in the future.
I always love me some wonderboy lessons! The worry I have with this is getting low-kicked the moment I step in with all my weight on my front leg but I guess you could work with feints or front-leg kicks beforehand to get him thinking of of other things as well as good timing of course.

You know what a good comparison this is too? Infantrymen in CQB training are thought "Slicing the Pie" with their rifle and field of vision through a window or something. In this case the punches are his shots and the window is felling your opponent. Absolutely brilliant !
Man, i like Stephen so much he is one of the only guys i root for even when he is against guys from my country(Brazil) and his technic is gold, i use It myself and It works wonders.
Thank you for the tip. Tried it in point sparring practice but kept getting tagged with side kick. I then tried it at a greater distance to get the person to kick them sidestepped and attack.
Youre beautiful wonderboy! Ole Tony Ferguson landed this on Barboza HARD but he used a spin rear elbow to attack around the guard, rather than pivoting out for a cross. Barboza bit the first feint bait and shelled up max guard, eyes closed The placement of your lead foot when pivoting out for more strikes is beauty. You can see slight repositions, not sure if concious but definitely there The dark outfit guy isnt as aware of his lead foot when repositioning!
1:54 and he sometimes starts on the 2nd step when he has snuck close enough not to need the 1st step to jab, really throws people off with how soon the cross comes
I always thought that Steven, Mcgregor, Anderson Silva, GSP and John Jones were Masters at controlling the gap! One of my dream matches would be Steven vs Mcgregor!!!😆
Nice. There's another scenario though. If he "runs away" he can transition that into a kick such as a side kick or back kick and you might run right into it following him. Just an example. He might be drawing you in.

yes quite hard, it requires good legs when doing it (another thing it will put extra stress on the knees and increase pain if you already have). I know this because I have tried it in spars and no success yet. I am trying to go for more runs now (and sprints) to see if I can improve a bit.

Upstate Karate (Thompson's family dojo and gym) should have a fighter in Karate Combat
Yup would be great
Wouldn't be surprised if one of the Spence brothers get in the Pit one day
Sweet T where you at

Yes to this
Wonder boy passing this knowledge is a goldmine. Always grateful for the man and his time.
Simple but effective. Gotta love it
Great advice, love it! Will apply this to my sparring sessions this week, thank you!
Giving out great advice for free, gotta love it!

Never hurts to start a combo with a high switch kick but jabbing your way in is generally pretty safe at most levels
@@luisdawnfinder3188 I can think of plenty of situations where you wouldn't want to open with any high kick

Steven 'Wonderboy' Thompson should compete in Karate Combat.
And clean out the division.

Nice video, I love "masking the opponent's vision" jabs
man, this is really advanced, I never saw such advanced techniques on Stephen's channel :O Awesome tricks
It's the simple moves that will help bring in the combos!
Love how clean the pit looks the best fighting stage of all time! Much better than a ring or octagon.
Stephen is such a good teacher.
Learning from a legend!!
A UFC legend sharing knowledge with a combat karate champion. Priceless
This is the move that dropped masvidal when wonderboy fought him

masterclass...wonderful!
Like the idea ,this is so cool for karate students thanks❤
Wonderboy works the angles sharp and precise!
Wonderboy is a natural as a instructor/analyst.
Great video,,,,many thanks,,,,that's very slick,,,forces the opponent to move head to look,,,opening the face guard..very nice..
He did this to Masvidal in great style. One of the greatest karatekas in UFC!
Thompson must fight in karate combat.
Angles are awsome.
That’s first rate instructions right there. Simple but effective means efficient!
Karate Combat better have wonderboy on as an announcer. That’s just such a clear right thing to do

It's Hilarious that to Wonderboy this is a simple technique! LOL took me 6 tries to pull it off on BoB! LOL
A great warrior, a great fighter and a great knight

I've had people do this but I just step back and switch stance, if they commit to the 2nd straight it's an easy counter.

Thank U great stuff

For some reason this looks better when they wear the gi top. Maybe they should start doing that.
