Seeing the game run on the ally the way it does makes me wish they'd open up the settings for the xbox series consoles. Being forced to play at 30 fps is annoying. Anyway, good video!
Thanks for the comment! It would be good if they unlocked more settings for consoles. I’m guessing they are driving more for a consistent experience. It would be good to see some “pro” model consoles come out that can hit that 4k 60 mark.
That Legion looks amazing! I'm hoping they release in Australia, I likely wont get my hands on one any time soon. I do have an Ayaneo Air 1s on the way, although I ordered that off the Indigogo months ago and it still hasn't been dispatched. I've been looking at the Ayaneo Kun as well but the delays in getting my air 1s aren't really motivating me to even think about buying anything else from their indigogo page.
Awesome! Have you been using Game Pass? How have you found the cross save? I’ve found Game Pass hit and miss on the Ally. I think that’s more a Game Pass issue than an Ally issue though…
@@HandHeldGamingReviews i have been using gamepass, but i did do the upgrade for early access. i have played on my xbox, PC, Ally, and streaming on my samsung TV and the only issue i had was that there was content missing. i just downloaded the add-ons and was good to go. the cross save downloads are slow, but it works
Initially I dismissed the Ally but I'm really thinking of getting one now. Hopefully Steamdeck 2 will have a similar docked mode 30w and an aftermarket or Valve GPU enclosure. At the end if the day they sell more games on Steam if we buy a Steamdeck or Ally. Thanks for the video 😊
Thanks for the comment! I hope the SteamDeck 2 has something similar as well. I still think the SteamDeck is a smoother experience overall, the Ally just packs more punch at higher TDP so I think is a lot better if you are planning to play new release AAA games on the go.
Me too, that would be the perfect combo for me, especially traveling, I play the Ally docked quite a bit and while it doe’s reasonably well at 1080p, I would be nice to push those settings to high-ultra or even medium at 1440p or 4K. Plus, it would be nice to have an nVidia eGPU and take advantage of DLSS.
i play starfield mostly high on the ally with 1080P except putting crowd on medium and shadows on medium shadows somehow always takes lots of your hardware when you lower those down rest on high i get between 28 and 35 fps very playable
I played it on Steam deck while I waited for my SSD in the mail and agree with your assessment. It runs like butt, and its playable... At 20-30 frames. Interesting to see the ROG do better with this game.
Huh. Idk what happened, it might be my heavy undervolt on my deck or the fact that it's on windows 10, but it's running this game quite decently. Absolutely incomparably better than what i'm seeing here. Im using better graphics AND i get better frame rates. It's quite comparable with how your ally is running it (except not in 1080p). I think i'm going to unlock 18w on my deck, too. I mean, it kinda needs it. With the added efficiency of the -40 -40 -40mv undervolt, plus a higher peak power, i'll effectively have the equivalent of a 23w steam deck (but drawing 18w)

Once it’s out of warrantee I’ll give it a go. I also want to keep my videos as stock as possible in terms of “this is what you can expect with only minor tinkering”. That being I’ve run the cryoutilities script but that’s about it. Was your undervolt process the same as shown by Cryobyte33? I’m also interested to see if FSR 3 has any impact.
i own both right now and love them both...but rog ally is clearly gunna win here....steam deck is like a console...rog ally is a computer....nothing wrong with either...but clearly ally is gunna run this game better...its a little bit more powerful and a windows machine....i use both docked / plugged in n stuff

The best thing is, these handhelds are really starting to take off, a few years ago our options were essentially crowd funded concepts that cost 3-4x as much for lower specs. To be honest, the fact that the Steam Deck exists as what I would consider a pretty good base line to compare other hand heads to is amazing.

I can’t wait to see the comparison with the Legion Go. I’m just waiting for it to be released, before I decide between the Ally and Go.

I have been putting in more starfield time on my ally than on my series x. It runs great when plugged in and I am super pumped with my purchase

as if a computer can run a bethesda game better ...of course it can...they always did/ do
my steam deck is super cool ..i recommend both of these devices depending on what yer doing with it
