A quick review of the Miyoo A30. I'm probably pronouncing it wrong, sorry about that. Also, very sorry about the audio quality of the voice track in this video. Might be time to think about a new mic. If I hit 1,000 subs I'll invest in a really decent one, for now though, I might try for another semi-budget podcast mic and see how it goes. I just bought an r36s before watching this vid but i'm still watching it
i got it for $41 aus (on black friday)
I just paid 21 pounds... that's dope!!!
i just got one of these from aliexpress for $22. gonna set it up and give it as a gift...$22 USD no shipping...pizza costs more
hi there, hv you try with usb c bluetooth transmitter and see if bluetooth headphone works?
How do you switch the language to English?
I like these types of quick reviews. Subbed.
not tokens please. Freedom whatever just not tokens lol
Haha ok got you… maybe I’ll just stick to Eagles…
I vote for freedom tokens 🇺🇲🦅
Video after next, you got it! Already recorded the voiceover for my next video so it’s going to have to wait until my RG40XXH review.
this is my first handheld emulator and i love it! im going to upgrade in the future
Thanks for the comment!! They are awesome :)
I have one. It’s not great, but i play it from time to time.
Thanks for the comment! What firmware do you run on it?
I got one for 30 bucks..great ips screen and sega emulation is perfect pixel..super nes is a very little pixilated but not that much...nes is perdect 1:1 match..neo geo is perfect....psp sucked..dreamcast sucked..gba is pixalated..gameboy is perfect...and ps1 was perfect
Thanks for the comment! The R36S is fast becoming my favourite budget handheld.
Rg35xxsp is win for me.
Thanks for the comment! I’ve been loving that one so far as well. I have started to see some people with cracked hinges on Reddit, not sure if that’s a common issue or just bad luck. My next choice is the RG40XXV.
@ I've been using my RG35XXSP for a month now and haven't encountered any issues. I've seen some drop tests on TH-cam, and it seems durable. I think it just bad luck. Sorry for my english i use translator language.
did you try to upgrade the joystick with the hall effect ? I'm curious whether I can replace mine with hall effect or not
I haven’t tried to, no. The stock feels pretty good as it is although can’t speak to how long it will last without stick drift if it’s not Hall effect. Keen to see if anyone else has tried that upgrade.
Where can I get that display stand please
Thanks for the comment and apologies for the delay in response. I got both the display stand and the rotating base from AliExpress.
@@HandHeldGamingReviews please can you share the product link 🔗?. Thanks
I've had issues posting AliExpress links in the past, the product listing names are "Motorised Rotating Mirror Display Stand, 360 Degree Turntable" and "For GB GBC GBA SP 2DS 3DS PSP PSV Game Console Clear Plastic Transparent Stand Shelf Window Counter Display Showcase".
Does it have Pokémon fusion?
How do you scraping just boxart with cartridge image? Sorry for my english
I used screen scraper, Joey’s Retro Handhelds has a good guide on how to use it with MuOS as the custom firmware th-cam.com/video/hf9zdMqKndI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ddVZVKOoY6sd13_B
@@HandHeldGamingReviews thank you so much!
I feel this is the perfect fit for those retro 4:3 consoles. At 1.5x, they perfectly fit the 960x720 screen.
Thanks for the comment, totally agree. I didn’t get into the resolution multipliers I used, but they ranged from 1.25-2x depending on the game.
Thanks for the comment! Totally agree, I didn’t get into the multipliers that I was using but the ranged from 1.25x to 2x depending on the title, 1.5x did look good.
Where on earth did you get it for $245 AU?
It was the pre order price on the Anbernic website. A combination of the early bird price and a good exchange rate on the day. Edit: it’s still about that price now if you exclude shipping which is around $10USD ($15AUD). Pretty sure the early price for the first 20-48 hours had it for around $10USD cheaper.
this and the retroid pocket 5- while being wildly different consoles both have my eye. i like both of em a lot and don't know what form factor to get. the mini would be a nice middle ground I guess but I already have a 353m and don't feel like getting something that would render it obsolete xD
Thanks for the comment! I’ve got an RP5 on pre order, I’ll be comparing the two in my review of the RP5 for sure.
@@HandHeldGamingReviews thank u :)
I have this console RG406v. And all ps2 games works really good💪
Thanks for the comment, good to know!
Subbed
Thanks so much!
@@HandHeldGamingReviewsI think you said your goal is 1000 , who doesn’t wanna support someone reach their goal 🤓
Really appreciate it! I’ll be absolutely stoked if I can get there. This is very much just a hobby for me. I might even be comfortable calling myself a content creator if I hit 1000 subs :).
@@HandHeldGamingReviews haha nice man and you’ll hit it for sure
Miyoo A30 Plus with 3.5" screen, sega-style d-pad and large stereo speakers instead of left stick please
Thanks for the comment! There's just about a new device coming out every week so you never know!!
You trust an OS from a website you can't trust? Doesn't make a lot of sense.
Worked fine for me, just saying to use at your own risk… there will be heaps of other resources out there that point to the same GitHub’s, that’s just the site I found using a quick google. Thanks for the comment ;) see you in the next one.
Best review style I've come across. But that might just be because you're speaking my language 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks mate! Appreciate it!
I like more de rg28xx for the feels and screen ❤
Melbournian here, it’s a treat hearing a fellow Australians voice doing this (kinda tired of Russ from RGC voice..)!
Thanks for the comment and good to see some fellow Aussies watching! I hope it helps, especially with the pricing, it’s hard to gauge sometimes with the US getting a lot of these things cheaper than here.
$50, is that AUD? It’s like $25-26 USD + VAT right now. Insane value.
Thanks for the comment! Works out to be around $35USD at the current rate. Also, something I should have mentioned as I think us here in AUS might be the odd ones out, all our prices here are tax inclusive. Not like the US where something says $10 on the sticker then you get to the counter and it’s suddenly $15 with state and federal tax. So when I say I’ve paid $50, that includes tax. Edit: sorry, just re-read your comment, yep it probably does work out to be the same as $26 USD plus tax…
Great video mate
Thanks mate! Cheers for the comment.
?????
Hello, im tempted to buy one of these off their website. Do they come preloaded with the games or do we need to installthem ourselves? I wouldn't know how to do that ahah
Hi! Yes the MicroSD card it comes with has games included and will run straight out of the box. Just remember to access the games through the “RA Games” menu for the best performance.
50 Bones
How many games came with your device?
It was certainly in the 1000s, looking at the Roms folder there are some 16k files, that's not to say there are that many games as some might have multiple files associated with a single rom or there are other random files in there. More than enough games to get you started in any case.
Solid video. Comment for the algorithm. Thanks man!
Thanks man! Cheers for the comment and the feedback!
The light is worse on the translucent models.. Solid coloured cases its not as bad... a tiny drop of blutack works though! Strongly suggest updating to AmberELEC or another firmware than keeping the one its shipped with.. ArkOS has its limitations...
Thanks for the comment! Blutack might be the way to go. I have some translucent stickers designed to put over Xbox controller lights lying around somewhere. I thought something like that, that still lets some of the light through might also do the trick. Mind you, the case itself is translucent so a bit of blutack might look a lot neater than a random sticker. I didn’t mention it in the video but I did try to use ROCKNIX as an alternative firmware solution as well but I think the GitHub I sourced it from had issues (or there was an issue with the download) as it wouldn’t boot. I might give AmberELEC a go, I had only avoided that as the site I was on said it was no longer being supported.
@@HandHeldGamingReviews if you need any links for new CFWs let me know, i have links to nearly all for most of these handhelds (I have a few too 😉)
That would be awesome! Yeah, its become a bit of an addictive hobby to be honest, I started with the RG35XXSP and couldn't resist picking up one after the other, especially given the price.
the build quality is dodgy and luck based. Mine the charging port stopped working within like a week and I had to battle tooth and nail to get a refund
Thanks for the comment and speaking to your experience. Sounds like I got lucky with mine. Did you get it through AliExpress? I suppose that’s the advantage to using sites like Amazon, might be twice the price but you do get more buyer protection.
It wont play every n64 game. Theres charts online that show which games will run smooth. You have to run them with the standalone emulator called rice.
Thanks for the comment and tip! Good to know.
Looks like a lot of fun!
Thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Its real fun
thats a new color and it looks super super nice 👍
Thanks for the comment! Agreed, looks even better in person, camera doesn’t do it justice.
@@HandHeldGamingReviews hey can you drop the link for the yellow one? I'm collecting all the translucent colors
Sure thing, I got it from AliExpress: a.aliexpress.com/_mOF2UZe
Are there any of the classic pokemon games ?
Yes it has some of the GameBoy titles with the included SD card.
can we do 2 controllers?
I haven’t tried personally but if anyone has tested this please leave a comment. If I get back around to testing this personally I’ll update the description.
My first handheld was the ambernic rg353v and for awhile it was all i needed then saw the odin 2 which is currently my main one. Wanted to go for the clamshell sp but im the type of person who hated loud buttons 😂 still keeping an eye out for a quiet clamshell device
Thanks for the comment! That’s probably the only thing about the RG35XXSP that I can see turning some people off. I have seen mods (retro game corps?) where people put a bit of masking tape or something in there to soften the sound. How have you found the Odin 2?
@HandHeldGamingReviews-gq9fr I love it! all the games I play up to ps2 run great I mostly play while at work when it's slow so it's definitely a time waster even if it for a few minutes.
That sounds awesome! Odin is still on my list to get ahold of one of their handhelds, same with Powkiddy. I think I have a problem... Up to PS2 is where I spent most of my childhood/teen years having consoles but never enough money to have more than a handful of games. I think that's why I'm loving this hobby so much. I can finally go back and enjoy a bunch of games I never had the opportunity to when I was (a lot) younger lol.
Wonderful brief review, I recently just ordered mine as well in white, would love for you to test out different OS on it and maybe keeping the system running nintendo emulators only, to see if theres any improvements on the system regarding stutters or fps drops?
Thanks for the comment! I’ve just received the 40XXH, hopefully there will be be some good custom firmware options to try once I’m ready to put that review together and I’ll include some content that covers both in the 40XX series. Was there a game in particular that you’re thinking of?
@@HandHeldGamingReviews No particular games, just thinking if we kept the emulators to a minimum. To see if it will help some games/emulator to run better without all the extras taking up storage or memory? I am interested in seeing some Ports, like Stardew valley, TMNT and maybe the new Marvel vs Capcom arcade collection? One game I can't see a port of is Titan Souls, a game I really like but I don't think theres any port.
I must admit, I haven’t tried postmaster yet. I’ll add that to the list to try out and make some content on.
Absolutely buying one in white on 11.11 Aliexpress sale day
Thanks for the comment! It looks incredible in the white, I’ve been really happy with it.
I have it and it’s worth it
Whats the black handheld device i see it was part of the video?
That’s an Ayaneo Air 1s, the older model with the 7840u chipset. It’s a windows device and packs a fairly decent punch. Not a bad unit but it’s on the more expensive side. I also have had issues with a firmware update stopping the speakers from working in windows. To be fair that update was almost 12 months ago, eventually I’ll go back to try and fix it.
i've recently started watching video about retro hand held and I'm thinking about buying one, this video was super informative thank you.
Thanks for the comment, glad it was helpful. I’ve got quite a few more retro handhelds to keep reviewing. I also bought two of the cheapest I could find on Ali Express (even cheaper than the R36S) so will be reviewing those when they arrive. Thanks for watching.
It just doesnt work
I'm waiting for the Retroid Pocket Mini myself. If that thing has no major issues, then I will probably pick it up. Its a 4:3 specific handheld, perfect for this gen of games with a little upscaling too.
Thanks for the comment! The mini does look good on paper. I ordered an RP5 in the early bird sales so will be putting up a review of that once I get it. I didn’t have the money to go the combo and get both.
@@HandHeldGamingReviews valid, they kinda do the same thing so I think it's unnecessary personally
This looks like a lot of fun! I’ll have to look into getting one. Great review!!
Thanks!
I really enjoy this little device. Everywhere I take it, people grab it out of my hands. I'm still setting it up. I want to see if I can get a two-player game to work. It has Bluetooth and video out. It will be a fun experiment. I've also filled it with some video files and video apps. DLNA seems to work. It's like taking a little cable box around with me. And you can screencast.
Thanks for the comment! I haven’t tried those features yet. I do have a Bluetooth controller on the way. I hadn’t considered screen cast, it would be good to know if the latency is playable. One thing I don’t cover in the video that also works great as well is Syncthing.
@@HandHeldGamingReviews I did play a game with casting. It was better than I thought it would be. I can imagine that small games would work pretty well, as there's not so much data to cast. I don't think that would work for two players. It does work for movies. Most videos come in at 16:9, and are not locked at 1:1. However a USB C to HDMI dongle works. I think it'll still be a 1:1 on the larger screen. I just set up moonlight. It works well, but detailed games wouldn't work well with a small screen. I really wish I could put a SIM card in it to be able to text, and download.
Another great video, I hope you keep posting content on your channel. It’s great to see that you cater for a variety of interests and budgets. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked it.
We call it the NES here in America. I think it was only called Famicom in Japan.
Thanks for the comment! My bad, I realized that after recording it and watching someone else’s video. Figured someone would set me straight in the comments.
