The huge stack of books show how many times he has visited the library and checked out a book in an attempt to talk to her. He finally brought them all back and apparently finally asked her out.
I remember 1985 vividly and I will be 60 next year, but this song never gets old. The summer of 1985 was one of the most fun of my life and this song brings it all back!!!
@@Show_time3 The singer admitted he knew he would have to fool people into thinking it was about a girl - but the whole album "Songs From The Big Chair", is about therapy, as he had a bad childhood. The "Big Chair" is the therapists chair. Its an amazing album.
"Woman in Chains" is a very powerful song. They sing it with Oleta Adams, a singer that Tears for Fears discovered while she was singing in a bar in a Kansas City hotel.
I’m an old fkr. I was in college from 1980 to 1987, the best concert period of all time. My dad owned a couple Pants West stores (Levi Strauss) who sponsored the major bands and we had tickets (including back stage passes) to all the concerts. I didn’t realize how cool that was at the time
I was living in San Diego in 1984/1985 and the radio DJ had talked up the album “Songs from the Big Chair”, saying that it was the most “emotionally satisfying album ever” and I got it on CD and loved every track on it, including this one.
Their song Shout was super popular back in the day. I liked Tears for Fears well enough as a kid in the 80s but I think I’ve grown to appreciate them more as an adult. I really love this song and the video feels somewhat modern to me. Like it could’ve been done by an indie hipster band in the 2010s.
I still remember the ride home my mom gave me from K-Mart when I was 14 to buy this album. It was actually the first cassette I bought with my own money. I STILL listen to this album at 53 years old. And, by the way, their newest album, "The Tipping Point" is amazing!!!
Same age as me lol. My first cassette was Duran Duran's A View To A Kill. It was a split cassette with the Goonies Soundtrack. Those Songs at that time were unsurpassed. It has Soul!!!
Such a great band 'Tears For Fears', I'm loving your reactions to them, Aileen. Please react to their earlier stuff too, "Mad World", "Pale Shelter", "Change", "Ideas As Opiates", "Memories Fade".
Shout, Everybody Wants to Rule The World and Head Over Heels all come from the "Songs From The Big Chair" album so you can see what a huge hit it was for them. I think they released "Mother's Talk" as a single also. Have a great rest of your day Aileen!

This is my favorite Tears For Fears song. Followed by Mad World, which was covered by Gary Jules in 2001, and Post-Modern Jukebox in 2015. I recommend all of three versions of Mad World.
Was that Gary Jules one from 2001 already?!!?! 🤔 Oh man, part of getting older is everything seems to go faster....if you said it was like 8 years ago I would have said yeah thst's right...but over 20 years....jeez.

Always loved this track.. "Song from the Big Chair" is a brilliant album. A funny little anecdote attached to this one.. I always presumed since the 80's that since they were from Southern England this video was shot on location somewhere close to where these lads are from. As it turns out it was shot on campus at the University of Toronto, a mere couple of blocks away from the hotel I stayed in when I visited. If I'd have known I would've swung by and taken the place in a little.. The 80's had some interesting creativity between the feel of the 60's and 70's sent through a prism of new technology and times in which people dug deep into all the feels. Keep your romantic side alive Aileen!
I have Donnie Darko to thank for introducing me to this song, The Killing Moon (Echo & The Bunnymen), Notorious (Duran Duran), Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division) and Never Tear Us Apart (INXS). One of the best soundtracks ever! Of those I'd especially recommend Notorious for someone who appreciates great bass!
Why do I revert back to a shy teenager every time those keyboard notes hit? I've come full circle to be the old man at the desk. Funny how time flies...

Donnie Darko is a great film. Another one from that film that I liked was The Church - Under the milkyway
Yes it's a fantastic segment in that movie
This song just takes me straight back to Donnie Darko. Such a brilliant movie soundtrack.
I know.
Mad World surely has to be next on the list
I grew up with this song and the "yeah" part by the keyboardist has always been my favorite part.
The truth of this song is so painful. He wrote it about his broken relationship with his father. How come so few people know this fact?
@elcorado83 What does a broken relationship with his father has to do with him being head over heels over a woman?
I bet that was totally improvised too, and they just kept it in the final song.
That dude is effortlessly cool
@@mariolopez3728 right. Lol
