    If you missed Norm Nixon's reign with Magic , you missed the next level of NBA climbing to new heights. Showtime was the Lakers during this run . No one had ever seen a squad led by a 6'9" guard . Only iceman Gervin was close , and even he didn't have the handles and abilities to distribute like Magic .

    • @MidRiseLiving
      @MidRiseLiving ปีที่แล้ว

      McGrady and Jalen Rose had his height and were much more athletic, but nowhere near the same facilitating level. Penny Hardaway might have been the closest but he didn’t run the break nor had the charisma / presence that Magic did

    You need a new videographer : someone whom can speak clearly but also knows sports. Stormin Norman , Norm Nixon IS and shall always BE 1 of THE BEST guards/ combo guards / point guards of ALL TIME - it was a BIG DEAL for LA when he got traded. There is always going to be some bitterness there

    • @theinktician
      @theinktician ปีที่แล้ว

      its weird to call him a combo guard. He was a true PG through and through, but Magic was easing into the PG role after the 1st few years, and eventually they had to figure out how to integrate. They moved Magic from the wing and into the PG role as Norm got older. If Nixon was a combo guard, Magic was a combo guard too.

  • @theinktician

    I like his answer, but there was something strange with how he classified Curry.
    It's weird hearing him say someone is more of a "guard" than a point guard, considering his career with Magic. Norm was a PG all his career, and when magic came that didn't change. They put Magic on the wing for years until he entered his prime. He was a slasher that passed until around the 86 season. But you can't convince anyone of this because of his legacy. Nostalgia and Legend re-writes the truth. Like Bird's 40pt Left-hand game. He didn't shoot left handed at all. He still shot right handed while his layups were left handed. If someone slashes and kicks now, no one calls that a facilitator. Who's calling Trae Young, james harden, and Russell Westbrook "true point guards"? It's ironic in a sense.

    • @tommyfu9271
      @tommyfu9271 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bird definitely took some shots left handed. but it also wasn't like he played the entire game lefty either.
      Bird btw is left handed when not playing basketball.

    no it didn't = I was a little kid when EVERYONE knew Norm was jealous of Magic taking his job = I just never knew about the "partying, the women & the drugs" = LA people from the 80's are so used to "lying/pretending/hiding" that they honestly believe the "lies" they invented back then = this series is probably extremely "sobering" for many of them because they've BEEN living a "fantasy" the entire time
