    Magic helped Kareem rediscover the love the game. Before Magic, he was amazing, but he seemed sort of burdened by his role of having to carry the league. After Magic shows up he seemed to enjoy the game again and I think it reminded him of more innocent times back when he was at UCLA. The first step was that role in Airplane where it seemed like he was trying to remake his image somewhat. Magic finished off what Airplane started and helped Kareem to enjoy the game again. He started to look for the high fives and love from Magic. People talk a lot about the level of talent Magic had with the Lakers, but Magic was the best thing that happened to Kareem at that stage of his career.

    • @ULuvBobs_92
      @ULuvBobs_92 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To me the only thing that I have to knock Kareem below Jordan is the fact that he had 1 championship the first half of his career(granted the lakers had to trade most of their team to get him) but he needed some magic (literally and figuratively) to come in and turn that team into a dynasty through his energy, charisma and leadership and so Kareem was not the leader and driving force of his last 3 championships where as Jordan was the leader, best player and driving force of all 6 bulls championships, but Kareem was still unbelievable.

    • @perman07
      @perman07 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ULuvBobs_92While I agree, you could say the same about Jordan and Pippen (except the driving part). No matter how great a player is, they need great team mates to win championships also.

    • @ULuvBobs_92
      @ULuvBobs_92 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@perman07 and I agree that people who use the 6-0 in the finals argument for Jordan are shortsighted because it’s a team game. Any statistical analysis will tell you Wilt Chamberlain was better than Bill Rusell but Bill Russell won because he had 7/8 Hall of Famers on his team. So the fact that it is a team game does get lost in translation when people talk about who are the greatest players of all time.

    This is one of the reasons why Magic is the best TEAMMATE of all time. He made his whole squad better, not by beating them down like Jordan did, but by hyping them up. Not to mention his ability to make anybody on the team score like crazy. If you want a team to shine, not just one player, pick Magic at the one.

    Magic Johnson extended Kareem's career by at least an additional 5 to 6 years. Magic is a key part of the reason that Kareem got that all time points record (for now!) And a part of the reason that Kareem became the oldest Finals MVP in history. They are the greatest NBA duo in history and both are legit GOAT status.
    Magic got three NBA MVP awards while playing along side Kareem, as Kareem was on the down side of his illustrious career. People need to cut it out-talking about Magic can't be considered the goat because he played along side Kareem. Stop it!🤣🙄🤦‍♂️🤣🤣
    We will never see another NBA team with two players considered to be legit GOAT ever again.

      And let me put the nail in the coffin to start my day. Yes, The Shaq and Kobe Lakers did three peat but none of those teams they beat in the finals were ever considered historically great teams, who won NBA championships, with multiple hall of famers on them. The Magic and Kareem led Lakers lost to the Celtics, Pistons and Bulls; three teams who were historically great teams, each with at least three hall of famers on them. In 1990 the Pistons were the first team to repeat in 20 years. Don't let me leave out how good those early 1980's Philadelphia 76ers were with Maurice Cheeks, Moses Malone and Dr. J...
      When you think about the teams those Lakers had to beat in the 1980's to become champions, when you think about Magic winning The Finals MVP as a rookie, against the greatest Philadelphia 76er team ever ensembled (So far!), When you think about how Magic had to come in to the League, stand up to Kareem, win Kareem over and change the culture of the Lakers, when you factor in all these things, it's hard not to call Magic the GOAT in every aspect of the word. And without a doubt, Magic and Kareem are the greatest tandem in NBA history.
      The Michael Jordan led bulls won six championships and only beat a historically great team or a team that won a championship or multiple championships in the Finals, once. (Which was Magic and the Lakers themselves.)
      Magic led Laker teams that did it multiple times. People need to think about that when they compare Mike to Magic.
      *People like to get triggered and speak with their heart and emotions, not logic and facts.*

    And that's people,, what differs a great player who's also a leader to a 'merely' great player. I believe such traits (leadership) is what separates these top-level greats from the other greats which more often than not shows in their championship pedigree. It ain't just about individual capability. That's why guys like Melo or Kd or Kyrie never won it when they were asked to be the leader of their team.

      Yeah but they make a dynamic duo and they haven't ran their course yet. Skip still in his prime. Then end of his prime but still in his prime due to the addition of Shannon. Eventually after Lebron and Tom retire I'm sure Skip will eventually get tired as well...But for now they are showtime...

    What’s sad is that the respect Kareem had for the game (“We’ve got 81 more games!”) has been displaced by over the top celebrations for every mundane slam dunk and three point shot. While Magic’s exuberance was special at the time, in hindsight it set a bad precedent.

      You can say the same thing about a good majority of NBA HOF’s.

    • @eski_truv
      @eski_truv ปีที่แล้ว

      No but being tall is part of the game. Also, there’s a lot of 7 footers that weren’t even remotely as good as him, so it’s not like him being big just automatically put him in GOAT contention.

    • @Retired_Detective51
      @Retired_Detective51 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eski_truv Sure, I can agree with that. But his height was such a big part of his game and I was curious. When it comes to NBA basketball knowledge/history, I’m a novice at best, but what made me ask the question is that I just watched a Scotty Pippen interview the other day where he said “Thank God Iverson wasn’t 6’7”. And it made me wonder about how other greats would have played had height not been such a big part of their game. Some dude higher up in the comments called me a “cuckhold” for having the audacity to even opening up a discussion by asking a hypothetical question. I was just curious because I’ve really been getting into old school basketball lately. I didn’t know it was such a touchy topic. I was just wanting to talk about basketball and get others perspective with knowledge greater than mine.
