    One filter is fine but if you like two it won't hurt. I do however recommend using modern metal canister filters rather than the plastic ones, I lost a 74 Beetle to fire due to one of the plastic filters failing haven't used one since. Keep the videos coming!

    I always tell people that the arrow must direct fuel towards the engine. Two filters are just extra assurance that the fuel is not too contaminated before it gets to the carb(s).

    Someone told me you don’t need clamps on the 5mm cloth wrapped hose, it that true?

    • @Volkswagenplanet
      @Volkswagenplanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They came from the factory without clamps. The pressure is real low. The problem is aftermarket parts. Several cheap fuel pumps inlet would come out the pump. The fuel would pour on the engine and catch fire. That's is why you see many use clamps. I lost a all original 67 due to a fire. Ever since I spend the couple bucks for a little peace of mind. Not saying it will completely solve the issue. Hope that helps clarify the use of clamps. Thank you for viewing and commenting. Feel free to ask questions on any other videos. Take care, stay safe and warm. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

      Where is the filter located? Front of car, rear of car?

    • @tecate9408
      @tecate9408 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Volkswagenplanet one under tank one along trans. I've been trying different jets on carb 140 in there now but really rich, might go back down to 127 or 132 main. Carb has been dipped. Rebuilt, sprayed out with carb cleaner. I seen another video and filter was very calm no bubbles just filled about half way, air has to be getting in somewhere but wouldn't it leak?

    • @Volkswagenplanet

    • @tecate9408

      @Volkswagenplanet sorry latest location of filters are one coming in engine bay suspended away from dual port and other is after German Pierburg going into carb. Quite sure it is not heat as it's frothy at start and continues. Been a real perplexity and frustration, I appreciate your help

    Lol .. more filters ... that's crazy-talk !
    vw already has a filter in the tank.
    And another in the fuel pump.
    How many fuel filters do you need ?

      @Volkswagenplanet
      You already have 2 fuel filters, one on the tank, and one in the fuel pump. Sooo ... now you're up to 4 filters.
      Why not go for 6 or 8 ?
      Also .. inside the tank, the intake is 1 inch above the bottom of the tank, and it has a filter over it.
      And your fuel pump has a filter inside it.
      Sooo .. what's all these extra filters for ?
      Besides ... you will probably smoke your fuel pump 🎉

  • @007Narsil007
    @007Narsil007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is the fire concern regarding the filter being located within the engine bay that the filter may leak or that the hose may move and cause a short circuit? It seems to me that the filter being located in an easily viewed location is of benefit and fire risk *should* be minimal with proper precautions and common-sense [not that common unfortunately] fuel line management/installation. Full-Disclosure: I do not (yet) own an air-cooled VW.

    • @Volkswagenplanet
      @Volkswagenplanet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. The issue with classic vw is this. The fuel pump inlets have been known to pull out of the pump housing. This causing the fuel pump to still pump gas onto the engine block or coils. When you see a fire from the engine compartment this is usually what happens. Its the cheap aftermarket parts we are stuck to use. I cant 100 percent confirm but I am working on the answer. I think the filter was monted under the gas tank up front. I'm waiting from a answer from a few vw techs I know back in the 70s. The filter was never in the engine area in all the pictures I have seen in the service manuals. Welcome to the community. If you have any questions at all , just ask. Any idea what year of bug ypur looking at? Thanks for the view. More great vw videos on the way.
