  • A heart condition, even if it is not immediately life-threatening, can still be disabling and eligible for Social Security disability benefits. Social Security has what is known as “Listings” for certain heart conditions. A “listing” is a specific diagnosis, and if you meet all of the requirements in the diagnosis, Social Security will automatically consider you disabled, assuming you meet all of the non-medical requirements.
These listings are very strict, and very technical. Most people with a heart condition will not meet all of these requirements. Even if you don’t meet the technical requirements, it doesn’t mean you lose. Social security will also consider your symptoms to determine whether you are disabled.
If you suffer from heart problems you may be experiencing shortness of breath, heart palpitations, chest pains or nausea. Or perhaps you easily get fatigued, become dizzy, or are weak after exerting yourself or have a general lack of energy because of your heart issues. Without a doubt these symptoms can make it difficult to work and hold a job for eight hours a day, five days a week. But to quality for disability benefits you have to prove your case to Social Security and we can help you do that.

I have several heart conditions as well as other conditions. Since I’m so bad off, I got instantly approved.

Just failed a stress test with abnormal results. They said I have left ventricle anterior ischemia with reversibility. Im 52 come may, applied for SSI/SSDI almost 10 months ago or so and am at step 3, medical review on my initial app. The case is at DDS in south Texas. I am also a newly diagnosed Diabetic. Do you think I have a chance of winning? My case is at 83% progress. Applied for both ssi/ssdi. I just cant work anymore, much less function around daily living.I am bed ridden, sleep all day due to my issues. Will the grid rules help me?

Ive had a pacemaker since 5 years old. I was born with more then 1 heart defects. Even having a mechanical valve . They say I can work . I’m 22 years old now. It’s very hard to get approved and show evidence you can’t work with very little symptoms i don’t know what to do. Just fight all I can do..

I hear you, i am 30 years old with 3 different types of arrhythmias, i even went through a 6 hour long catheter ablation, i have had a Cardioversion where they shocked my heart with 600 jewels and sent nights in the Emergency room ICU and that's not including the meds i have been on and am still on, but i am still fighting for my ssi right now and i have all records even recent stress test, holter monitors, and ecos, I feel like its going to be impossible to get but i am not gonna give up because I littlary can not work without risking chance of heart attack or stroke and even my doctor is backing me due to the seriousness of my conditions, stay in there and dont give up especially if you caint work, i have contacted a lawyer and he said that after my second denial to contact him again and he would take my case, that it will be hard to win but not impossible and that he can do it. Like you said keep on fighting and dont give up we been doing it all our lives and remember everything is possible, good luck and I wish you the best and hope you win your case.

Yes, keep fighting. I have been for three years now. I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Congestive Heart Failure in 2019 in my early 40's then. Many complications due to them including chronic fatigue, edema, shortness of breath, arrhythmias, incontinence with the diuretics....and I've still had the hardest time waiting to get approved. Some days I feel like just giving up. And then others I know I have to keep at it!

@@mimilittle1863hey u guys have any updates? I’m 24 with a CHD trying to get disability too. They’ve denied me to be a pilot and failed my physicals for basically any job that has a physical. Crazy how I’m disabled enough to not be a pilot or even a helper at most places, and I still have to fight for disability? It’s insanity how lots of people are abusing the system and the people with real disabilities like congenital heart diseases are getting denied. I know a guy true story 100% he broke his pinky finger. And he was on disability for the rest of his life. Even building houses as a contractor on the side while still collecting broken pinky finger disability. But WOAH HOLD UP SLOW DOWN if u have a bad heart you have to do 1000 different tests to prove it just for the government to be like “oh it’s not severe enough yet, you’re not dead yet” (DENIED) when I literally have a doctor saying my heart should avoid any stress at all, it’ll take years off of your life like miles off an engine. Yet apparently having a weak heart or “Congenital heart disease” is Not disabled even tho it’s on the qualified lists of disabilities. The whole system is so messed up…
