As a rc airplane modeler I've been using CA for over a decade. I'm fascinated by the aerosol kicker from Gluboost, most kickers cloud the glue. The perimeter marker is also a pretty cool idea, thin CA can go everywhere if you're not careful. Sometimes it does even when you are
I first heard about pulling dents out of wood using steam from a billiards repair guy in the mid to late 90's and always think about it when I see you doing it. Awesome hack!
Been using ca glue kicker for years in the rc hobby. It really is amazing how quickly it cures the glue. Id be interested to learn the science behind how it works one day.
Thanks for the video, trying to fix a dent in a Les Paul neck. This looks like the way to go. Already tried to steam it out but, lost my nerve and stopped. Seems like the steam wasn't getting through the finish. Going to give it another shot in the near future. Really appreciate your videos and your special brand of humor.
The les paul has a nitrocellulose finish, most other guitars have polyurethane finish so you need to be very careful around that stuff; maybe Dave could chime in on that.
@@caloss2, agreed it is a 77 so it also has a maple neck. Maybe I should just fill it. It's not that large but, you can feel it when playing. It had a Kahler on it at one time so it will never be a collectors item. It is a great player though.
StewMac and cheese posted a good video how to fix dents exact same process but it was on unfinished wood. This is cool, you did it on a finished neck should work on the body too. Great video how to.
Nice video Dave! I'm a cabinet maker and have been using 2P-10 for years. It's also the bane of my existence. The accelerator does not smell nice and I'm usually glueing myself to something on a regular basis. lol I enjoy these finish repair videos a lot and have learned a thing or two from you. What's the verdict on the wax pencil? Seems like it doesn't adhere well to finished wood.
Dave a question that has been on my mind for a long time: Do your customers watch these amazing videos of yours? If so, what has been the best and the worst feedback or discussion you had?
Gluboost...lol....or superglue and zip kicker as it was known for many years in the UK. Pay £45.00 for the gluboost kit in the UK from a luthiers supplier (um ...nope) or alternative go to a good wood turning supply store and buy different thicknesses of a cyanoacrylate glue (superglue) or Mitre Fast or Mitre Mate for around £5.00 for the kit. I have been using superglue for dent repairs on guitars (and mitre mate in my joinery business) for years using the exact same process as Dave. Great finish on PU guitars...not sure I would use it in any quantity on Nitro as I am not sure how it would wear in relation to a NC finish. Never had an issue with standard superglue... although I know initial version of zip kicker was banned from many countries on health grounds... love your videos Dave...not sure I have ever missed one.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff Hi Dave.... how do you find it differs from other CA products? I'm not being critical ...genuinely interested as I do a lot of guitar and bass work and it would have to be significantly better to justify such a huge difference in price. Be great to know your thoughts. The only thing I dont use are the accelerators..(unless there is no choice)...as you said in your video they stink...anything that smells that bad cant be good for you!! Prefer to.let it cure naturally helps alleviate any possible clouding to the CA.
I tried using heat and steam to get a ding out, before I used ca but it didn’t work. I guess it was because there was finish on the neck?? DAVE! why didn’t mine work, but yours did?? I thought if it had a finish on the neck you can’t steam it out?? Tell us Dave! Your finish touch ups are fucking bad ass. Especially that old Martin you did a while back. Fuckin awesome
I like the idea of Premier, but I'm a Patron and long time Subscriber and have the alert bell on, but *still* not getting notifications from TH-cam when you first upload the vid. So unless I happen to be browsing YT, I don't see it until sometime after the Premiere has been shown. TH-cam needs to check into that. Keep up the great work Davey!
Same. I get notifications on youtube itself, but not on my phone or e-mail. Basically if I'm not already looking at youtube on desktop and staring at the top right corner, I'm not exactly being "notified"
Love the results with the gluboost stuff but I have to wear goggles and a mask using that stuff. It burns my eyes if I don't. Can only imagine what it's doing to the lungs.
That's a very good method, but it would work better if the finish was scraped off in the dent. That way, the water/steam can penetrate the wood and swell it back up. Not criticizing , just offering my experiences.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff Dave, I have the utmost respect for what you do, your experience, and expertise in the field. I wasn't trying to rag on you or your methods, really. All I was trying to say is that water/steam penetrates raw wood easier. That's all. I wasn't telling you your business; that's not my intent. Of course a repair has to preserve and protect the finish. No disagreement there. I just figured since the gash was on the neck and out of sight, a simple touch up would work after the repair. Peace.
I love watching the finish repairs for some reason.

I used the same technique on gunstocks, lifting dents works brilliantly.
Another Friday night with Dave! Much awesomeness in this video!

@@DavesWorldofFunStuff oh neat! Ill have to try that... Breathing in right? :)
Try this: Glue article. Spray on kicker. Finito!!!
Featuring the magic of Dr Dave...
if you heat crayon with a bic lighter it goes on better . interesting vid thanks .and maybe some small pin holes at the dent to let moisture in ??
never seen the "steam" trick before, great stuff- thanks Dave
Dave’s videos - best served with a side order of beer.

On poly you can pierce the finish with a thin needle, but I haven't tried it on nitro.
put some small pin holes in area to let steam in .; and use a bic lighter to heat crayon for glueboost

Would that dent on the neck be fixed by sanding off the lacquer, steaming the wood and then resealing the neck?
Onya Dave.... thanks for the vid Cobba :)
Great vid Dave, dropping knowledge as always!!
Nice job again, thanks !

Had an Idea how about a bit of the yellow crayon around the threads of your glue bottle to stop it sticking ?
Good stuff!

Hey Dave, do you think a steam iron would work? As in just letting steam blow onto the divot from a few inches away.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff good shout! I hadn't thought about that. Cheers! ✌
Looks like he's been playing tennis with it lol
I am looking for a very experienced luthier in Connecticut who is well experienced using GluBoost. Any suggestions?

Yes on both and even unfinished wood too. Stew Mac has the same video for unfinished wood is worth checking out too.
