Tana Tanoi did a presentation on the development process of the game and at 30:04 he revealed that spawn locations are biased by level designers - there's "suburb" (S) areas and D and C areas, which may be downtown and commercial districts or something. Either way, each tile has weights so the game prefers to spawn things in specific locations. And then I guess there's an additional algorithm of trying to spawn an appropriate amount of houses for the level of demand, with a buffer, and each house usually spawns in a cluster, where the same colored house spawns near each other until it moves on to the next cluster. Late game houses seem to stop using clusters though.
demolition permits would be a fun addition: where you could destroy unused houses to make more space? the only worry would be that it might make the game too easy but its still a nice thought
i think the offset is that the houses pop in at a fixed rate, so if you destroy the houses you wont get new ones any faster, which can result in not having enough for business if you get too trigger happy
They should add a four lane road feature and it should probably replace the traffic lights. You would just get the option of 10 four lane roads (two in each direction)
Fyi. The ridicules scores on the top of the leaderboard are the result of reaching an equilibrium at the max expention level. If you balance everything out on max size, you can let the game run endlessly without intervention.
@@mloxard well, how would they have achieved 2 billion otherwise? They probably used a macro, cause you do have to choose an item every week and it would be really tedious to do that for so long manually
@@twaniboy11 It’s almost definitely cheating. 2 billion is way too high and the name is blank. Even if it was actually possible to get a score of 2 billion the person would at least put their name down. Every time I play this game I lose to some buiseness that my eyes just missed and that had been doing fine forever with enough houses to sustain it but they just dont travel to the buiseness in time and my eyes just are focused everywhere except the glowing ticking red timer
It's funny that Tyler said it sucked when I thought the spawns were pretty lucky compared to some that I got. Sometimes the distribution of house spawns and lengths can be incredibly uneven.
I thought maybe they used road tiles to block businesses from spawning, got their city to a stable situation and let the game idle for a while, but like… Even if they were somehow making 4,000 points per minute, it would still take almost a full year of letting the game idle to reach 2 billion. Definitely a hacked score.
Yeah, you can currently still do infinite scores with the right setup, as demand stops increasing at ~3k-9k, depending on the map, but 2 billion would take far too long to be legit. Hundreds of thousands and perhaps a few million could be achievable if the game is running for several weeks. The most painful aspect is picking weekly rewards, and I'd assume many would use an autoclicker and that point you could call it cheating by a technicality. Regardless, it requires a lot of skill and luck to get a setup with infinite score potential, so I think an autoclicker might be fair, but it feels more intuitive if they just capped the score with a "you win"-screen once it reaches peak-demand equilibrium for a few weeks.
@Schlugel Maybe. But in my opinion there's a big difference between using hacking tools to skip skill-based gameplay mechanics and a tool to skip something that's supposed to be a trivial bonus choice. And there's also the road spawn blocking trick, and some could consider that cheating too. So I wouldn't assume everyone thinks it's that black and white.
They should add train tracks that are there when you start and you have to build a crossing, or you can build a road. But of you do, the train might crash.
Yo at 10:30 that middle blue was about to kill you then after the week ended it went away after you picked bridge at 10:37. You can clearly see that middle blue no longer has a timer, is this part of the game?
I can't believe he still hasn't worked out that when one of the icons is highlighted black, it means you have that, and if it's white, it means you don't have it. He still asks, do I have a bridge? As if there is no way to tell.
this is why you use tunnels, or else you get the mountains fucking falling on a road that school buses travel on (yes they fixed it, but that shit was fixed when i was going to middle school, there would deadass be chunks of the mountain on the road, atleast once a month we saw an accident on our way to school. even fixed that road probably has an atrociously high number of accidents, even for my city (Bogota))
Zurich and tunnels; zurich doesn't have mountains in it, but non the less its cool. I can understand why they choose zurich (most popular city in switzerland), Alps would be a better name, but its not a city. I know, its complaining on a high level, but I just couldn't help myself.
Honestly, if I could make two feature requests of this game? Let me adjust which of the two sides a single business has its driveway on, and let me bulldoze houses so they stop blocking stuff.
That's like asking to cut the jigsaw pieces in your own way Which is fine, a sandbox mode where you could do that would be great But I disagree if you mean main gameplay
Those massive numbers are legit I guess eventually if u block enough businesses and keep goign the business don’t require more and more customers so u can basically go on forever
I like how the residents in mini motorways choose their house location by blindfolding themselves and throwing a dart at a map
No, the business are the ones to throw darts blindfolded, while the houses are strategically placed in the worst places

I hope the devs of this game add a sandbox mode. This could be a cool city/traffic simulator to mess around in.
