Thank you for this video I’ve been working on my CR-V with my dad and Honda wants to charge $250 for the replacement pads but this saved me money. Doesn’t hurt to learn and do it yourself.
Really well done! Good video, good audio, good explanation of parts and advice. I always open the brake fluid reservoir and make sure the fluid doesn't overflow when I push the piston back in.
Very helpful ... ended up doing my on the side of the road ... total time for both sides 45 minutes and the total cost for parts was about $50 ... doing it in a shop would have been about three hours and about $300.
Thanks for the info Jim,I reckon I would’ve been afraid and probably have screwed up this job without having seen your video here! When the time comes you will have saved me a lot of money!
thanks great short vid , saved me some time, doing my daughters brakes on a super hot day on the same car also, hope it goes quick and easy like this, i wonder how many other guys are doing the same thing today.
Good video short and easy to follow I know how to do brakes but it's been awhile. Good to have something to watch to remember what the heck is going on fixing mom's crv today.
The sliding pins on my 2002 Honda CRV from the UK dry out every six months and require re-lubing other wise they squeal like a pig. Thank you for the video. :)
In my 2003 honda crv, there is a wire spring attaching both brake pads, it looks like a "V" and the pads have two small holes to put the wire springs in to allow the brake pads to keep a slight distance from the rotor.
WONDERFUL! Thank you so much, this is the 2nd video, and the first one I watched he completely skipped the lube grease (which I am glad I purchased with new pads last night because I may have to do this as we just had a TX ICE/SNOW storm and my mechanic is not returning my test! GAk! And you left the caliper top bolt and simply raised it - great method - the other guy took it off completely - but one thing he did, was replaced the shims? I will have to check this out.
Perfect explaining. I know how to do am but when I replace my pads I hear a squealing noise from front left I didn't add brake grease so I was thinking that is the reason
Thank you!! Super easy!! How would I know if my caliper is bad… also ( I have the exact same car as your daughter..) I do leak fluid my self as well.. seems like something that shouldn’t leak, no?
@@thomasberkebile9813 as long as the piston pushes in easy and the caliper is not leaking, you’re ok. If it’s real hard to push in, replace it. Also what leaks are you referring to? When you push the piston back in the caliper, it sends fluid back to the master cylinder. If the master cylinder was already full, there is a chance it may spill over.
thank you ! i took the clip out of the center of the caliper to see the brake shoes... and was wondering how it went back in ! LOL and I'll lube it when I put the clip back in ! .... thanks ! bob....
The two skinny pins that goes on top of brake pads holes. I don't see any in yours... I decided not to install them and I'm going for a test drive now..
Check out my other videos. I have one where i do front pads and rotors on an Accord. Very similar job. Rear brakes are also very similar, just arranged a little different. As for the CRV, unfortunatly, it was wrecked back in December. We replaced with another Accord
C-clamp and big pliers are my 2 best guesses for common tools that people may have. They make a special tool for that but ive never needed it. Maybe a friend close by has one? Also, i think some of the parts stores will loan out special tools. Especially if you bought the parts from them. Sorry i dont have a better answer. Good luck!
Do you mean it smells hot? Could be one of your calipers is sticking. Try to push back inwards like when you are replacing the pads. If they do not push in easily may need to replace a caliper. You may need to consult a shop as this could get expensive and involved. Good luck!
@@jimcooke640 is possible to replace the rubber ring inside the cylinder? I think your logic is right. It is 1999 Honda. still run strong. I only wish gas is not so expensive. I would love to convert this car to electric.
I wouldnt, go to harbor freight and getca cheap c clamp. Also a good idea to leave old pad in caliper and press on it. I know i didnt in video, but its a good idea to prevent damage
I used this tutorial this morning, it was perfectly what I needed. Simple precise and to the point. Thank you!
This tutorial was spot on i needed a lil refresher video cuz its been years since i done pads i appreciate u taking the time to help god bless

Great video. Haven't done brakes in 30 years but it's about the same. Excellent common sense service tips as well. Thanks.

Great video you helped 17,000 people save at least $150 each!
And 17,000 mechanics made less money :( hahaha jk but I guess it is true.
Thank you for posting this. I have the Haynes manual but this cleared their explanation to an understandable degree. Good video.
great video. clean, clear and crisp. I normally remove the caliper but like this process much better. going out to do it now. Thanks
Thanks for the video. I am going out to do mine now
Thanks Jim. Really helpful. I appreciate your time showing us all this. Cheers from England 👍

I had to go back and look at the video. My new pads had shims on them already. I think most come with them.
BTW, bolt head size is 14 mm.
thank you
thank you. I hate having to lug out the whole case of bolts. Just in case people want to know, the tire lugs are 17mm.
@@samberhanu mine were 19mm for the tire lugs

Great job. Very informative and to the point. Had to laugh when the phone went off, as they always do when you're in the middle of a filthy job!

is this the same process for a 2003 Honda crv?
Gabe Clark Can't say for sure, but I think it would be very similar.
Woo Hoo! 100k
great video
Thank you 👍🙂
No mention of the oil overfilling the reserviour when you pushed back the cylinder ( be aware )
Yes it was...around the 11 minute mark...
Excellent thanks
nice job

May I know the wrench size to unscrew the pad clipper ?
I believe it was either a 12mm or 14mm. Cant remember, and I dont have the vehicle now.

how do i find the specs for the HRV to torque the bolts?
Is it the top of bottom screw to remove the caliper
Cafe6Racer if I understand your question, you have to remove both screws to remove the caliper. Hope this helps.
What size wrench is that bolt
I took the bolt off but it doesn’t swing up
would hammering the calliper be a bad idea?
I wouldnt, go to harbor freight and getca cheap c clamp. Also a good idea to leave old pad in caliper and press on it. I know i didnt in video, but its a good idea to prevent damage
My inner pad won't stay in place when applying the retainer pins! Any ideas?
Not sure what pins you are talking about?
Jim Cooke anti squeal spring

Torque wrench please. Lube pins with Silicone grease.
