I quit drinking almost 2 months ago after 7 years of daily drinking. What I noticed since quitting: 1. I have very few actual friends 2. I have more free time 3. I hit the gym every day 4. I am saving money 5. No more hangovers
I’m 24 days sober today. Feeling strong and confident I can do this! You can too. It’s never too late to turn your life around. I'm 64 I look fine I work out I walk my dog .... I dunno 1 hr in the morning and 2 more runs because I work from home. OK Covid 19 but you work from home and nobody's watching you and and it is amazing the trouble you can get into. I started drinking to excess in my late 20s - no excuse just my story; my parents died in a crash and my Dad had no insurance and they were newcomers to the country I live in Canada, and everyone else had been killed off in WW2. So I worked through that with a therapist and swimming and meditation and quit smoking which was not a problem; I couldn't stop having some stiff drinks at night until I started to wake up at 4 am and it got worse and I stopped for 5 years and I did accomplish things; I have a doctorate which might be useless but proves I have a brain. Then I couldn't get a job so I started drinking again. I ended up homeless; still goodlooking enough for this experience to be totally horrible. I finally was sitting in a bar with a pool table and a jukebox and played Refugee by The Heartbreakers over and over again, and some guy came over and said hi, and let me sleep on his sofa and 6 months later we got married I was translating I got my dog back whom after 2 yrs on the street, that would be me, still loved me. Then recently my person died of a heart attack. So once again during the last 4 yrs I'm behaving like an insane person; stayed sober for 6 months and cannot live without a dog. This summer has been so hard for everyone but every month I go on a 3 day binge at some point, no matter what I do. My dog may have 14 yrs left I cannot fuck around. I used to go to AA meetings but I have a sister and apparently that's her territory. So I'm fucked up but at least I know it and my dog gives me a reason to stay sober this time. Sorry for long comment' hope it might help someone else. Great video! Tx so much.
My first week sober was rough man....I couldn't concentrate...frustrated...emotional...for me I just want to be in control of my mind...alcohol doesn't allow that..my only priority became drinking...a complete mess...and horrible with money because it all goes to the bar...I completely agree about friendships....theres none when drinking...its all smoke and mirrors and empty promises...including myself...which created extreme loneliness...vicious circle...I am going the sober route....its not easy....but I want my mental freedom...thank you for the good message...
I’ve been without alcohol for almost a full month for a dry January. I’m considering keeping it going, mostly because of the benefit of clarity that you mentioned. I can definitely perceive myself, my job and my life more clearly. My question for you is: How long did it take, for you, before that clarity morphed into action and actively making other changes in your life?
Great question Zach. It was like you - definitely within the first month - however I have always done a lot of work on trying to get clarity in my life. I'm more clear than ever at the moment, but that's continually asking myself: "If I had a magic wand, how would my life look?" Then, I try and just move toward that ideal life every day. It's working so far...I wonder what it'll be like in a few years! I enjoy reading Brian Tracy's literature. He helped a lot. Hope that helps mate!
Got 191 today without alcohol and drugs. Health is way better in every aspect. Working on to improve my life. Seems that all went well but some things took some time. But I got it all on paper and signed. Amazing what you can do in nearly 200 days. I will stay on this track. To me the 365 is no longer a goal. It's fact that I will achieve! I wish some things would go faster but it is like it is After over 25 years doing stuff like that it's okay if it took a year to recovery and till others who can decide things completley belive that things have changed. But I got a good laptime, I think. All will work out!
Great job. I’ve been off alcohol for 2.5 years now. There’s no place for poison when it comes to optimal success. Have you ever tried meditation for anxiety? I meditate for 20 min 3-4 times a week. It has helped me dramatically with my anxiety. Also a little yoga helps as well. Best wishes to your continued growth and success ✌️
The single decision that stands out as my best ever was quitting alcohol 20 years ago. Fast forward 20 years and my business is going great, I have a girlfriend I really like , my stress levels are non existent. I thought everyone drank until I quit, but it turns out hardly anyone does. Your friends will change 100%, and the level of success you experience with skyrocket, over time. It will take some time and some guts to do this, but it works. We all like successful results..............
'' i dont drink like normal people, I get smashed'' gold :D, seeing some similarities, its rough.. same problem here, we had common thing with bros to just smash beer as fast as possible when we started drinking at an early age. So this way of drinking kinda came along with me even if I was drinking vodka or rum and I got smashed pretty fast and early at parties for a long-long time in my life and fortunately for me and to my close ones I finally decided to stop drinking and big thing here that helped me, was to detach myself from my friends.. which was emotionally hard at the beginning but absolutely necessary for a life that I and all human beings deserve. After being sober for some time I decided to contact my friends again and talked my story to them and how I saw our way of life and where it was leading if we continued this path. They appreciated my honesty and now they are trying to quit drinking as well. Nowadays we come together, play cards and discover new cousins! that's way cooler
Been 6 days since my last drink Iv been drinking since I was 14 now I’m going to be 37 this is a war but F it I’m going to keep on with my sobriety wish me luck 🍀
This was very helpful. I currently just quit alcohol due to the negative impact it was having on my life too. On another note, I was wondering if you speak Taiwanese. I always wanted to move there but felt the language barrier might be a problem. Great video man and god bless
I could probably stay sober forever. The friendship thing is another. I really didn’t have friends even when I was drinking. Friends still rarely called and I’d drink alone or go to bars and talk to random people I’d never see again. And now I find it super hard to make any friendships. I’m 28 and have pretty much zero friends. And I’m pretty much anti social. I find life pretty empty. Sober or not.
working out gave my life a meaning. still have no real friends though. but my anxiety is not as bad anymore. I'm not social at all and i don't like meeting new people. even meeting aunts and uncles feels weird. I'm pretty much fine on my own. working out gave me enough selfesteem to find peace in being alone and it also gave me goals. meeting my GF, quit drinking and working out have been the 3 most important things that have ever happend in my life and they turned it around 180 degrees.
There is no auch thing as real friend. I never have one. Try learning new languages, take up a course, volunteer in any organisation, pick up gardening or anything except hiding in your room, crying alone
Excellent video mate congrats and thanks for sharing your experience i want to be as strong as you, this is my 13th day without any substance (caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, alcohol or weed). I hope to make one day at a time, i want to be sober. Blessings.
So glad I have found your videos. Your life sounds exactly like mine. I also live in Chiang Mai and am also a personal trainer. However I just can’t seem to quit. Relapsed again. Arghh. Just downloaded Allan Carr’s book. Keep up the great work. Can’t believe the similarities
The friendship thing is interesting. I've definitely been experiencing isolation since I've quit. I know I have friends that are happy for me but they are also sad. I don't blame them. This is probably the trickiest thing for me as I'm six moths in sobriety. Not sure how this one plays out??
I can totally relate to the friends situation im not as bad as i used to be when i was a teenager im now 30, For the last 5 or 6 years i only would go out drinking about 5 times a year and even at that my friends would throw some sort off a huff because im apparently better craic when drinking and i don't feel any different? I told them they are alcoholics and they're argument is they don't drink everyday like an alaholic does but they've been going mad nearly every weekend for maybe the last 10 years.
Lol I didn't have friends anyways before quitting, only my partner and my best friend that moved out of the country, but they are both very supportive. A change I noticed after quitting is when me and my boyfriend sat with his friends I always needed a drink to open up, sometime even drank at home before when i could, just to help myself even say hi,and u know when u start drinking earlier than everyone u finish after them drunk and sad, i am very shy..But now I don't know how to explain it, I'm more confident without it like i know I'm the only one not drinking and I'm still interesting and feel better. Of course sometime i feel boring but u get the point.
Hey Garrett. I got a few clients online for fitness coaching and I did some writing for another person. Booked my ticket, and just decided to figure out when I got here. Luckily, things worked out.
It's been 1yr since I stoped drinking hardest thing I ever done I suffered a heart attack and stoped cold turkey after a life of drinking more beer then most no drugs 46yr old now I can hop In my boat 4th of July wkend and dont worrie anymore about wardens I can ride my 4 wheelers and dirt bike and wont go to jail not to mention the money u save once u get past the head akes it's not bad
I stopped drinking early on in 2019. I was never a "big" but, a regular drinker. I promised myself that I'd allow myself a drink on special occasions and did so over the recent Xmas/New Year period. One of the first things I discovered was when I stopped, I had awful palpitations for a few days, which I've had before, but never associated them with stopping drinking. BTW, I'm fascinated by your accent. You sound like you come from the UK, as I do, but I can't place it! 😉
I take a break from drink a month here 2 month there, 4 month is my record, its crazy how much better you feel when you quit, you realise just what a mugs game drinking is,, im off it again now 2 weeks today in, now i think im gonna kick the habit for good.. i can get quite greedy with drink, having it in bulk all the time from supermarkets.. More days of drinking than not.. its a easy trap to fall in before you know it you feel like crap look like crap etc etc.. poison..
Hi Leon. I'm in bkk too mate. I stay 2 and a half months a year during winter in the UK. I landed 2nd of January and decided to quit alcohol too. 15th today And still going strong. I get up with my girl friend at half 5 each morning and go running. I've always ran but found my alcohol intake was starting to get in the way. I'm looking at making a business here to but struggling to know where to start. Was hoping u might have a few tips as I feel I'm on your path now. Cheers Leon. Great videos.

@@LeonSylvester sleep is the big thing, I now sleep like a log.
Thank you brutha.. this video has been very helpful and encouraging in my journey of sobriety 👍👍
My pleasure - thanks for checking it out
Leon is like that best friend you don't have that doesn't drink and you don't drink when in reality most everyone you know - co workers - friends - family - drinks. LETS' BE A SHINING example and stay BOOZE FREE. LET'S GO! love your videos man. Your testimony here reminds me of myself for sure. Much appreciated brother on sharing. GET AFTER IT IN THE GYM - and enjoy other outdoor activities. tennis + pickleball are great options. competitive and will whip your arse in shape! have a great day man
Thanks for your inspiration. I have made 30 days
Great job!
Tx so much.
I’ll try to follow your great example Leon! Great stuff, keep it up.
Thanks for the comment. How are you getting on?
I’ve been without alcohol for almost a full month for a dry January. I’m considering keeping it going, mostly because of the benefit of clarity that you mentioned. I can definitely perceive myself, my job and my life more clearly. My question for you is: How long did it take, for you, before that clarity morphed into action and actively making other changes in your life?
Great question Zach. It was like you - definitely within the first month - however I have always done a lot of work on trying to get clarity in my life.
I'm more clear than ever at the moment, but that's continually asking myself: "If I had a magic wand, how would my life look?"
Then, I try and just move toward that ideal life every day. It's working so far...I wonder what it'll be like in a few years!
I enjoy reading Brian Tracy's literature. He helped a lot. Hope that helps mate!
I would say around 3 months.
Alex Finn What is it about the 3-month mark, Alex?
@@katuhstrahfik you'll have to keep it going to find out 💪
One year

Just wait my friend...The best is yet to come as my Mum likes to say.
@@LeonSylvester awsome man, cant wait.
Thank U so much I really needed to hear this no more drinking for me
2nd day again today and this video gives me hope!
You seem to be such a sweetheart! You inspire me a lot. Watching you from Brazil! Keep up the good work :)
Thank you! It's not easy being this truthful to oneself.
Boom!
Congratulations on your giving up alcohol !! I gave up alcohol on 1 January 1999. I have never felt better !!!
This is a great video, simple and true. I'm stoked for this year.
Hell yeah man! I'm also stoked for 2020!
Yep! Definitely helps
Hi Leon. I'm 60 days in. You're vids are helpful.
awesome, inspirational video! Thank you for sharing this!!!
My pleasure Lisa - thanks a lot.
Damn! You have some cool, understanding friends for sure! Thanks for the update mate!
Very good mate explained.
Great video.
Series 800 Terminator Model 101 ✋🙏 thanks my man
Great video man keep it going!
Irv Gotti much love brother - thanks
Inspiring and relatable. Thanks
@@KaptainKerl Awesome!
fcoll9123 you’re lucky if you have even one true friend in life. Most people don’t. Hang in there.
There is no auch thing as real friend. I never have one. Try learning new languages, take up a course, volunteer in any organisation, pick up gardening or anything except hiding in your room, crying alone
think nailed it. good job man.
Thanks so much man!
thank you so much for making these videos ❤️
Excellent video mate congrats and thanks for sharing your experience i want to be as strong as you, this is my 13th day without any substance (caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, alcohol or weed).
I hope to make one day at a time, i want to be sober.
Blessings.
So glad I have found your videos. Your life sounds exactly like mine. I also live in Chiang Mai and am also a personal trainer. However I just can’t seem to quit. Relapsed again. Arghh. Just downloaded Allan Carr’s book. Keep up the great work. Can’t believe the similarities
Another very unique and interesting video, beautiful.
Great mate.
Cheers Gareth!
I’ve been struggling to start. Definitely feeling more inspired to do it for good
Proud of you brother love you
Great vid thank you for making it very true words godbless you always and happy new year to you and your people
Thanks a lot Carl

Appreciate that Brandon. You might like the 5 Pillar Video Course I just put together. Link is in the description.
I think I'm ready to give it a go! Thanks for the motivation
No worries Becca
2 month without alcohol plus i only drink water i feel great
The friendship thing is interesting.
Of course sometime i feel boring but u get the point.
how did yo go about moving to thailand?
Congrats bro.
Inspiration dude. 💯🙂
Stumbled upon this video, ChiSox ❤ for life
I stopped drinking early on in 2019.
Cheers for the comment mate! I'm from Lancashire in England :)
Love it mate! Feel free to add me on FB at Leon Sylvester. Let’s chat there.
Thank you brother
