I loved your previous honest video. Not whiny at all. Very refreshing to see everything. The good and the bad. I've remodeled as well and it's no picnic. Important that people know that. Irrespective, you guys are fantastic!
As someone who has run construction jobs for homeowners for a few decades I think the two of you have done a great job. Understanding what needs to be done and getting little details like the boxing in of the pipes. Truly an important detail. And to get the hounds approval on the new floor is great. We have been working on geometra problems up in Asti. There is nothing easy about trying to remodel a home in a foreign country. Even if you are living there. So happy for you to have made a home. What a great accomplishment. You will be able to look at the memories within those walls for many years.
Reality always has its ups and downs. It’s not always a bowl of cherries 🍒! Anyone that has done what you’re doing understands the frustrations. Have you ever watched the channel Villa Aroldi ? I think you would empathize. Unfortunately contractors or tradesmen often let us down…either with no shows, late shows, or rip offs. You’ve made so much amazing progress despite the disappointments. Keep the faith lovely people ❤ love your purchases…great you were able to get it all in the car !
Thank you SO much Marianne. Actually Henrik is a friend of ours who we got to know through this journey 🥰 Villa Aroldi is an amazing project and we went to see Henrik and Anna there two summers ago.
I'm still your American cheerleader, you guys! So sorry you've had to deal with that floor issue...I hate do-overs, especially when a PROFESSIONAL was SUPPOSED to do the job PROFESSIONALLY!! Chin up, march on...look how far you've come! Plus: The ALPS in the distance AND springtime, and Ernie! ❤
You two have done amazing things on your own. When I first came to Italy, I had moments that were frustrating with builders, installers, but I am positive and I just tried to blow them off and know it can be repaired. And it has been after a few years. Lessons learned . Your house is inviting and comfortable. That is thanks to the two of you. I hope no more bad luck befalls you.
Thank you so much ❤️ we have def learnt so much from this journey. and in the end it will all be worth it we hope. Thank you so much for your support and kind words!
Can you do a list for us of things that are easier to replace and Italians involved in? For example, getting windows put in I know it’s expensive, but does it go well?
I love your work, it’s looking so good! Soon you will be able to enjoy spring and summer, knowing that you have done an amazing job 👏👏Always looking forward to the next episode ❤
You guys are my heroes! I do appreciate the raw side as well as the positive as that is the reality of any renovation, regardless of where you are. Italy does add its own brand of frustration, LOL! The cantina will be a great additional space - it is coming along nicely! Soundproofing the flush tube is a sound idea, no pun intended!
AAW. Nancy! Thank you so so so much. Haha it for sure does. Luckily it has so many up's as well so it's easy to forget about it when things dont go well. hahaha, love the pun. And thanks again for your very kind comment!
In South Africa cane furniture was made by Habakuk and the chairs with armrests had a +-100mm foam cushion covered in fabric and the other one a cushion just on the seat. Regards from Billy
Oh my gosh guys don't worry about what you say. If I was video on me and my husband, we would be having it bleeped every other word with our mouths lol you're doing great! Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖
Hahaha Edward had to do that with me (Emelie) in the beginning. Apparently I use the F-world a little bit too frequently for our viewers liking so I try to be better, haha. 🤣 Thank you so much Jackie!
Thank you Martha! We have the same in the whole main house besides the bathrooms. They remind us of the traditional terracotta tiles which were used in houses like ours back in the days 😊
I’m so sorry you both had to deal with such shoddy workmanship and lost money as well. You’re both doing a great job and fun to watch. The floor looks wonderful.
Guys, the cantina floors look incredible! I am so sorry for your frustration and it’s completely understandable. You’re in a marathon situation but you are making wonderful progress. I admire your determination and pluck. We adore you and are cheering you on. Great idea on the patreon! Will be signing up to support you! 🤗
Thank you so much Michelle! haha I love the reference to a marathon - that's actually how it often feels. I just saw that you signed up to support us on Patreon. Thank you so so much ❤️
Looks super. I joined on Patreon. I have several stories of buying and restoring a house at Lake Como Italy. So I enjoy watching someone else go through the renovation process.
I just love cantinas! They are such a great additional space and I'm sure you'll get great use from it! We start renovating ours soon too and we've purchased a little cantina next door, so are creating a 1 bedroom apartment from the 2 together...so exciting! You are doing such a great job and are becoming so professional in everything you do! Congrats! Marisa 🥰😍🤗💖
The of hard work and effort is really paying off and i appreciate the updates very much as it transports me to your area and albeit as an onlooker and the positivity tinged with the harsh realities you are now sharing more openly show are probably a wise move as to be always 100 % cheerful is hard work in itself. I really look forward to seeing the evolution of chicken coop terrace area and the first / next level down in to the lower garden and possible terraces that you are starting to clear in recent episodes. It may be the multi-stemmed trees your started trim down were there for coppicing of firewood .. not sure what trees they are but it might give an indication. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for sharing the journey which i have enjoyed greatly.
Sånt är livet, sa svensken. I hope you have asked for at least half of your money back because of the poorly made flooring. It is generally known that when you hire someone to do a renovation, it is good for the owner to be there to supervise that the work is done well. I think it's like that all over the world and not just in Italy. Tyvärr. Frustration, fatigue and burnout are completely understandable. You have done a tiring big job in your house. I can already see what a beautiful home you are building for yourselves and your guests. Good luck!
Haha unfortunately it doesn't work like that here. When we had issues when renovating in Sweden our contractor gave us money back before us even asking for it. Here we would have been happy if they did 50% of the jobs we paid them to do properly 😂 We hired a project manager/geometra to overlook the whole renovation but unfortunately ended up with a måndagsexemplar. Thank you so much! 🥰
@@OurItalianDreamHouse oj, vad gulligt! You get really great treatment from a construction contractors in Sweden. Here in Finland, however, you should have asked once or even twice before getting the money back. 😄
Thank you! One door leads in to the main house and the other one to the gym/storage/entrance. The laundry will move to a proper laundry section in the storage room but we dont have any water there yet so for the next few weeks it will stay in the cantina 😊
Unfortunately the person who was in charge for the project lead told us to pay, so we did. Since we are guests in this country we were so scared to disrespect the way things are being done here so when we were told to pay monthly (and in some cases upfront...) we did. Let's just say that the next time we'll be doing things on our own rules, haha.
@@OurItalianDreamHouse i also am from u.k.i live in liguria si know how things work .dont mean to be boring but its the way of this country ripping off...a deposit and nothing else .final payment on inspection.
I've been at it for almost 4 years now. Don't despair, enjoy the journey. Not many people get to live the dream that you are living.
Haha we try to enjoy it. It's almost like an addiction to renovate, haha.

Every home needs a Cantina room! Cheers!
Right? 🥰 Cant wait to host our first wine night there.
