    Hannah Barbara productions in a nutshell: Take a group of teens to young adults, be sure one of them at least is a ditzy bimbo, and then have them solve mysteries with some kind of wisecracking annoying personality thing (ghost, dog, car, shark, etc.) use the same 5 loops of animation 10000 times per episode since they only have the budget of a cheeseburger, lather, rinse, repeat.

    Even though I love all Hanna Barbera cartoons unconditionally, I can't help but feel that this concept taken seriously would have been amazing. Imagine a sci-fi horror series (or movie?) about two ladies in a future interplanetary police force who are covertly aided by an actual, real ghost who occasionally alludes to mysterious "orders" that he has received from "above" to help them.

"Casper the Friendly Ghost is in the future helping space cops!" "Laverne and Shirley are in the army with a talking pig as their CO!" "Fonzie and the Happy Days gang are traveling through time and space in a time machine! With a space-babe and a dog sidekick!" "The Shmoo from the old Li'l Abner strip is solving mysteries with teenagers!"

    • @RoninCatholic
      @RoninCatholic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Brandon Spain And my personal favorite classic Casper short is the one I alluded to, which has a quite bittersweet ending. Casper finds an abandoned fox pup in the woods and it is the one animal not afraid of him,
      So he befriends it and treats it like a pet. Later, a hunter is in the woods and decides he wants to shoot it, and Casper tries to intervene - he scares off the hunter and his dogs, but bullets fly right through a ghost and his one and only friend winds up dead. The sweet part of this dark ending is of course that after Casper's buried the fox, the fox's ghost rises from the grave and continues to play with him as if nothing's wrong.
      _This_ very satisfying, but still suitably dark for a ghost, ending to a cartoon for kids is why I wish he just consistently had his pet fox in sequels or reboots or even literally any of the other old shorts...

    • @RoninCatholic
      @RoninCatholic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Brandon Brooks That's pretty sad since that was unironically the best ending to any story in the Casper the Friendly Ghost IP. Yeah, death makes it very bitter for a time but in a setting with a clearly defined and objectively verifiable afterlife, death is only a new beginning.

    I've been taking seizure pills (which also happened to be anti depression pills) for over 20 years. Now that I just started taking emotion pills, I can finally feel again. You are giving me my first out loud laugh since I was 8. I'm so happy! T_T

    ...Does anyone else's ears hurt from listening to the footage? I don't know if it's from a severe lack of bass or white noise from the recording, but something is putting pressure on my eardrums, making me feel like I'm in an airplane and my ears are about to pop.

    "Space Pussy" sounds like an alternate reality sequel to "Bat Pussy"...(Can't stop wondering about "Bat Pussy"...Whatever became of Buddy and Sam?? Somewhere deep in Arkansas their offspring walk the Earth, possibly...some questions are better left unanswered, i suppose.)

    And Hanna Barbara ... yet again demonstrating a lack of anything resembling originality, takes a boring character (Casper), merges it with a known quantity (Charlie's Angels) INNNNN SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
    Let's just say not even later pairing him with Christina Ricci was capable of making Casper an interesting character....

    Did they radioactivate the space gold before space shipping it? Or would that be space radioactivate it.

    I watched this as a young child living abroad, and his name was Gasparzinho. Had to look it up because I couldn't remember shit, other than being called Gasparzinho for being so fucking pale. He actually sounds like a child in that version.

    "Look alive"
    He says to a ghost. There's rubbing salt in a wound, and then there's whatever the fuck Harry just did.
    I wouldn't say Casper can't be scary. Just have him say, "can I keep you". Scares the shit out of me.

    I wonder how many kids born in the early 70s thought this cartoon was some sort of weird dream, and when they told it to people, they were then sent to some sort of counseling for being too imaginative. No, this drug induced cartoon happened. So did Gilligan's Planet. I think there was also a Brady Bunch in space too. Almost as weird as the present day wrestling and Flintstones crossover cartoons. It's also weird the Jetsons didn't show up in this weird canon Jetsons rip off.
