It definitely has that whole '70s "characters saying random shit is funny because it's random shit" vibe to it. Sort of like, "we're too hip and cool to bother writing actual jokes."

I'm pretty sure that the earliest religions worshiped some kind of sun god, let alone a pantheon of them. This was long before even the Sumerian Gods were worshiped, let alone the Abrahamic religions.
Boomer Humor: The Movie

If you want to see some boomer humor check out "Firesign Theater," it's like pure undiluted boomer essence disguised as comedy.
I remember this special, I also remember reading the original comic strips as a little girl. I also remember the religious BC strips Johnny Hart put out in later years, even though the strip featured cavemen (and BC stands for Before Christ). As for the special, on the whole I'd rather see A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.
that tree is most definitely haunted, had this on in the background while eating breakfast at a decent volume and my grandmother who was over for coffee almost jumped out of her seat when heard she the creepy scream. she immediacy asked me "what the hell are you watching, you scared the shit out of me" and then started laughing.
I have the weirdest fondness for this specific DVD-R Hell and I can't tell why, I just really like it.
My go-to DVD-r hell is "rock, it's your decision".
The difference in entertainment value between The Flintstones and this nightmare is perfectly analogous to Saturday and Sunday morning cartoons back in the day. I'm almost shocked it doesn't end with a proverb

If the Flintstones and Far Side’s caveman strips are like Superman and Watchmen respectively, then B.C. is more like Bibleman.

I was curious about the female character names, and just this August the Johnny Hart estate had them changed. Fat Broad and Cute Chick are now Jane and Grace, respectively.
I'd forgotten about this episode, and only in recent strip did B.C. get referred to be name. I always thought it referred to the setting.
It's great how it took until this year. Almost like this comic was so unfunny that this obvious problem with its female character names wasn't even worth people complaining about because nobody was reading it to complain about it.

I think you've got it all wrong. BC doesn't indicate that this is taking place in the stone age, it stands for Boomer Comic.

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Special? That had the best Thanksgiving meal ever because it's the only one that I can cook! Toast, popcorn, pretzels, and jellybeans.
The full special is on TH-cam complete with the original commercials along with another obscure gem called “Clerow Wilson and the Miracle of PS 14” with Flip Wilson where he made his appearance at the very beginning. Both of these specials were aired back in 1973 as it was first broadcast on NBC complete with the original commercials intact. Thanks to Obsolete Video for this rare find.

The only part that is missing, is the NBC “Laramie Peacock” variant where the voiceover says “And now, a special program in living color on NBC”, and then, the cavemen chased a turkey and ran away where the NBC name was on there, and finally, a caveman came in and hits the N and then, the start of the program. That variant was cut off from some home video releases of the special.

I have NEVER seen that Flip Wilson special before, but the animation was SO trippy. Hard top believe Depate-Freleng made something like this.

We just figured that was Brad's bad during editing and let it slide

Johnny Hart could produce some satirical and humorous cartoons (Wizard of Id), but it got overshadowed by his religious beliefs and those strips came off as narrow minded and mean spirited...and, well, NOT FUNNY. I haven't checked but I'm sure BC is still running as a "zombie" strip today.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, The Mayflower Voyagers with The Peanuts Gang, The Mouse on the Mayflower, and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles....that's all the ones I know.
You forgot the actually pretty good Garfield special where Jon has to call his Grandmother to cook for a date he managed to guilt out of Liz. I always felt that one was pretty underrated.
The Thanksgiving that almost wasn't
The 'Mayflower Voyagers With The Peanuts Gang' was from the mini series, 'This Is America, Charlie Brown'.
But mostly because ABC pairs it up with the regular Thanksgiving special.
Oh, that reminds me. Regular Show Thanksgiving special, though that's more or less a Thanksgiving episode, rather than a special.

My first pirated game was B.C.Quest for tires. Came from a yard sell in a floppy holder and I only bring that it because it was a helluva game to break the law over.
Razor 911 had made a very nice splash screen because the demo scene was real even for dumb games about dry comics.
Galloe funny, I had a pirated copy of the sequel, Grog’s Revenge. I could never figure out exactly what I was supposed to do other than fall off cliffs and get killed by Grog.
The game I played was dumb and while it said it was like a quest for tires I never made it far enough to see if it had a Good Year plug added just to be extra caveman or something dumb like that but that got me to thinking... What it that was the point? To fall off of a cliff and get beaten to death by Grog?
Like maybe super slow 80s and early 90s computer modems were not just made for Bulletin boards but also so that the BC games could be pirated? You paying for the games is the punch line, and pirating was the only answer to the question of their meaning and function.
@@jbleichman you had to collect enough clams in the cave to progress, I had both it and the first for C64 as a kid, for a young child in the 80's they were actually pretty fun and half way well made
I had that game for my Apple II.

The Fat Broad bit referencing the biggest piece of pie was actually saying that she cared more about food than either her date, or civility.

I live in Broom county. Where Johnny Hart is located. I have been to the house. Meet his son's that have taken over the company. Very cool. B.C. means Broom County.
This has been a family tradition as long as I can remember and all of the friends I've shown this to thought it was hilarious. It's not technically in the spirit of Thanksgiving, but it's hysterical.
I used to read the B.C. comic strip when I was a kid and I kind of enjoyed it. But this un-special special is painfully bad. I think that the only way you could watch this is if you were stoned.
Wal-Mart in 1973 seems anachronistic to me. I probably did't hear about that store until about 1990.

I was 5 when this came out and I don't remember ever seeing it, so it really must have tanked. By contrast, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is my favorite Peanuts holiday special 🙂
I used to read the comic collections in my library as a kid. While I generally liked some syndicated comics like Hagar and Beetle Bailey, BC was never that strong even compared to it's contemporaries, as it often strayed from its own theme and Johnny's cringey soap boxing didn't help things.
B.C sounds just like the Caveman from "Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur"...
Who was also doing a Jack Benny impression.

They're both 'fantasies', but everything that 'B.C.' did, 'The Flintstones' did it better.
10:16 Flintstones actually lived in the future, after an apocalypse, hence all the 21 century tech, but remade in simplier ways, also acknowledging holidays way after stone age.

At least this special was made before BC artist Johnny Hart became a born again Christian in the 1980s and began littering the strip with creationism and offensive comments about Jews and Muslims. Actually, if that was the case, it would have been a much more popular show, albeit for a specific audience.

He started to put evangelism in the comic strip in the 1980s but yeah.
You know... the REASON... "Fat Broad" sounds different at the end is because she and the turkey are doing a bad Laurel and Hardy impression. It's in line with the other bad impressions.

The Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special is my favorite because the first one is a relaxing episode about Charlie having to host an impromptu dinner, then the second cartoon is about them trying to desperately survive on the Mayflower wich has great music by the way.

@@defrozendonut8715 seems harder than I thought to find some examples. BC has been published in both swedish and english over here, as a form of language test, so even searching for "seriestripp sverige" or similar terms turn up mostly english versions.

jbiehlable ok, it a series made by the creator of samurai jack and sym bionic titan. The show is about a caveman name spear and a T. rex name fang, both trying to survive from their tragic past and the world around them.

The Spanish version of the C64 game is called Troglodita Clap. If you bought it you'd have the Clap.
3 Things:
1. I didn't know that the (nice 8 bit) game "B.C.'s Quest for tires" was based on comic/cartoon. There's also a Windows remake of it.
2. The turtle spoke german, saying "Gesundheit" meaning "health" but is said when somebody sneezes, so it here means the same as "bless you" in english.
3: That cartoon is soooo booooooooooooooooring! And also unfunny.

Actually, I think animation in the 70's was not profitable at all.
It also wasn't as profitable in the 60's, either.

The phone tree has balls, or cancerous tumors. In the 70s, psychedelic drugs made for strange ideas for cartoons. BC was never all that funny.
Not gonna lie I also though that the screaming in pain came from the fire. Thought the fire had come to life and would never have guessed it was the guy making the sound if the snob didn’t say it

i love the old classics and love BC comics and actually enjoyed this film in my childhood, this film suppose to be funny like all cartoons so i dont see any thing stupid
I never liked the Flintstones either. Just an animated rip-off of the Honeymooners set in prehistoric times.
Admittedly, the menorah strip is the only memorable thing ever to appear in B.C., so it had *that* going for it.
Most of the gags don't make sense but meh I think the special was ok

I watched this while watching the 1931 Dracula with its score. Philip Glass’ score doesn’t fit with this video.

There were quite a few comic series that I just never understood the appeal of. BC is one of those.
Of course now a days we have the perfect Thanksgiving tradition, even for eurotrash like me:
