    First off great channel!!
    My dad died of Covid in April, and I’ve decided to become a more hands on man, and I need to stay busy to try and deal with the trauma of it. Your videos and channel has given me a calm, collected way to approach life and staying busy to keep your mind off things. The craziest part, I haven’t even started my projects yet. I watch all your videos and for months now I think I’m ready to start something, when I can afford to order some of the product from you.
    Thanks again for what you do and helping me get through some tough times!

      Hey Blake this is Mitch. My condolences on your dad. I lost mine as well a year ago to cancer. I've taken the same approach with grief, work right through it. Some days are better than others. My dad and I worked on some river tables together and doing this work brings me closest and the most joy. I'd like to send you some materials to work with, I hope it helps. I'm so glad you guys advertise like you do on TH-cam. I found you while watching some custom woodworking channels. But I reached out to two other epoxy companies and they told me an epoxy coat on a sink couldn't be done.... you just told them "hold my beer!"

    • @alecb8509
      @alecb8509 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet the companies you called do outstanding work. The quality of this top is going to be mediocre at best. You can see the reflection of the backsplash and it has horrible orange peel. You would need to coat just the backsplash multiple times to bury the fleck texture. Then you would need to sand and sand and sand before the top coat. That would be the only way to get a quality mirror finish. No reputable company will spend the multiple days on site to do that. The companies that do will give you a substandard finish and take your money.

Pro tip on sink, brush the pooled epoxy back up to the sink rim until the epoxy starts to thicken a little and take time to sand any runs or ridges down between coats if you do more than one. Love the look. 2 questions I have about this.
    1) How do you ensure that the back splashes are the same thickness of epoxy as the counter top? Gravity says that it will never be that way without removing them.
    2) With the Rustoleum Granite spray, based on the caps, I thought that the color on the can was what came out of the can. I.E. gray cap with flecks vs clear coat with flecks. Didn't know that you had to have an undercoat paint.

      my cultured marble vanity top with 1 sink is 55" long by 22" wide and has a built in backsplash on the rear, and an option one on the left. Since the left backsplash is removable I will lay it on it's side, but the rear is another story, I'll let the epoxy run down and connect with the bottom epoxy. It's not a squared off built-in backsplash. It's rounded so it flows down to the horizontal plane at a slight rounded 90 degree angle (it's hard to explain, sorry). So that's what I will try to do, but I'm not sure if it will work. I'm looking for a video that they might have done with one like it.

      I just bought my 1st house and it was built 1996. So pink laminate counter tops. I have already painted them white high gloss, Restolum. Do I need to re paint them before stone spraying them and epoxy then or can I keep it high gloss white?

    Is that a NEW ultimate top coat? You now have a gloss finish? Does it lay down flat? Or is it slightly dimpled like the other mat finish? I’m very interested..

    There is quite a bit of orange peel in the final finish. Are you able to get a glass smooth finish or is that just they way it is? Possibly the paint specs, maybe another layer of epoxy.

    • @Iamk2jones
      @Iamk2jones ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can. But you need to sand with a fine grit sand paper. But that will make it the top hazy and you will need to polish it with a buffer or by hand. That is the only way to get a glass like finish I think.

    Great job Bro. 👍 Must be a tough sell asking the customer not to use their bathroom sink for 3+ days.

    • @SilverPonyKat
      @SilverPonyKat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. If you have 2 bathrooms- start with one of them and use the other bathroom. When that's done, switch. It's what I'm doing in my house now. One bathroom is out of commission while the other gets all fixed up. Easy enough

    Our cultured marble sink basin is cracked, which I believe is crazing. how do you recommend repairing the basin before applying epoxy?

    • @mitchquist
      @mitchquist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      U can use all purpose bondo, overfill the crack. Sand back smooth and now u r ready for the bonding primer step! Great question

    • @StoneCoatCountertops
      @StoneCoatCountertops  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mitch nailed it, patch it right up with some all purpose bondo, give the area a good clean, apply the mixed bondo. Over fill the crack then sand back flat and now you are ready to apply the bonding primer. Let me know if you have any further questions!

    • @gustavcrossbow2805
      @gustavcrossbow2805 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depends on the crack , you should use fiberglass cloth and epoxy, and underneath if you have access so it doesn't crack , bondo is not structural its crap

    • @stevecook661
      @stevecook661 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the crack is bad, I’d consider removal and going in with new. It’s so easy with MDF. Also then you can get a new style sink.

    I am personally not a fan of the stone spray, but that is just my personal taste, I'm sure the customer who chose it would not necessarily enjoy every choice in my house; however, I would bet it is fantastic for hiding any minor dirt or imperfections that might come from normal use in the future, so it is probably a great choice. I am enthused to see this application done on a sink like this that is part of the counter. These are super common where I live and this is so much more economical than having to replace everything.

  • @maggienavarro2649
