guy on youtube making foam cabinets for van life. Combining them could be a another market for you guys. super light strong cabinets that are beautiful. Plenty of different grades of tack spray available 3M has some.
Other than the one your brother did a couple years ago, do you have a video showing how to go around a window in a shower wall? And also type of shower pan to use. Need to keep this very inexpensive. Thanx for any ideas you can offer.
I'll do my shower pan tutorial asap. We'll be installing shower walls in a few weeks with a window in the middle of the panel. For the shower pan, I'm going to use a pre sloped foam pan from ardex or shlutter. Ardex has a really diy friendly sharkbite style drain connection. I'll use a thin layer of flooring epoxy about q oz per sqft, after thin setting the shower pan down and waterproofing. I'll broadcast small partical size colored quartz sand until the quartz stays dry. Next day, clean off all loose quartz sand, use a nylon brush or broom to knock off any loose quartz, and vacuum clean. Apply a very thin layer of polyaspartic top coat with added non skid additive or you can omit the top coat, the large test I did on pink foam just like this didn't have a topcoat, I placed it in front of our coffee maker at work. We've walked all over it with boots and shoes for 6 plus months, and it's still solid.
@@mitchquist thanks so much Mitch for the quick reply. I’ll look forward to the video coming. We did our kitchen counters with StoneCoat back in August 2022 and have really enjoyed them… 👍👍
Hi Mitch, a while back you made a video stating two different shower pans you like using and now I can't find that video. Could you possibly remember what those two pans were and do you recommend using shower pans over and above making your own? I know I saw your dad do that on one of the videos along time ago, but I'm in a mobile home and don't have the resources and really don't wanna spend the money because it is a mobile home. Thanks Mitch, hope this finds your well…pf
I am undecided, I want copper, blues and teal. But also want sparkling copper gold and rose for an outdoor table. Can't decide. To many greens and blues. Can you help?
What cleaning products can you use on this for either rust/soap grunge? I figure you can’t use anything abrasive, but what type of liquid shower cleaners?
If I was to make an outdoor shower at my fathers cabin. How well would this hold up outside/UV weather changes? Surely I would have to coat both sides of the foam with epoxy?
How do you adhere two panels to make one large panel? In another video, you mentioned contractor's masking tape. Is that the recommendation? Also, would you still recommend 1/2" foam if the finished panel needs to be made from two pieces of foam?
33:15 I noticed you don't usually wear your mask when you're doing the scuffing it up for the next coat. Aren't you still turning epoxy to dust there? And if that's the case shouldn't you still be wearing a mask?
Would a really good heat gun work instead of a propane torch? Propane does have oil in it and that could spit out into your epoxy causing issues such as bubbles I would think.
A heat gun also works, just not as well as the torch. We've been using it exclusively for years for removing bubbles but the heat gun does work well for pushing the epoxy around and creating unique effects.
We use 1/2-1in foam for the walls. This is a demonstration piece so I used thicker foam so I can haul it around better to home shows and stuff like that
Where do you get the 1/2" foam? I tried to find it but I couldn't. 😢 I just built a shower, and I used 1/2" MDF instead. It's heavier, and I've had to waterproof each piece front, back, and sides before I applied epoxy.
Good question; we do have an epoxy thickener powder that allows vertical application, and we have tutorials for that (link below), but without the thickener it would all run down the wall, and we've never used the thickener in a shower application. Our best method so far is using the foam panels. th-cam.com/video/MduyvmL1aZ4/w-d-xo.html
You could do it but it’d be best to use a real fiberglass instead of that mesh. I’d use 1708 mat, Total Boat 5:1 epoxy, wet both sides of the mat, lay out with chop side up, let it harden, 40grit sand relatively flat, then epoxy a 4oz vail fiberglass fabric to help smooth it out, cut it again 80grit, then, total boat epoxy fairing putty, skim it over the panel with a large drywall putty blade (like as big as you can get, like a flexisander), sand it flat in steps, 80, 120, 220. Then you can do this coloring process on a solid panel that can handle the vibration of being in a vehicle. Honestly, this guy makes designs in epoxy, he doesn’t make really make structural epoxy pieces. Watch boatworkstoday to learn how to make car and boat panels that will stand the test. Honestly, this stuff looks tacky to me, it’s like 80’s splatter art. It’ll go out of fashion soon, similar to epoxy river tables.
It sure would be nice if you folks provided "recipes" for your projects in writing....like "in this video we used: 4oz per sq foot of quick coat. Allow to dry for 4-24 hours. Sand 220, 3oz psf of Art Coat"...
Not dumb at all. He's converting square inches into square feet to figure out how much total epoxy he needs for his recipe of 3oz per square foot. There's 144 inches in 1sqft. You do length in inches times width in inches, then divide the total by 144 to get your square footage.

What cleaning products to use after install? Could not find colors on website!

Came here just to say this.
I have used an air compressor turned almost all the way down with an air gun. It allows a lot of control pushing epoxy around and fine feathering.
Very nice gave me confidence😊😊😊 to do my own project

@StoneCoatCountertops can this be done to a shower pan as well? If so, I'd love to see it!

Just wondering, spray adhesive wouldn't work to help hold mesh down for UTC so it don't "Humpty hump"?
I am undecided, I want copper, blues and teal. But also want sparkling copper gold and rose for an outdoor table. Can't decide. To many greens and blues. Can you help?
I just keep hearing “that’s what she said” 😂 that piece is beautiful! ❤❤❤❤
Do you think it’s possible to make a shower floor of polished pebbles with epoxy?? Im going to try
What cleaning products can you use on this for either rust/soap grunge?
I figure you can’t use anything abrasive, but what type of liquid shower cleaners?
Any products for kitchen countertpos without added scrubbing additives like comet or bar keepers friend.

Curious as well

I would also like to know about how to join panels to make a larger panel. I have a 5' wide wall and thinking about doing epoxy walls for the shower.
It looks very classy, Mitch! 👍 I was a bit bummed that the thumbnail was white marble, but the project wasn't.. 😢
Sorry for the click baity thumbnail, I'll get on the editors! 😂thanks for watching as always
@@mitchquist You're quite welcome!! 🤗
Fixed; thank you for the feedback 🙏
@@StoneCoatCountertops You are quite welcome! 👍 Thank you! 🤗
When you first started, I HATED THIS PIECE, but after you shmoozed it it looks, FANTASTIC!!!!
Can the shower walls be made from plywood instead of using the foam and mesh?
Also curious about that
How do you clean the finished product after applying on the bathroom walls
Good question
Any cleaner that doesn't have added scrubbing agents. Bleach spray, bathroom cleaners all safe.
@@mitchquist thank you
How do you attach 2 of the foam panels,to make it a 5 x 8 ,wich is the size of a shower back wall
try super 77 spray adhesive to keep the mesh down
Could you spray the ultimate top coat? And then remove the excess product with the dry roller?
Great question; do not spray the Ultimate Top Coat! It is strictly a roll-on product.
33:15 I noticed you don't usually wear your mask when you're doing the scuffing it up for the next coat. Aren't you still turning epoxy to dust there? And if that's the case shouldn't you still be wearing a mask?
Is it possible to secure the mesh to the foam by using a spray adhesive?
tried it, don't do it!... spray adhesive or any acetone will melt the foam board

How do you clean the drill mixer?
I’m wondering the same thing
Isnt it some kind of silicone?
3 oz per sq foot. More colors for the win
What did he clean it with at about 9:35 after sanding? Alcohol?
That's correct, alcohol cleans all the dust away and evaporates quickly. We use 91%, and also spray some on a wet epoxy surface for celling effects.
how do you attach a wood piece to the edge?
Bathroom flooring epoxy full into curbless shower?
What was the thickness of the foam you are using for the shower wall? It looks like it is over an inch.
We use 1/2-1in foam for the walls. This is a demonstration piece so I used thicker foam so I can haul it around better to home shows and stuff like that

What were you doing with the roller onto the loose tape?
De-fluffing
Removing lose fibers
What were you painting on the blue tape?
@DEC729 the tape was pulling the lose lint from the roller

Not dumb at all. He's converting square inches into square feet to figure out how much total epoxy he needs for his recipe of 3oz per square foot. There's 144 inches in 1sqft. You do length in inches times width in inches, then divide the total by 144 to get your square footage.
3 Oz per square ft
Enough
