best video of a boat cruising I have ever seen! They just let you hear the sounds and don't try and play music the whole time. Really enjoyed this, thank you!
Hi! Yes we are anchored off the main channel in a small cut just west of Zieglers Island in 25 ft of water.. Had the anchor alarm on last night and all went well. We love being here when the Sand Hill Cranes are around. There were thousands of them flying in last night at sunset. Are you in one of the houses up on the hill?
@freebirdonthegreatloop We are considering purchasing a 2007 carver 56 voyager. If you don’t mind, we have 2 questions. First, we have heard the Volvo Penta engines in this boat have a sensor problem and alarms go off frequently. Have you experienced this? Second, we have seen many Carvers doing the great loop but not much on these boats crossing to Bahamas and hopping to Caribbean. Have you taken yours in Atlantic? How does she handle 2-4 ft waves? Thank you!
We found the Volvo D12 engines on our boat to be very reliable and running great. The electronically controlled engines are very efficient at slow cruise. Our fast cruise is 1840rpm burning 33 gallons an hour, a very efficient fast cruise for a boat of this size. You can top out at 34mph if you need to get away from a storm. At idle the electronic controls keep the engines running very clean, unlike other diesels. All this being said, our boat is 100 percent fresh water, highly maintained with only 740 hours on the engines. She has never been in salt water but we boated all summer last year in Lake Michigan where she handled 5-7 ft waves fine. Look to our video crossing lake Michigan and another heading to Mackinac from Beaver Island where we encountered rough weather.
Yes, Freebird is powered by Volvo D12-675hp diesel engines. We’ve found them to be very reliable and efficient. We burn about 34gph at 24mph. Thanks for the question. 🛥
@@FreebirdonTheGreatLoop thank you. My wife and I currently have a Sundancer 460 with Cummins 480s but currently looking at 2006 Carver 560 voyager like yours with the same engines hence my question. I'm assuming it has plenty of space for you guys? Also, do you use the washer/dryer very much? How much fresh water does it use from the tank?
@@tlteal We moved up from a 44 Sundancer. It is way more boat and tons of storage everywhere. We miss the sleek look of the Sundancer and admire each one we see but we are happy to have the comfort this boat provides for living aboard. Maureen said she would never give up the separate washer and dryer for anything. It is so great to be able to put in a load and walk the town and come back to throw it in the dryer. We are so happy to not have to find a place to haul laundry back and forth. We use the washer and dryer when in a marina. You can easily do 4 or 5 loads a day. It uses a lot of water so we use it when hooked to shore water.
@@FreebirdonTheGreatLoop perfect! You're helping me with this critical info and I so appreciate it. I love the Sundancer 460... nice and wide, beamy boat but you're right, ti's not nearly as beamy and spacious as the 560 --- epecially if you're going to be spending that much time onboard. We are looking at living on board at least 6=8 months a year and doing some traaveling. Thanks again for all the info!
@@tlteal Glad to help. The Sundancer 460 is a really nice boat. The advantages you have is every Marina charges by the foot and you will save 10 ft with the 460 which can add up! 10 x 2.50 a ft is $25 more a night. Also easier to find a slip with your size. Another consideration is insurance. So if you can get by with what you already have...
I found that the wake coming off you Carver is memorizing... much more than most. Many are violent but yours are memorized... almost hypnotic!😮

Thank you Gord, One of my favortie views!
@@FreebirdonTheGreatLoop I can see why. I don't know what it is... but it is mesmerizing.

Thank you so much! I’m happy you enjoyed it!
Your 56 Carver Voyager looks like a REAL NICE boat.
Thank you. We are enjoying her!
Hey I see you across the river from the Hiawassee hope you are anchored...it's not very deep where you are.today is the 1/30/24

With the excuse of the health of the turbos!😊
Look to be around the Dayton, TN area.
You are right. Just a little north of Dayton.

Does this boat have the Volvo D12's? What is the fuel burn running 24/25mph?

it looks like you are on a boat that would make it nautical 26 knots
Thank you for watching! We have been able to get this boat up to 34 mph! Here is what it is like cruising at a nice speed of 24-25 mph.
Carver says the top speed is 30 knots.
Please putt a wind sock on the microphone.
We are trying some new microphones with wind reduction technology. Should be better on future videos. Thanks for watching.
