Hell yeah, man! I was also in attendance at several Ozzfest's in the late 90's. 2001 was my last one - my then girlfriend/now wife went to the car with a migraine in the middle of Black Sabbath's set... after the 3rd or 4th time we pulled over for her to puke on the way home, I realized she was pregnant. Seems like yesterday, but my son is 18 and heading off to college this year. Craziness.
Could you do a vid on type o negative some time i think they had some really underated sabbethy guitar work that would be awesome also i am a lead guitarist as well panteras set was the first time i heard dime and i was hooked anyways rock on and be safe and well out there brother
Wow! Good on you man. That’s sounds like a cool "you knew it when" story. I’m pretty sure I set my finger on fire on the tour they did with Slayer, and am reminded of that show ever since. I like your story better! You got you life’s best friend, I got a small scar😜
I only saw Pantera 3 or 4 times in a big venue and it always felt odd, I saw them in bars at least a 100 times, and Dime was so much more fun while he was running through the crowd and you could get up on the stage. Phil also had so much more range in the early days. But nobody will ever replace them, and as a band they were the best ever imho.
Your right, and there are insane guitarist around and there always will be, but not like Dime!! That crunch, that tone, that groove and those chops! 🙌🏼
Agreed, The day I heard Dime was murdered I was crushed. Probably one of the kindest fun loving people ever to live. Absolutely the heaviest metal guitarist ever. No doubt about that at all. He was the king
Guitarists getting their start the past 20 years or so have so many advantages in their favor its almost unfair. Guitar hero teaches basic playing, they dont have to buy multiple albums to hear their favorite guaitrists over and over..just check youtube..then tons of free tutorials online. Having said that..no modern guitarist can match dime when he was at the top of his game..RIP
How fucked up is it that both the Abbott brothers are already gone? These guys cut the trail for metal rise again from the whine fest in seattle and led the pack for years after...Shit. They saved my life more than once, just doesn't make sense...
We would be on the way to a show and I'm in my buddies ears going "can you fucking believe we are about to witness that shit in the flesh. Dime waving his magic wand all around. ... ... . .
Saw an interview about the history of this song, thought I’d share for those who don’t know. They had just finished recording the Cowboys From Hell album and Vinnie had packed up his snare drum but sat back down and started playing around on the kit without a snare. Dime walked by and heard it and they came up with that beginning riff on the spot, that’s why Vinnie doesn’t even touch his snare til over a minute into the song. They wrote the song really fast and added it to Cowboys From Hell at the last minute. Definitely one of the best songs on that album in my opinion.
@@Guitargate The Album version of this song has my *FAVORITE* snare strike of all time from any album. The one just before Dime goes off, at the end of the second verse..... Just pure perfection. To know this song started because he *didn't* have the snare is amazing to me.
I heard from Phil and Dime that the beginning riff was one of dimes vault riffs. Dime was notorious for writing riffs and catalogging them and playing them for people to try to get someone to bite on them. He started jamming the riff and they were all like meehhhhh then vinnie came in and they all went 😯 bit i like your story better
I saw Pantera with Deftones opening and Sabbath closing in '99 at the Sabbath Farewell tour at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The kid next to me passed me a joint, I took one hit. This song came on and holy shit.....
No shit , I was there too, that was my first concert. My dad had to go with me cuz i was like 16. Sucks the Deftones didnt play for some stolen equipment or something if i remember right. Sabbath Reunion tour 99 at the palace. Pantera played again at Cobo Arena with Morbid Angel and Slayer a couple years later too.
Was that the tour where all the band members from other bands came out to play Planet Caravan on bunch of bongos with Pantera? All those tours get mixed up in my memory, what bands at wich one etc.
The Abbott brothers were the epitome of true, tight, metal musicians. Never met the guys...obviously...but I've listened to them SOOO much they touched my soul. When Dime was taken from us...I cried. When Vinnie's heart gave out on him, I cried. I just had this HORRIBLE feeling he wouldnt make it long without his brother. He would never be able yo do what they did TOGETHER. The life they brought to the stage, and the beautiful, aggressive, unbelievable music they made for all of us will hopefully live forever! Fuk I miss them! Shed a tear, then shred a riff!!! Rock on brothers and sisters!
Malcolm Reynolds Michael Romeo is a fantastic player, and as the level of what he can play is above Dime. No doubt about that, but Dime and Pantera had the biggest meanest most aggressive sound out there. On top of that, killer riff after killer riff. They can’t be touched. Much different than symphony x, nothing against them. Great band, but just way different than pantera.
There is a killer DVD with all the home movies on one DVD. Very cool. Video quality is still shitty like the original VHS, but having all in one is cool. Quite a few extras too, getcha pull!

I come back to this video to see some appreciation from you on this song. Its such a great watch to see you show so much respect and educate at the same time. Love from the UK
I can just imagine Michael teaching a class of children and decides to teach them some riffs from Pantera and ends up thrashing the whole place and going nuts. xD Awesome video, great reaction.
Awesome to see your enthusiasm while watching THE MOST ICONIC METAL BAND OF ALL TIME! Hope to see more Pantera reactions on your channel. Plus I subscribed.
Dudes face every time he plays the video... I feel ya buddy! Also Death Metal Phil was my favourite era those screams make me wanna throw my chair through a window \m/.
I just started listening to your page I’m 47 years old and I’ve been listening to Pantera for so long and your face when you listen to that in your facial expression makes me so happy because it’s the same shit I do and I love it you’re an OG if I had a week Ihave it. Thank you so much for your damn excitement when you hear something that’s fucking legendary I’m from Texas and these boys on my shit thank you bro
This is by far my all time favorite pantera song.... hands down. And you react exactly the same way I do everytime I hear this masterpiece, lol love it. When I listen to Dimebag play it brings tears of joy and also pain for our lost brother. Thank you for posting this it totally made my day 👍🤘
Dude, you know your shit on that guitar. I'm always impresed by people who understand their instruments. And you are a master. Love watching your pantera reactions, remind me of my dad. He was big pantera fan in the 90s. Still is.
"The man of a thousand retirements, will always be the one to tell you when to quit" ..I always loved that line. Phil's range and technique matched Dime's (and especially Vinnie in this song) legendary playing. Legends Forever Abbott Brothers!! 🤟
I think one of the things that made Pantera connect with fans so well was that Dime's biggest fan was always singing next to him on stage. Whenever Dime would "get into it," Phil turned into a fan just like the rest of us, and stepped back and enjoyed the show.
Dude...I just want to say that I love the look on your face when you're shredding those riffs- as someone who lived and breathed Pantera growing up and got to see them when they were around- seeing the happiness and excitement in your face just over Dime's riffs just made my day! It really shows that you're "feeling" the music and that's what made the greats great- they didn't just play chords they played with FEEL and that makes all the difference. I challenge anyone to find a guitarist who wrote more complex and legendary riffs than Dime or as you mentioned briefly, Dave Mustaine. Loved the vid too, keep shredding buddy!
I've never once seen a video of yours...and for that sir I sincerely apologize! You now have a new subscriber! Your enthusiasm and pure love for pantera has won my heart lol ❤ 🤘
I first started watching ur dead videos because I wanted to get more into them but then I saw u do pantera who I was already into and now I just watch every video big fan
So beautifully brutal! Love it! Some of my fave riffs are Pantera ones, cuz they feel so good under your fingers. True masters of metal! Thanks, Michael.
after almost 30 years. this is always probably the favorite of their entire catalog. something about the pure thrash and the main solo. if i wanted to show someone what pantera was truly about, this is the song. cemetery gates was the bs pop song of pantera. 5 minutes alone, walk, and those were too commercial. you want to know TRUE pantera it's this, floods, drag the waters..... it's the dirty, gritty, down right filthy metal.
It was January 1992 and I was 19. My brother and I went to a Skid Row concert and Pantera was the opening act on their Vulgar Display of Power tour. We had never heard of them before they took the stage. After that set, they totally changed my taste in music from that point going forward. I was extremely blown away and left wanting more. When Skid Row came on stage and Sebastian Bach started singing, I just couldn't get into it after watching and listening to Pantera. We didn't stay for their whole set and left shortly after that. Was forever a Pantera fan when we left that night!!!
Great video! Beautiful Guitar!! Love seeing others who geek out on the Abbott Brothers as much as I do. They truly were "Goddamn Electric" They were unbelievable song writers together, and tighter than 2 coats of paint live.
Was fortunate enough to see the mighty PANTERA 6 or 7 times and just last year shared the stage with Phil and the Illegals, the last 30-45min of their set was Pantera. Those Pantera shows were some of the best times of my life. Every show was a memorable experience, from the sheer tightness of them as musicians to the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd......Pantera fans were and are some of the most diehard I've ever seen. This was when there was etiquette in the pits, you caught the person stage diving and the classic our stage is your stage attitude of Pantera. Miss those days and hate that the younger generation will never get to experience them live. RIP Dime and Vinnie. Cheers to you both for giving myself and so many others great memories and music that will live on forever......
I’m 50 and a guitarist since 13. I lived behind the Charlotte Colosseum ( the original one) and have seen every show you can think of. ( sneaking in was an art!! ) but when I saw Pantara play at The basement in Dallas on a trip in I think 1990, that was it !! Hooked. Saw em at masquerade in Atl then we tore up Plum crazy’s in Charlotte. Saw them later that year at a little club called Blow out Then the 3 skid row shows. And every oz fest !! Truly one of my guitar heroes !!! RIP Dime !!!
I’ve been watching your newer stuff for awhile and I’ve stumbled on your older metal videos and I’m so glad you cover such a wide range of guitar playing, from colter wall to pantera your crushing it with the content. I don’t play but I like watching your videos to appreciate all the nuances. Please keep up the good work and stay covering the wide range stuff. More metal would be awesome but I’m not complaining
For those of you who never got to see Pantera LIVE,I’m so sorry. They were unbelievably amazing 🤘. I can’t even put into words how awesome it was to feel that beat interrupt your heartbeat. Loudest band I’ve ever experienced.
Love your videos man!! It brings me joy to see you be so into the groove🤣 I'm the same way, the looks I get from the wife and kids... priceless!! Still remember the first time I heard Pantera as an angry 13yr old it was life changing🤟 also would love to hear you do a breakdown of tom morello one day?
Really love your reactions. Love see you so excited. It’s infectious and really enjoy it! Also like you on the guitar. Something unique in the reaction-tube. Thanks for your content!
Bro the expressions on your face are priceless lol. Pantera does that to me too bro. Dimebag and that riffer madness!!!! He set the bar to unattainable lol.
Standing in front of Dime front row watching him shred is what turned me into a metalhead for life, and also motivated me to learn to play. His riffs changed metal forever. Awesome vid man, dig your style. GETCHA' PULL
Oh man I just love pantera!! Saw them when I was 12 with slayer and static-x on the reinventing the steel tour, so glad I got to see them before dime was thoughtlessly murdered on stage. There’s a special place in hell for people like that. R.I.P. Dimebag we miss you!!
Dime was and still is my guitar hero!! I got to meet him before he was taken away from us. One of the best experiences of my life!! PanterA will always rule!! Right on dude!! You did a great video!! 👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hell yeah we are same age and back in the 90s Pantera ruled my stereo and amps. My buddy(our drummer) typed out the lyrics to "good friends and a bottle of pills" well his mom found it and immediately signed him up for counseling!😂😂 We drove our parents nuts "shredding" these riffs in the barn.
The drums portion at 10:58, I think Vince and Dime called that galloping. It's like a western, horse type gallop lol, idk they just fit everything sooo well. The abbots are amazing man. If you haven't been to their resting place yet, go visit, pay respects to them. Miss those guys.
I love this analysis my friend! Def you need to challenge yourself with the art of shredding !! I think it's the one of the most underrated songs they have and also that intro riff omg!! Especially the live version of the demo version!! It's insane !!!
I love this video so much. I get chills every time I hear this song and watch that live video - I love the passion and "f*ck yeah" that you know we all share when we hear it. I'm trying to practice this song but those fiddly bits are just too... fiddly. I wish I were better at guitar! Lost my touch nowadays...
I love watching your videos.....especially you witnessing Dimes greatness. I live in his hometown and visit the Abbott bros. quite often cause they are buried in the same cemetary as my aunt & uncle and grandparents. Got tons of photos......they go all out in the holidays. Even in death they live to excess. Got quite a few ozzfests in my belt too. 97,98,99, 00, and 01 but my favorite concert was in summer of 96 at the coca cola starplex.....Pantera with White Zombie which just so happens to be the last real tour WZ did. I've seem rob 3 times but it doesnt hold a candle. I've played guitar for 24 years now but I don't play much any more. Have issues with my hands as I get older so I have to live vicariously through people like you. It really sucks sometimes but thats life. Rock on guy cause I can't anymore
In my opinion, Pantera is 1 of the only bands of this genre to be timeless!! I still listen to their albums periodically and its just as awesome now as it was 20 to 30 years ago!!! There is only a few other bands I listen to and feel the same way about!! RIP Dimebag and Vinnie Paul!!!
HAVEN'T EVEN WATCHED THIS YET BUT I LOVE DIME AND THE WHOLE PANTERA CREW!! ONE OF MY FAVORITE PANTERA TRACKS IS THIS SONG I FOUND LIVE ON A BOOTLEG AND THEY RIPPED THE CROWD A NEW GAPING POOP CHUTE THANKS FOR SPREADING THE LOVE FRIEND!! who says a hippie can't like hardcore!? Michael you are more and more working up to being on my list of 'people to send christmas cards' or rather 'people to not deliver a flaming bag of poo' every day! you've still got some time though so we'll see. ;-)
First time finding you channel! I must say that I love you passion for the music and what you are experiencing. I can see it on your face!! I will, hopefully soon, get my guitars out of retirement and start playing. I miss it so much, but life situations just do not allow it right now. Jam on and I will look forward to more videos!!
I'm so grateful I was finally able to see them here in NY in 01' .. would've never known it would be their last tour but, I'll always remember it as the TIGHTEST show I've ever seen in my 40 years. RIP Dime & Vinny ✨🤘🏻

Of course there will be. Plenty of insane guitarists now.
To say the least.
Your right, and there are insane guitarist around and there always will be, but not like Dime!! That crunch, that tone, that groove and those chops! 🙌🏼
True story, Zakk is probably the next best but there’s a big gap.

I love how fucking excited this guy gets in his reactions. His passion for everything in the music just ERUPTS from within and I love that shit.
Yes!!!!!
Love your reaction to Phil's demonic vocals. "It's just so heavy".. "OUUUGGHHHHLLL" lol
I truly hate it for those less fortunate but.....only a little
Pantera is like feeling the warm sun after a cold day , feels so good everytime .
Best Pantera reaction vid I've seen. You love them as much as everyone else does! Props man 👍
Thanks Adam!
The pitch harmonics before the solo are crazy and makes it sound like an T rex roaring gives me goosebumps everytime!! Love it
Pantera live was like no other band ever, just listening to Dime make that guitar scream gives you chills.
Fact
Love your videos man!! It brings me joy to see you be so into the groove🤣 I'm the same way, the looks I get from the wife and kids... priceless!! Still remember the first time I heard Pantera as an angry 13yr old it was life changing🤟 also would love to hear you do a breakdown of tom morello one day?
Really love your reactions. Love see you so excited. It’s infectious and really enjoy it! Also like you on the guitar. Something unique in the reaction-tube. Thanks for your content!
Pantera live was something special. Feel lucky having experienced them live. Phil enhanced the energy of songs with random screams.
More channels need your enthusiasm! Contagious!
Bro the expressions on your face are priceless lol. Pantera does that to me too bro. Dimebag and that riffer madness!!!! He set the bar to unattainable lol.
Gooooddddd thanks for using this live version!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I absolutely LOVE how hard your throwing theory at this masterpiece. You know Dime ain't a Guitar nerd like Vai. Cheers from South Texas
Lucky bugger, that tour was insane. Caveman Phil was the icing on the cake.
I met Dimebag at a Slayer, Black Label Society, and Judas Priest show in Houston. Dude was tiny. Shocked the hell out of me. RIP Dime!
Lol
I was told he was like 5ft something
It was the last song they wrote for Cowboys From Hell and they did it last second too. Last second and whiffed up one of the heaviest songs ever.
When you listen to this song through headphones walking down the street, people tend to walk around you in a wide arc. Even before Covid...
First time viewing your channel , I have the same reaction to pantera . Dime was amazing
It gives me goosebumps to watch you react and feel the same way i do every time i listen to it.
when you rage out, that's what I look like driving listenin to pantera...long live the kings!
Love this video bro!!! The excitement you show for music is absolutely infectious 🎸🔥 I had to subscribe. You made me wanna learn even more
Love it. Thanks brother!
This dude should just call himself a shredder. Guitar teachers aren't this good.
Haha I loved your video dude. Every expression of your face listening to Pantera is exactly how most of us feel haha right on brother!!
The drums portion at 10:58, I think Vince and Dime called that galloping. It's like a western, horse type gallop lol, idk they just fit everything sooo well. The abbots are amazing man. If you haven't been to their resting place yet, go visit, pay respects to them. Miss those guys.
I haven't. But I will. Thanks!
I love this analysis my friend! Def you need to challenge yourself with the art of shredding !! I think it's the one of the most underrated songs they have and also that intro riff omg!! Especially the live version of the demo version!! It's insane !!!
Love this shit!...been a Pantera fanatic since '93....awesome video my man!
Boom!
I personally think Dimebag was the best Metal guitarist. The control he had over his instruments, amazing.
I love that you tell the truth in the power of the music for which it is
Love it man my favorite CFH song PanterA
Love you, just because I see you fucking lovin pantera like I do: they were to good to be true ♥️🤘
11:14 only pantera can you feel like that
HAVEN'T EVEN WATCHED THIS YET BUT I LOVE DIME AND THE WHOLE PANTERA CREW!! Michael you are more and more working up to being on my list of 'people to send christmas cards' or rather 'people to not deliver a flaming bag of poo' every day! you've still got some time though so we'll see. ;-)
I enjoyed watching how excited you kept getting.
First time finding you channel! I must say that I love you passion for the music and what you are experiencing. I can see it on your face!! I will, hopefully soon, get my guitars out of retirement and start playing. I miss it so much, but life situations just do not allow it right now. Jam on and I will look forward to more videos!!
I’ve watched a bunch of your videos, this is the one that made me subscribe.
Love this and love you!!
I can remember getting this album i just put it on repeat for 6 months.
I'm so grateful I was finally able to see them here in NY in 01' .. would've never known it would be their last tour but, I'll always remember it as the TIGHTEST show I've ever seen in my 40 years. RIP Dime & Vinny ✨🤘🏻
I LOVE how hard you geek out watching this video cuz I feel the same when I listen to Pantera! 🙌🖤🔥🤘🔥💪🔥👊
Excellent video, you seem to really appreciate just how special Dime and Pantera really were 🤘🤘
