Good video. We just got an Ultrex and Target Lock. You made that part easy. I hope you have more videos for the rest of the installation and Target Lock.
Thank You! I just got done installing an Ultrex on my 1875 Pro-V Bass XS after watching this video about 38 times... :) At least. Took a lot of guesswork out of the equation and I appreciate the time and effort ya'll took putting this content together. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Appreciate it, Andy is an excellent rigger and did a good job walking through the process. We've actually used internally at W2F for some of our DIY installs.
While Installing by myself, it was easier to attach the motor to the bracket in the deployed position, per the instruction book. If I had more experience, it may not have been the case but as a rookie, it was easier and helped me see what i was supposed to be lining up. Your video help me a lot though. Thank you
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
YOU DETAIL IS EXCELLENT REALLY APPRECIATE THIS VIDEO, WHAT ABOUT THE SMALL BLACK WIRE COMING OUT OF THE TROLL MOTOR HEAD WHAT IS THIS WIRE FOR AND WAT DOES IT CONNECT TO
Great video. Thank you very much. Question: Can the stabilizer bar be mounted outside and rest on an aluminum gunwale (Ranger RT188)? Sounds like you would have done that if not for the 360 unit, but the instructions show the bar resting on the deck not the gunwale. Would like to avoid the bar crushing a fishing rod. Thanks.
I’m trying to install the old tracks on a tracker Targa 18. It doesn’t fit flush on the bow of the boat. Any recommendations on where to place the bolts through the mound?
Not only the wiring, I guess it still 36V , you can use a standard plug? How about calibration of the head unit taking of the plastic covers and how to?(Step by step?)
Can you make another video about how to connect up to the helix? I have a helix 9 with a Terrova and link and US2. I just don’t know how to connect both to my helix 9.
@@tlalexander3 yes, I connected it to my fuse box . On the Phoenix boat its in rod locker. They made the cord really long which is good. It's really simple.
Great video, going to make my install very simple by watching this video. I was wondering though. With a 2019 nitro z-18 will I have to change out any wires or breakers to the boat for a ultrex mdi I-pilot link? Seen some others are having to change out the breakers. Being a newer boat I wouldn’t think I’d have to but want some advice from someone that’s obviously been doing it for a while.
Hi Matt, glad it was useful for you. The Ultrex should be hard wired directly into the trolling motor batteries -- inline fuses protect the Ultrex. We don't have access to Andy today (video host), so not sure what the answer is on wiring the heading sensor into the NMEA network. Here's a link to the heading sensor installation guide, not sure if this will answer the question: minnkotamotors.johnsonoutdoors.com/sites/johnsonoutdoors-store/files/product/minbowmountl3/1082332/ProductManual/MIN_productmanual_Heading-Sensor.pdf?_ga=2.173051045.744631159.1546355112-2002314155.1546355112
You can hardwire the Ultrex but you will need a switch at the battery. You will need to make sure and use 60amp breakers at the batteries as well. The heading sensor/ electronic compass can use any 12 volt power source. Better to mount the sensor away from electronics and ferrous metals.
It depends, the Helix units require an AS-EC-QDE 720074-1 adapter from Humminbird. If you look on Minnkotamotors.com search link compatibility and it will bring up a page that also shows which units need the adapter.
What mounts did you use for the solix units up front? I have a pro v bass as well and will be mounting all of this on it. Only using one 15 inch up front however. Didn't know if mounting on the plate up front would hold a unit as big as the solix 15.
Hi Luke, I worked with Randy, owner of Precision Sonar (precisionsonar.com/contact/). He had the Pro-V console system already in production but we worked together to build this initial bow stack custom to the 1875 and 2075 Pro-V Bass. It is absolutely perfect for the boat, and the Ultrex cable steers neatly clear of it to the left side. We did do one small mod for additional reinforcement of the bow plate. PM on facebook if you go this route and I'll gladly pass along that info. - Ryan DeChaine
Why you did not check magnetic field before installing BT compass sensor? We usually do and - we do not install compass near electronics just because of magnetic field alike units, bunch of electricity wires etc. Please reply :)
We used a military lensatic compass before placing the compass and didn't have any interference with the chosen location. Would have been good to add this piece of content to the video. Thanks and noted for down the road.
Could you explain the compass placement and acronyms (BT) in easier terms (lensatic). I am going to install mine tomorrow. Also, I am connecting to an 1159. I do not understand the need for a second transducer. Is it simply because I have an older unit. I would think the Ultrex would come with the capability to show SI and DI. Thanks in advacne
Good video bad product I hate my ultrex with a passion. I love how in calm water it “hunts around “ so much your positive you scared off all the fish. Did I mention it’s loud? The prop sounds like a industrial drill press. But only at 3 or above it goes to 10. This is much quieter compared to the motor that controls the steering . if your not totally convinced you scared off the fish this will finish the job. And why not you only paid 2500 for the motor what do you expect? The shaft creeks louder than a hundred year old rocking chair and the power switch fails every year! The spot lock is a loose term more like horse shoes and handgrenades close. But seriously I like the foot pedal so it has that going for it. Don’t even get me started about they’re talon’s with sometimes Bluetooth sometimes not. Who needs consistent working shallow water anchors anyway? Save yourself the time and aggravation and take back the ultrex get anything else and you’ll be better for it.
I’d put a couple hand holes for transport and use a box with a seam going lengthwise down the side. Nobody wants to run a razor knife into a cable on their new $3k equipment

Really appreciate the comment Ken. Always rewarding doing the work yourself, so good job gettin' after it on this DIY project.
One of the best install videos I’ve seen, great job.

SS anti seize works as well. Great video, thanks
Just FYI, you can prevent galling of the stainless steel hardware if you put some anti seize on the threads of the bolts before you tighten them.
Great video!
Great video a lot of help thank you
Not only does it cost too much money but you have to put it together, Keep it.
Thanks. Installed mine today. Video helped a great deal.
Would have been nice to see the power wireing
Thank you for putting on youtube, going to install mine now!
Good deal Paul n Kim. How'd the install go for you?
@@Wired2Fish It went as smooth as butter. Got to take it out several times now, and there is NO comparison on the market. Truly the best money spent.

The Ultrex installation manual says the mounting bolts and locking nuts are 1/4-20 not 10-24. Great instructional video.
Thanks for the clarification Ron.

What length ultrex did you install on that 2075?
Is the hole pattern for the fortrex and the ultrex mount the same or will I be drilling new holes?
I refuse to use lock nuts with nylon never always use red Loctite if I have to
So..I just took my fortrex off. Wouldn't it be easier to install the base before putting the shaft on?
I was thinking that too, did you confirm this before I do this?
does the ultrex I pilot link come with the dongle cable that hooks to the hummingbird

SOLIX install please.
What bow mount stabilizer kit did you use for the Ultrex?

What would you say is the total amount of labor time required to remove and replace when going from a Fortrex to Ultrex?
We're guessing most riggers would be around 2 hours for this job. Start to finish.
how would you improve the packaing? looks like it is cumbersome..
