The opening lick to "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" sounds really cool also. It is a double-slide (alternate-picked) back and forth on the G and B strings between the 2nd and 4th frets. Very simple once mastered, but it sounds amazing. 😊
Amen, Brother! Could not have said it better myself. A Band full of brilliant musicians, and one of the best singing drummers ever. So melodic. So powerful. They put it all together, and they were amazing. Still are, really. But I love that original line-up.
Gotta love Night Ranger! The Ferrari sound effect also sounds a lot like the Star Castle arcade game from the 80s. It is the dominant arcade game sound in the movie "Tron." Good Stuff!😊
FINALLY!!!! 🙂 Jeff Watson is very precise. It's like what you'd get if Eric Johnson played with heavy distortion. My favorite Brad Gillis trick is to repeatedly tap the low E onto the pickup as you dive the bar. Gives it a George Jetson spaceship sound. He ends the solo to "Big Life" with that. Now it's time for another Vito Bratta video. 🙂 I love his staccato playing in the solo for Sweet Little Lovin.
Great vid and content. Thanks for doing this one. Night Ranger is one of my all-time favorite Bands, and to me.... one of the most under-rated Bands of rock history. Those guys were all Monster musicians and singers. Incredible talents. Just am amazing collection of musicians and song-writers that were able to put it all together. Jeff Watson is one of my all-time favorite guitarists.
David, you have a real knack for choosing interesting topics, I saw NR open for someone I can't recall and would never have thought of these nice lick details like you do and breaking them down. Excellent. Thank you!
Was always a Night Ranger fan. I love how those two would play off of each other. And I agree, you could always tell who was playing the lead. Great lesson. Thanks Dave.
I noticed right away back in late 1982 with Ozzy’s live album Speak of the Devil that Brad Gillis had talents that were unrivaled, as well as Jeff Watson, although Brad’s playing to me was more intense and adventurous. At the same time, the debut of Night Ranger’s debut album Dawn Patrol was released, and from the airing of their show in Hollywood at the Palace, I was hooked, just like many of us longtime fans. Still to this day that album holds up. Thanks for the tutorials.
Love the 7 Wishes album back there in the frame. That Japan 1983 is so great. I remember watching it on MTV back when it came in and had it on VHS tape for years. Great lesson.
I also saw Night Ranger in November 1985 during the Seven Wishes tour in Rochester NY. I remember Jeff was playing a guitar, I think a white Flying V, that had these tiny lights at the fretboard markers. The whole band was fantastic.
My first real Rock concert. Early Summer 1984, Six Flags over Atlanta - they were pretty damn awesome, made a huge impression on me. I'll always love those first 3 Night Ranger albums. The popular music scene at that time : 1983-early 1985 , was some of the best music of all time. Back when Rock N Roll was still mainstream .
I love twin axe attacks, Night Ranger had that. A perfect blend of melodic rock mixed with shredding. I've seen Night Ranger many times. Great band all around. I just saw an interview with Watson, wish he was still in the band. I remember when Brad got with Ozzy, I was too young (a teen) to understand what a huge challenge that must have been for him. Imagine being called off the bench to do that gig. Who could pull that off? Brad did.
That last lick still gives me nightmares. In my high school garage band, the other guitarist had a whammy bar and I didn't, so he claimed all the Brad Gillis solos and stuck me trying to muddle through all those terrifying speed-picked Jeff Watson licks that were (and still are) soooo out of my league. I figured out how to tap most of his Don't Tell Me You Love Me solo or I'd never have been able to pull it off.
I love your tone by the way. Don’t know why but so many TH-cam players sound shrill and I always figured it’s TH-cam and cheap speakers on my end. Anyway love the videos and great playing!
1983 was such a sweet spot for rock guitar before it got a bit over the top, (Not that I didn't love it at the time lol). Great lesson, as always, thanks Dave!!
I saw the band as a three piece with Brad, Kelly and Gary Moon on bass/vocals. The original band had broken up and Brad and Kelly were carrying on with the NR name. This was around 1995 I think. They were touring for Feeding Off The Mojo. That’s a great record and while not “Night Ranger” as we know it, it’s freaking killer. They probably should have gotten a new name for the band. Brad shreds all over it and covered Jeff’s parts live. Eventually I think they hired a touring guitarist to share duties, but that night it was all Brad and what an absolute badass he was.
As always another awesome piece of content! How about some Jason Bieler next? His guitar work in Saigon Kick is absolutely amazing! Or Pete Lesperance is a good pick. Both are VERY underrated players, especially Pete. I haven't heard a Harem Scarem solo I didn't like.
My favorite guitarists of all time. Their solos on Rumours In The Air are what made me pick up the guitar. The early 80’s were the golden years for rock guitar as far as I’m concerned. Maybe one day you can touch on Neil Geraldo, Paul Dean, and Sammy Hagar/Gary Pihl? Those bands all fit well with Night Ranger.
You'll have to search around on YT to find his instructional video, but it's on here somewhere. I think the Ferrari trick is somewhere near the beginning of the video. Good luck! : )
Finally you made a Brad Gillis lesson. There is a live concert of Brad Gillis with Ozzy that is not speak of the devil its doing all ozzy first and second album songs its amazing how Gillis uses this pitch shifting delay in stereo with the whammy bar tricks. It use to be on youtube but was taken down but keep looking for it. I prefer guitarist that have feeling like Paul Warren which most people don't know about but Paul Warren has a lot of feeling in the camp of Gary Moore.
The opening lick to "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" sounds really cool also. It is a double-slide (alternate-picked) back and forth on the G and B strings between the 2nd and 4th frets. Very simple once mastered, but it sounds amazing. 😊
Your videos are great. Jeff and Brad don’t get enough love
Massively underrated as players and a band. Night Ranger were and still are fantastic and both Brad and Jeff are monsters as you said!!
Amen, Brother! Could not have said it better myself. A Band full of brilliant musicians, and one of the best singing drummers ever. So melodic. So powerful. They put it all together, and they were amazing. Still are, really. But I love that original line-up.

My first real concert was the 7 Wishes tour. Just packing my gear for my cover gig tonight, a couple NR songs in our set always. Love your channel 🤘🏻
Always loved the lead by Brad in Don't tell me you love me. Amazing. Also, the lead he played in Hear N Aid was also amazing. Great vid. Thanks
Hear N Aid's We're Stars is a great jam. I've been hopped up on that video for a couple years now. Just such a great guitar solo fest!
Absolutely one of the best guitar tandems that ever graced a stage. Thank you for sharing these techniques with us.
FINALLY!!!! 🙂

Thank you so much for taking the time to work on these videos and sharing them with us. I always look forward to the next video.
Guys who were lucky enough to see Nightranger live you really were blessed. Looking forward to this episode. Cheers maestro 🤘 😎
and girls
@@kurdtacolbain731 My apologies. Very Sorry
@@jayboy6895 it's ok. Thanks
I saw them in 85 and the two of them were phenomenal together!
Great episode! Love these guys playing. I was lucky enough to catch them in concert several times in the 80’s. They always blew me away.
This was awesome David. As always, thanks for taking the time to do this!
Thank you sir!!
🤘🤘✌🖖
Horns up, peace, live long and prosper!!
David, you have a real knack for choosing interesting topics, I saw NR open for someone I can't recall and would never have thought of these nice lick details like you do and breaking them down. Excellent. Thank you!
David, good choice giving a little love to this underappreciated guitar duo! Thank you!
As always, a great lesson!
Was always a Night Ranger fan. I love how those two would play off of each other. And I agree, you could always tell who was playing the lead. Great lesson. Thanks Dave.
Jeff is such a great player, thanks for that last lick!

Two excellent guitarists!!!!! Thanks, David! Great Lesson!!!!
I learned a ton from these two players…
Thanks for breaking it down as always Dave
You do such a great job cheerz and keep on👍
Love the 7 Wishes album back there in the frame. That Japan 1983 is so great. I remember watching it on MTV back when it came in and had it on VHS tape for years. Great lesson.
Great job. I saw Night Ranger sometime around 2007, they were opening for,… can’t remember. I was so impressed with the guitar playing at that show.
I have both the Jeff and Brad Star Licks videos on VHS. Both the solos they do at the beginning of the videos are so cool.
Great post LNL ! Love your style. You play so well too. Very pleasant to watch. Cheers...Tucson, AZ.
I also saw Night Ranger in November 1985 during the Seven Wishes tour in Rochester NY. I remember Jeff was playing a guitar, I think a white Flying V, that had these tiny lights at the fretboard markers. The whole band was fantastic.
Great duo of players right there. I also recommend Watson’s Tone Ranger solo album he had some great guests guitarists on that album. Thanks 🍺’ski!🤘

Great lesson. Hitchhiked to Savannah GA. to see them in the early 80s.
Forgotten knowledge from the 80s :) Thanks man !!
Always excited to see that you put out another video. Such cool stuff!

Twin axe attacks would be a great name for a new series
EXCELLENT ! THANK YOU !
Very interesting, didn't know these guys, thanks.
Nice. Love Night Ranger. Still trying to learn how to play some of their stuff. I'm new to guitar so a bit much to work on right now.
Another good one Dave!

Jeff's solo album has some great cuts on......and Allan Holdsworth! Great lesson 👍

Brad said he was the 3rd guy to put a floyd in his guitar. Eddie first of course, then Neal Schon
Sweet

do you have a link for the ferrari clip, please ?
thx 😉

Jeff is such a badass

Violin players do stuff like that since centuries!
Ronnie Montrose used that effect on GAMMA Razor King solo
Isn't Brad using an E Bow on the second live extract ? I think, not sure...
Brad did fill in for Randy BUT!!! He only played sabbath songs and they put out a album called speak of the devil. 🎸💚👊💨☕
🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Jeff Watson was born with 8 fingers. 😂😉🙌🏼
Really sad how they fired Jeff Watson from Night Ranger.......
Sounds like electric violin.
