    FYI (and I’m sure someone else mentioned this) - The light test continuously runs through signal lights/brake lights/etc so you can physically go outside behind the trailer and check them….. rather than putting your turn signal on manually and going check… having someone else check.. etc

    • @diamondhead203
      @diamondhead203 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Billybob50119 well, it’s fine if you plan on replacing your truck often. The main factor to consider is that gas engines even within specs is their longevity. Gas engines when towing after around 100k-150k typically need major engine repair. Where your typical Diesel engine pulling within its specs …you’re looking at 250k-300k miles before major work. For $10k more when buying a truck….you’re getting more power, better fuel, and better longevity out of your engine. I’m not sure why everyone is afraid these days of diesel engines. If you stay on top of your maintenance…..let the engines regen properly…they are way more dependable than gas. I have owned many diesel trucks and wouldn’t trade my current diesel for anything. 2022 Ram 3500 Cummins.

    I'm a GM fanboy so I'm anxious to see the real test of towing your 5th wheel up a steep grade with the gasser. I'm curious to see if it will maintain speed while climbing a 6% or steeper grade. I towed my 8k travel trailer with a 21 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi and it did well pulling a steep grade but the engine was screaming the whole time and got 8.5 mpg. Also, I think it would be beneficial to show off the trailer light test in more detail. It will ruffle the RAM/Ford fan boys feathers even more when they see that you can test every trailer light without having to walk back and forth several times.

      @thunderhorse689 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UnravelingMysteriesX I love it so far. I drove an F250 with the 7.3 and it just felt like a tank compared to the GM vehicles. Steering and handling is so much better. As JB says, the 6.6L gas isn't super fast, but it's so smooth with the new 10 speed. The interior is great as well with the refresh. Only issue I've had is that one instance of the sound cutting out, but restarting the stereo fixed it and it hasn't happened again. Fingers crossed...
      But I think the gasser would be perfect for your use and that size trailer. We tow a fair amount in the summer, but not enough to justify the ~$10k more for a diesel (with all its maintenance and emissions nonsense).

    Ya even with the bed camera it's not always easy, just easier. Not sure if I like Ford's implementation where they have a target line that you visually line up to where the pin should be, or GM's where they just let you see the pin so that a line isn't blocking it. I don't know how Ram handles their bed targeting.

      @@JB_WhoWork It would probably be best to have the camera at the height of the front bed rail so you can SEE the pin and line it up clearly. Or, mount the camera inside the rear window and get most of the same effect as having it in the CHMSL.
      As for my 5W hookup, I get the truck as lined up as possible by eyeballing the rear mirrors, then turn on the bed camera for a basic guide, but turn and lean back to look through the center rear while adjusting steering with my left arm as I back up. That works best for me.

So I asked that question on a GM forum and a guy that works on GM's said no. The clutches, convertor, solenoids are all different part#s. They are for a lighter duty load. Remember the diesel trans has to be rated to at least 1200lb ft of torque. I was thinking no way are they going to that same trans behind the gasser. And he confirmed it. The surprising thing about Ford's electronic up-down tailgate is that it doesn't compensate for bumper hitch setups that are too high. I just watched a 2023 F-450 press video where the Ford engineer had to hand-stop the tailgate from dropping all the way because their test pintle hitch would have put a crater in a brand new Limited truck's gate. I get that adding a stop feature would add more weight and complexity, but it could at least fire a warning and refuse to drop the gate if an obstruction is detected, kinda like a garage door.

  • @jeffs2809
    @jeffs2809 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the performance “gains” with the trailer are psychological. Going by the video timestamps, your 0-47 was roughly 20 seconds. Maybe tow/haul is helping it hold gears longer & sounds more aggressive.
    Regarding torque management, I don’t see why it would be more active when empty vs towing, it seems they would need to protect the drivetrain most when loaded. Also, I’m reasonably sure, GM marketing (maybe just fanboys) have touted the fact that their trucks (diesels at least) don’t use torque management like the competition does.

    Nice video. So there’s really no reason for the truck to have any torque management. The only difference between the 2020-2023 and 2024 is the 10 speed transmission. From everything you can see they are the same transmission.
    I would assume they changed the torque converter but who knows. As for the 11.5” ring gear, I doubt that being an issue because that’s what the 2500 diesels have. Plus it’s what the gas trucks have had.
    Interesting results though. It could just be where you have better gearing and being under a load it’s just letting the engine stay in the power band more.
    I’m waiting for when you can test drive another 2024 and see if you can tell a difference.
