You 2 are such awesome individual personalities alone. The house on a dock floating in the middle of a lake is so intriguing! Thank you for being you and sharing it with us! ❤
Here on shawnigan Lake Vancouver Island, we just had a big storm. Power out for 6 hours and some people out for days. As the storm was coming, I made cauliflower cheese soup. So yummy and can be heated on our woodstove, which is our primary source of heat. So much rain that I was walking downhill to our dock and now it's level. We have a 6ft rise in the winter. My house is an old boathouse on cement pilings. Sometimes it feels like a boathouse as the water rises. I can fish from my bedroom porch. I get to watch ducks, eagles, herons and otters. I have a beaver family living in another dock. They are trimming my trees to stuff under it. Sigh...busy little Beavers. Living on the water is so wonderful and I am blessed my Granny bought this spot 83 years ago. It's my sanctuary with floating veggy gardens and floating wetlands that keep the water clean. Lily was happy to see Iko...she brought her ball to show her as she watched TV . So cute
Hey, y’all ! Another great video. Mr. Jones is looking slim and trim. You are becoming quite the chef., Sarah! That soup, and the bread, looks delicious! Hope y’all have a great week. Take care and we’ll see ya on Friday!
Thank you Melanie! Brandon’s opted out of drinking the past couple months, and it’s amazing how many calories & how much sugar is in some drinks lol! We don’t have a scale but we both felt like he’d shed a few pounds. He’s flattered you noticed! Thanks so much! ❤️
Cute as buttons, both of you. Y'all are heading directly into 100k! Won't be long and I'm here for it. 🙂PS: Love that song toward the end. Something about "Slow down, mama"...do you have a reference for it? I'd love to snatch it. 🙂
Gabriel Kelly - “Dontcha Wanna” ❤️🎶 thank you!! 100k would be a huge milestone, would be very gratifying!! ☺️ but we’ll keep doing our thang either way!
Hahahaha! Brandon cracked me up with his, "...Which worked until we tried it". 🤣 Your soup looked delicious (except I'm a whimp - can't do pepper of any kind). Boring, I know.
Sarah, Your soup looks very good and hearty on a cold rainy day. I enjoyed your banjo playing and singing Brandon. Also Happy Thanksgiving to you both.. I’m a 72 year old Grand-Mom and I love your channel. Watching you from Annapolis Maryland. We had our first snow today.. stay warm and God Bless ❤️🙏🏼❤️
Hi S&B! That soup looked delicious Sarah! Great to see you two and Iko doing what you! It’s like visiting two good friends every Friday! Have a great week! T&C!
Good seeing you as always! That Iko song Brandon sang about Grandmas; I used to sing that years ago. I'd forgotten about it. Thank you. Oh, it's my Birthday so that was a nice present to hear it being played.
Love your channel! That soup looks great! Wish I could get my husband to eat cauliflower.Keep up the great content and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
My cold weather soup is hamburger, beef and vegetable. And of course, the obligatory french bread. My Grand daughter called me up and asked how I made it. She called today and said she is making hamburger soup for my Birthday, man was it good. My Daughter's birthday is the 23rd, mine on the 21st. Always a good time with family. My wife and I, as usual, enjoyed this weeks video, the music, the work and of course your dinner.
Thought I was hearing a JJ Cale song - through the magic of tech I asked my phone who the song was (during soup making) it answered immediately with Gabriel Kelly - Nice choice - laid back and earthy LOL
Love some JJ Cale! But we can’t use commercial music in any of our vids for copyright reasons 😭 has to be royalty free. Thankfully there are some pretty solid artists who make royalty free music too, like Gabriel Kelly! 🙌
Taken from a long time renovator from houses to beach front condos to our final reno (for now) houseboat…the box for the soloist batteries? Put some sorta waterproof top to the box such as laminate for countertops, vinyl tile, copper sheeting, stainless steel something that is serviceable. No need for painting and expands your work surface.
@ 9:22 not against the use of three window unit AC's because they are really easy and cheap to replace, but that house/floating looks like a good candidate for a Mr Cool mini split unit / with solar might be more efficient way to go ?
Great Video!! Question, do y'all ever go fishing off y'all's porch, can't be all work days .😊 Good Music in the this video. 🪕🎶 👍👍 Happy Thanksgiving to y'all next week.
Not as much as we should! 😋 usually for fun we lean more into watersports in the summer & hiking in the winter. Brandon fishes out on the lake with his buddies a lot but it’s usually late at night (doesn’t make for great videos in the dark 😆). Happy happy thanksgiving to yall too! 🙏
The new what now? Cubed? I am guessing that’s a typo but I can’t quite guess what you meant 😆 the power box is original from when we built the house though. Just a fresh coat of paint 🙌
So interesting, like always. I would think pulling up to one of the houses would be risky to not have your motors get tangled in all the lines. Is this idea of floating houses unique to that lake? Haven't heard of it being done on any other ones. And... are houseboats basically just as big? Or what is the advantage of a floating house vs a houseboat permanently out there.
Floating cabins aren’t unique to this lake, they’re on a number of others as well, but it’s definitely not super common or allowed on the majority of lakes. We ensure it’s passable on all sides for a boat, as we have to boat all around our house daily for Iko’s potty times. It’s super easy to see the lines as they’re neon yellow, and even if you’re not paying attention and do run over one, when you hit a line that’s taut, it doesn’t get tangled in the prop - it just pushes against the foot of the motor and brings the boat to a stop. You can then back up and try again, paying attention this time lol. No biggie! Good question about the houseboat vs floating house thing - we made a video on the differences/pros & cons a while back! Here’s the link: th-cam.com/video/hMXAw7qwvNU/w-d-xo.html
I was just thinking we'll you are making your why not soup. Your lines holding your boat should have what looks like funnels about half way down. That stop any mice or rodents from getting on board.
Certainly couldn’t hurt but it’s been a few years and we’ve never had that issue before haha. That’s been once nice change from living on land, no mice! 🙌
They’ve tried in 2016. It already passed thru legislation and was decided (all the way up ay the presidential level) that they were to stay, indefinitely, provided they meet new common sense environmental standards for things like flotation and waste water disposal.
It varies a lot, as it’s fully up to the discretion of the marinas that have 26a permits to allow moorings within their harbor limits. Ours is $5k per year.
FINALLY a use for the Pythagorean Theorem!!!! 📐🙌🤔 Very interesting vd. Thanks for sharing all these details about ⚓ing lines. Happy Thanksgiving to you both, your family & floating community 🦃🧡🦃 ps during hurricane it is adviced for boats to move to the mangroves and use the 4 point anchor method to (see vds). Boat owners will drop anchor on two sides in front and tie lines to the mangroves on two points. it works. The mangroves are a great hiding place from the high winds and the mangrove roots are anchored well for hurricane storm surge.
Hahaha I know right! I take back all those “why do we need to learn this, it’s not like we’ll ever use it in real life” mumblings from high school math class 😂 That totally makes sense about the mangroves & 4-point system! These are things we will have to learn more about one day when we live on a sailboat 😋 Happy thanksgiving!! ❤️

Love watching y’all pick guitars and sing together!!!
So fun! 💓 glad you enjoyed too!!

So that’s what y’all were doing in the marina when I came by. Sad to have missed the concert. I can play the spoons next time! 😂
Wait can you really play the spoons though?!? That would add a lot! 🤠
@@KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses no, but I’d learn to join in the fun!! 😂 🥄 🥄
That would be awesome! 🤠
Requesting a Brandon cooked meal! Curious what his go to would be.
Why not!!!
Love this idea!! Would make for a fun video too! 🤠

Soup sounded great. Could you add some bacon?
You could do whatever you want, there’s no rules! 🤠
When did you guys put in the new cubed under the counter? Looks like you put in a new power box too. They look good!

yes 😂 they are especially sad with it getting cold outside & the indoor temperature fluctuates much more! they always bounce back though 🙌
@ 24:35 do I detect Teflon in that pot ? I thought we decided on porcelain coated caste iron ? you know, like the toilet LMAO
I don’t have a cast iron pot much less the toilet coated kind! 😆

Such stunning animals truly! 🦅
"Aint nobody gonna be around us for the next 3 days"....... lol. Add a Brandon Fart into the mix, and you can get 4 days outta it! Bwahahahahahaha!

Very Emmet Otter
