They were tall people, well built and used to wear small caps on their heads, they were very nice people, they used to give us money to look after the place, and never gave us any grief. Normally around 400-500 people would visit each funeral."

    11. SOUNDBITE (Urdu) Mumtaz Ali, Hashoo, Curator, Karachi Museum :
"They weren't that rich or influential, what or how they were thinking about the future of the Jewish community wasn't really known, unlike the Christians, who were very well organised at that point, their commission, and their churches, the Christians had a direct link with Italy (Vatican). By comparison, very little was known about Jewish people here, people close to them did think that they were from the desert of Sinai."

    27. Tilt up of mosque drawings
    28. SOUNDBITE (English) Yasmin Lari, Architectural Historian:
"It was a very tolerant city, that Muslims of the area were quite willing and happy to commission an architect who was Jewish. That means a lot of trust and faith in the architect, they obviously held him in great esteem, maybe he belonged to that community, maybe he lived there, we don't know where he actually lived, we do know where he worked because we found his (business) letterheads."

    LEAD IN:
Karachi, Pakistan's largest city and financial hub, was once home to a thriving Jewish community.
Most left the city after an increase in anti-semitism in Pakistan following the 1967 Six Day War.
But the community left their cultural mark on the city - and some say a handful still live here in secret - watching over their architecture and graveyards.

My early brought up was in Sadar Karachi back in 60's when we had Jewish families living in our neighbourhood. My best friend in those days was Parsi/Jewish called David and his father was Robin.
    Those were good days.
Synagogue shown in clip was in our close vicinity. I have great respect for this community

If you want others to be secular, be secular yourself first, which means leave islam as islam is ANTI SECULAR.
All other faiths today have reformed and are compatible with secular as they have left the path of fear threats coercion and violence and accept free speech that critics religion their fake gods and rituals etc. Only islam is left, and islam is most horrid of all religions right now as it has resisted all attempts to reform it from within. Killer religion.

Why would people hide their identity? They are all under tremendous pressure to hide themselves or it is for just fun? Do you tolerate other religion? Do you allow them to flourish? What is the growth rate of all minorities in Karachi? In pakistan? In India? In Nepal? In Iraq?, or in say even Myanmar? Hello peaceful man, look at the world you are in and talk. Bharti or Bharati is itself a big world, which has taken other ideas and cultures peacefully. Did not cause wars, distastes, etc.
You make yourself hateful. Stop, see, listen to others and also please tolerate others point of view and other religions too.

I'm so happy to see so many Pakistani Muslims saying that Pakistani Jews are Pakistani too and should not hide their identity and that the people causing problems are not real Muslims.
My family on my mother's side was from Lahore and from Luxor/Egypt - and Jewish.
I love Pakistan, I love Egypt, and I love my Native American background from my father's side.
Unfortunately I have experienced so much hatred and violence from several Pakistanis that I cannot even describe in words what I have been put through. The abuse I suffered was so extreme that nobody even believes me because nobody believes that a human being could do such things to another living being - especially a vulnerable girl that is alone in the world.
On top of that, they denied me my identity as being part Pakistani. They defamed me and stole my identity by making it out that I was "white" and "Western", and "of loose morals". I am neither Caucasian nor Western. I merely live in the UK - as do many other Pakistanis, Egyptians and Americans. I have very strict moral standards, so much so that I have stayed single all my life because I refuse to run around with men. What they did was character assassination. Character assassination is equal to murder in Judaism - because it destroys the standing of a person in society, it destroys a person's honor.
Despite this, my love for Pakistan has never ceased.
Thank you to all the wonderful Pakistani people who encourage Jewish Pakistanis to live freely - you are truly people of real faith, you are wonderful representatives of Pakistan!

We are not anti-Jew, we're anti-Zionism. I understand their fear though because there are so many uneducated people who resort to violence, they don't know the difference between a Jew and an Israeli.
Pakistan is the Islamic Republic but it's not Islam only. Pakistan is for all who love and live in it.
We need to educate our family and friends. Please do so. Let's not let our brothers and sisters from other religions suffer. Let's be an example of religious freedom so that the world can see what Islam really is.
Some quotes from the Qur'an and Haddith.
“Beware! Whoever is cruel and hard on a non-Muslim minority, or curtails their rights, or burdens them with more than they can bear, or takes anything from them against their free will; I (Prophet Muhammad) will complain against the person on the Day of Judgment.” (Abu Dawud)
“To the Jews who follow us belong help and equity. He shall not be harmed nor his enemies be aided.”
“Whoever kills a person who has a truce with the Muslims will never smell the fragrance of Paradise.”
“This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them. Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by God! I hold out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate. No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray. Their churches are declared to be protected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).”
“…There is no compulsion in religion…”

@Amb Dar You don't know what that is. Also, taqqiya is used to save lives. Albanians used taqqiya to protect Jews from other Europeans. Muslims are permitted to deny their faith if their life is in danger, that is what taqqiya means.
You're clearly uneducated. But please, try again

As a Pakistani and Muslim also I hang my head in shame and disgust that any minority Christian Hindu Jew or anyone not Muslim living in Pakistan in fear of their lives just because they are not Muslims they had to live under different name or hide their believe in order to survive in Pakistan if only ignorant Muslim know what Quran orders and what prophet Muhammad ( pbuh ) said about the rights of non Muslims and how many rights non Muslim have living in Muslim lands we should all be ashamed of ourselves may Allah forgive our sins ameen . you can tell a lot about a country the way they treat their citizens specially minority's.

yes, with muslim majority population, muslim rights will be definitely secured and other minorities can live well within a secular state ,were they to be given into the hands of a "so called" islamic government like pakistan i wouldn't like that for myself.just look at the cases of aasia bibi and mashal khan and now don't tell me that it was just because of some fundamentalist. They'd literally kill you for offending them.
