What are the main things worth seeing or doing there? I'm American btw, though I'm very interested in Yugoslavia so I have some reasons to visit already
Skopje has beautiful nature nearby, Matka Canyon. The city itself is covered in statues but these are all new and the story behind them is quite sad. All of Yugoslavia is beautiful and we highly recommend visiting!

North Macedonian food is Bulgarian. Everything is the same as in Bulgarian cusine. Shopska Salad, Banitsa, Sarma, kufte, kebabche, gyuvech, lutenitsa, musaka and everything else is Bulgarian.
