As a Yankees fan, Steinbrenner drove me nuts sometimes, but the guy did have a burden to win. Overall I miss the guy. He was a great competitor. Thank you George for making the NY Yankees realavant again.

When I find something I like I stick with it. From 1973 to 1982 I
ate the exact same lunch every day. Turkey chili in a bowl made out of bread.
Bread bowl, first you eat the chili then you eat the bowl. There's nothing more
satisfying than looking down after lunch and seeing nothing but a table.

He wanted to win, but his problem was he doesn't know how to win. Once he learned how to win, he relaxed, held back from firing people. And he let the world series rain down.

Anyone True Yankee fan missed the hell out of The Boss... His bark was just as bad as his bite, but also had a heart of gold and once you were a Yankee you remained one for life. Like all of us he loved being the Emperor of the "Evil Empire" (evil to Red Sox fans is being clean shaven, following the motto look like steak okay like steak, and fans who aren't infamous for racial slurs that would make a Mississippi Sheriff blush... Go Yanks!

and I have to tell you, it's exactly what this organization needed. We wanna look to the future, we gotta tear down the past. Babe Ruth was nothing more than a fat old man with little-girl legs. And here's something I just found out recently. He wasn't really a sultan. Huh, what do you make of that? Hey, check this out. [stands up] Lou Gehrig's pants. Not a bad fit. Hey, you don't think that nerve disease of his was contagious, do you? Uh, I better take them off. I'm too important to this team. Big Stein can't be flopping and twitching. Hey, how about some lunch. What are you going for?

It wasn't George Steinbrenner who was the architect of those great late 90's early 2000's Yankee teams--it was Gene Michael! Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Rivera--all were products of the tremendous farm system that Michael built---and they were able to get guys like O'Neil, Tino, Cone, Brosius, etc. through shrewd trades that all involved players developed in the Yankee organization. Steinbrenner had nothing to do with this!! Gene Michael (and Buck Showalter to an extent) turned the Yankee franchise around and got them back on the road to prominence.

While it's indisputable that great "architects" play crucial roles in the success of ambitious projects...it must also be recognized that such architects don't just appear within organizations out of thin air.
First a vision is cast...then people are selected (entrusted) with aligning themselves with as well as executing that vision.
Your comment indicates that you still have a lot to learn about the importance of organizational leadership.
