Best underlever for the money available, love mine to bits. I currently have one of these (with the beech sporter stock, I like wood) and a HW100 bullpup, all the airguns I need. Not that that will stop me buying more, I have my eye on a HW98 too...
Be a bit more careful hanging on to the lever when your thumb is in the breach though, it's just held on the safety and isn't a proper anti-beartrap. If you set the trigger as light as you can, and they do go very light, you can bump the gun and have it slam shut. That could cost you the top joint of your thumb and, more importantly, get blood all over your laminate stock. Keep a good, solid grip on the lever whenever it's being loaded. Two fingers isn't enough, it'll rip out of your grip before you can react, I've seen it happen.
Also try it with a smaller scope, I fitted an MTC Viper Pro 10x44 fixed on mine, looks stunning and it's as much scope as you need at springer ranges.

@@tvm-reviews I also recommend getting a grip for the cocking lever (Rowan Engineering do a great one) for a bit more purchase. Doesn't hurt that they look cool too.
All the best mate, glad you enjoyed shooting the 97 as much as I do, they really are a sweet bit of kit.

Hello good sir. I’ve been shooting springers for over 40 years and they are very hold sensitive. The lighter the hold the better. I own a weihrauch HW98 and 95k both break barrels and they are pellet on pellet over 30+ metres if held correctly. I also own an array of PCP’s from budget to my BRK ghost and they’re really not fussy how you grip them. I don’t want to seem like I’m teaching a granny to suck eggs just a bit of advice from a shooter with over 40 years experience with spring piston rifles. Enjoying the content 👍🏼 brilliant standing stance ( artillery hold )

Great rifle with PCP accuracy. Even better accuracy than a lot of PCP's on the market if you know how to shoot the 97. The scope is way to big, you need to swap to a more compact scope to get good acces to the loading port. Thanks for showing and hold the underlever when loading👍Cheers!

@@tvm-reviews I own two 97's and i also forget sometimes to hold the underlever 🤥 There is one more thing, you have to hold the underlever firm because if you only hold it and things should go wrong your brain won't give you the time to react and your loading thumb will be crossed anyway.

    Great review
Better than the Turkish delight stuff which you will have forgotten in a few years .
These don't really have a bear trap that's the AA tx .
It's held on the safety with these so do keep hold of the lever when your fingers are in there .
Gun is great and you did well .they do shoot better free hand.or off a softer bag .
Thank you for reviewing this .
It and you will getting better the more you shoot .
People will talk about tunning and it makes a massive difference but they are good enough for most people out the box .
That one didn't twang that badly either .
Great views please keep up the good work ,most enjoyable.
Oh the scope is too long .makes loading difficult
    A proper air rifle
A lot of people that go PCP come back to these for a reason.

100% agree. I’d “scope out” pun intended… a shorter scope if I was keeping this one. But yeah right now my top 2 rifles are the HW100 and this hw97. Don’t want to fanboy but they’re pretty amazing!

I have the very same one and I love it and got it very cheap indeed. I was after a 97k as a back up and was going to go for a beech sporter and was going buy one that following week. Then I was in a local pub one Sunday afternoon and a guy I sort of knew was at the bar and we got talking shooting and I mentioned that I was looking for a 97k in 22 and he said he had a blue laminate and was I interested? I remember him saying only a few months prior he’d bought one but he said he needed the cash and didn’t have the time anymore for it. He said he had bought it in a package deal, scope bag pellets etc for about £650 and still had the box for it. He was asking £500 to which I refused point blank. Anyhow after much haggling and fortunately I had a load of cash on me I waved £300 under his nose saying take it or leave it knowing I had another £100 in pocket which I removed from my wallet when I popped to the gents before we started to talk money. At first he said no but I knew I was so close to a deal, so I said I’ve no more cash but I’ll buy you a pint on my card and he accepted, bingo!
But I wasn’t really after a blue laminate version as my rifles get used for vermin control and I hadn’t been looking for one either and certainly wasn’t going to pay the extra for the privilege either but I’d got myself a dam good deal and I knew it. But only a week or so later my local gun shop had a mint condition beach stock in for sale at only around £75 I believe he was asking and as I knew the guy very well he let me have it for £60 so now I’ve kind of got two 97’s.
Definitely recommend a 97 to anyone and at some point I’ll be looking for one in 177 possibly a second hand one with a bit of a scabby stock to dress it up in a nice laminate instead.

It's also worth pointing out that there's no “anti bear trap” (device that locks the compression cylinder in place and has to be manually released) on the HW97. It has a trigger block, linked to the underlever, that acts as an additional safety catch and stops the trigger being pulled until the underlever has been clipped back in place. If the trigger sear fails or slips when the rifle is cocked there is nothing stopping the piston and compression cylinder flying forward. As @briandix216 said, Always keep a firm grip in the underlever or break barrel when loading.
