I have been an advocate of having a shotgun fit for a shooter for thirty odd years.
    It does make a difference!
If it does not fit and are still shooting well, your brain is making those adjustments for you!
When doing it that way, it slows your shooting down and you can miss more.
What is also very important is, FOOT POSITION.
On crossing birds your torso is a coil and if the feet are wrong you will shoot behind or in front.
Or your mind fights it and you hit it, thus slowing the shooter down.
When everything is working correctly the shooter feels they have all the time in the world to make the shot.
A great shooter will have a shotgun that fits his style and they will also know where to place his feet,
because they have planned where they will shoot the target.

I’ve recently had a gun fit from Matt and a stock made by Manuel Ricardo. M.R. quickly checked Matt’s measurements and were so happy with them they commenced work on my stock straight away without needing to take their own measurements. I can’t speak highly enough of Manuel Ricardo or Matt and now have a 1st class stock. Any misses are now purely down to me 😀 If I pick up a gun with a std stock now it feels soo wrong.

More important than the gun. Your performance with an inexpensive gun fitted to you will be far better than a expensive gun that doesn't fit you at all

It depends what level you’re shooting at.
Adjusting cast or comb height a few millimetres isn’t going to make a difference for your average club shooter. Being super critical, it’s probably unlikely to do anything for your pro either.
I have 6 guns, all in varying stock dimensions and all cast for right-handers (I’m a lefty), which I can shoot equally well (75-80), I’m yet to blame the stock dimensions for any of my misses.
Momentary lapses in concentration and mis-reading the target is normally the culprit. I imagine it’s the same for 99.9% of shooters.

At one level it's hard to argue your logic. I shoot about 5000 rounds per year and I'd bet that 90+% of my misses are not because of "gun fit". Having said that, I want my target guns to shoot EXACTLY where I'm looking and can test that with a 30"x30" piece of paper in my back yard. It's a Point-of-Impact (POI) test and if your gun doesn't shoot where you look, you can struggle. Why not do it right?

@@the45er I should have mentioned…I’m also left-handed and all my guns are cast for a right-handed. I’ve personally never struggled, so I’ve never tried to fix what I don’t think is broken. I know that other areas of my shooting need to improve, such as reading targets and adjusting for lead more consistently. I think once I do that, that’s what’s going to push me into the 80s, rather than a gun fit.
Personally, I think as long as the gun doesn’t have some crazy cast and your finger can reach the trigger; then you can work around the rest to get to the correct sight picture.

@@Chris_P_Bacon0788 The perception in your head is the most critical aspect of shooting. You can adjust your body to accommodate almost any gun configuration. That is a fact. My point is that IF you start with a gun that really fits you, it makes the whole process go much smoother. Many, many years ago we bought my dad a SxS shotgun because he wanted one so badly. He was a very good game shot using the venerable old Browning A5 "sweet 16". He struggled for years and never could shoot that SxS worth a darn. In the early 2000's I had the great privilege of getting to know and shooting with Bob Brister (google the name if you don't know it). He taught me a lot of things, including barrel regulation. Sure enough, we learned that the right barrel of dad's SxS was shooting 7-8" inches left of the Point of Aim at 15 yards. Doesn't seem like much, but it is, believe me! A gun that doesn't fit can produce the same error. True, it is worse with a SxS or O/U when one barrel is off and the other isn't, but if your gun doesn't fit, it can be a struggle. You have adapted to a gun that doesn't fit and if in your head it doesn't matter, it doesn't. You can adapt. All I'm saying is that gun fit shortens the adaptation time.

On the other side of the pond we never look down a barrel from the muzzle, especially at a field. We are just condition every gun is loaded even if it's not. Its just crazy to have someone with live ammo in area, take a break open shut it and point it directly at someone's head 1 foot away.
We use flags and rods in barrels.
    Nice video.

Yes you do, I've seen gun fit videos from the US. Absolutely no problem whatsoever if both parties know that the gun is empty. To have a gun fit, you must have somebody look from the other end.

No gun fit is not important. Championships have been won with custom stocks, factory stocks and adjustable stocks.

No championship has ever been won with a gun that doesn’t fit. Be in factory, custom or adjustable that gun fits the individual
