    @ksgant The 600EX RT flash is backwards compatible with all EOS Digital and film SLR cameras. Regarding its radio transmitter features, it's only compatible with other 600EX RT flashes or the new ST-E3 RT transmitter, and camera models made after 2012 must be compatible with the current trigger options.
    If you have an older Canon DSLR, or use the Infrared wireless system with the ST-E2 transmitter or 580/420EX series flashes it would be compatible with those units as well.

    If you are referring to the MULTI Stroboscopic Flash mode, then yes, the Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite Flash does have this feature, and the Canon 430EX II Speedlite Flash does not.

    Yes, the Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT is compatible with the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T3i DSLR camera.

    Yes; to wirelessly control the off-camera flash's output power, it would require the Canon ST-E3-RT Wireless Speedlite Transmitter or a master Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite Flash on-camera to trigger the two off-camera 600EX-RT flashes. An alternative option that would allow for output control would be to use PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceivers on the off-camera flashes and another FlexTT5 or MiniTT1 on-camera. However, the first alternative would be the easiest and most economical option.

    The Canon 600EX-RT is designed to be fully compatible with all Canon EOS cameras released in 2012, including the Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR camera. The flash will also work with all other E-TTL II compatible Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras, and will work in standard E-TTL mode with the cameras (and restrictions) listed on in the Canon 600EX-RT Instruction Manual on page 51 and page 116.

    The 600EX RT has the capability to work both IF and RF as you know. However, while the 600EX-RT can work with the 430EXII in IR mode and it can work with other 600EX's in RF mode, it cannot do both IR and RF at the same time. So mixing the different units on set is not possible.

    When the off-camera Canon 600EX-RT is set as a remote flash in optical/infrared mode, it can be triggered wirelessly by the built-in flash on the Canon EOS 7D DSLR camera.

    Yes, you can use the Canon 600EX-RT speedlite on your Mark II camera to wirelessly trigger your second 600EX-RT flash on a light stand. - Yossi

    You may use either the Canon ST-E3 RT transmitter device on the camera to trigger two 600EX RT's remotely via radio, or you may opt to purchase a 3rd 600EX RT for the camera to serve as a trigger. - Yossi

    This reply will be posted on both TH-cam videos which you posted this question on.
    If the camera is firing, one of two thing is definitely occurring 1) the camera has achieved autofocus. The unit is designed not to fire if the camera cannot achieve autofocus on the subject. Things to consider with this are: A) your focusing mode. Select a single-shot type focusing option as opposed to a servo method. Servo method could delay the camera from firing at the time you intended as it is looking for the moving subject (and tracking it) to properly focus, which could take longer to achieve than if the camera was either pre-focused manually (which is recommended by Canon in the manual for the ST-E3 RT) or using a single-shot focus. B) with that also consider using a general metering patter as opposed to a specific AF point or using the whole focusing array.
    2) Its worth checking to make sure your lens is set to autofocus. If the flash is firing and triggering the camera, and the result is not in focus, then another reason would be that the lens is set to manual focus, and is not properly pre-focused on the subject.
    I discussed this with a colleague and he and I also came up with the following that is worth considering: If the chosen focus point or focus pattern selected (along with the selected aperture) causes the camera to focus on a part of the subject the photographer does not want (and cannot tell as his eye is not at the viewfinder) or the depth of field or subject movement when the shutter button is pressed can cause inaccurate autofocus. Ultimately, if the camera fires, it apparently focused on something, though it may not be what you wanted, or the subject could have moved slightly at the time of the exposure.
    If all of the above is confirmed and you still are not getting a focused shot, I would recommend contacting Canon's technical support at 1-800-ok-canon, and they can further comment on the situation. - Yossi

    No, it cannot. You can only use EITHER optical triggering OR radio triggering; you cannot use both simultaneously. If you will trigger the 430EX II Flashes wirelessly, then ONLY the Canon 550EX, 580EX, 580EX II, or Canon 600EX-RT Flashes using optical flash triggering can be used. As the Canon ST-E2 Speedlite Transmitter is an optical trigger, it can also trigger the 430EX II Flashes wirelessly. Canon optical wireless triggering cannot be combined with Canon?s radio wireless triggering.

    @drummatic05 If you are looking for the current best light source from Canon for the Canon 7D with the most options and highest power output, then yes, the Canon 600EX-RT would be worth getting with the Canon 7D.

    I currently own a canon 430ex II, i am thinking of purchasing 600ex rt, for the advantage of radio transmission. can the 600 ex rt control my existing 430ex II which has infrared transmitter?
    Thank you BH team for your wonderful informative videos.

  • @BandH
    @BandH  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, you cannot. The ST-E3-RT is a radio transmitter ONLY and is only compatible with the Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite Flash. The Canon 430EX Speedlite Flash wireless mode works optically, and the ST-E3-RT cannot trigger Canon flashes optically.

    Does it make short flash bursts to help focusing in the dark like the on-board flash in the Rebel series does?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite Flash does not emit flash bursts to assist in autofocus. As stated on page 20 of the speedlite's instruction manual, when autofocus cannot achieve focus on the subject in low-light or when contrast is low, the built-in AF-assist beam activates automatically to help autofocus. The AF-assist beam in the 600EX-RT is compatible with all EOS cameras' AF points. Page 6 of the instruction manual indicates the position of the AF-assist beam emitter on the flash.

    Is is possible to have the camera autofocus when using remote triggering from the 600EX RT? Mine indeed does trigger the camera but no autofocus function means the camera gets many out of focus shots of subjects when they move even slightly.

    Well, I called you guys today, and figured out the Bowens Pulsar transceiver that is attached to the flash unit lowers the sync speed. Is it true the only time I can sync higher is if the flash is on the camera?

    I find this subject extremely confuzing. I'm looking for a way to trigger and control ouput on 2 remote flashes. I know triggering can be easily achieved with the many cheap alternatives, but for output control, do I need to get an ST-E3-RT, and 2 of the 600s?

    Hello,
    I am a few years late but I had a question about the 600EX-RT. I recently bought this flash unit used and tried to mount it on a Canon EOS Elan 7E film camera. It should ideally work properly with this camera as it is a type A body if I remember reading right. But try as I might, the flash zoom remains in manual mode only and I cannot even change its value even in the manual mode it is stuck in. I tried every fix I could find on the internet like setting the wide screen and catch card on the flash head back properly, adjusting the flash head correctly, etc. But it does not seem to work at all. Resetting all the custom and personal functions also has not helped so far. Could you guide me?
    Any help would be valuable, otherwise I am stuck with a near useless flash unit.
    Cheers!

      The Canon 600EX-Rt should work with the Elan 7E. Some features will not work, but most will. It might be broken the flash or the camera. You might want to email us for more information at askbh@bhphoto.com. And Page 2 and page 116 in the flash manual has some information as well, bhpho.to/3uzf4fY.

    So why would you need a system like the PocketWizard Flex TT5-Canon to remotely fire this speedlight? Thank you.

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joe Moss If using the Canon 600EX=RT with the Canon ST-E3-RT Speedlite Transmitter the PocketWizard Flex TT5 would not be necessary in any manner. The PW TT5 is idea for flashes without built-in Radio Transmitters. *Andrea

    I am struggling to learn this flash (my first one) with the Phottix Odin Trigger System. Can you provide any instruction or help in combining the two. I thought I would be able to adjust my flash off camera from the Trigger system but getting my head wrapped around it all has me a little confused. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

    Correct, the delay in one transmitter sending a signal to the other will eliminate HSS.
