Late comment but you guys are amazing teachers. I have seen this before but I just bought a new Tracker and I learned a ton just now. Thanks for all you do for us.
Could you guys do a part 2 and describe what exactly to look for during each season to know how to approach a new lake before even getting on the water?
Good job explaining mapping! How about a discussion regarding tbe Humminbird 360 including: settings, understanding structure and how to fish it; seeing fish and anything else you think might help us. I really appreciate your expertise!!
Interesting. I have a lowrance elite 7ti only use that when I go fishing offshore here in so cal. Most of the time when I’m inshore fishing I use an old old fish finder. Eagle silent sixty one.
I have 2 Lowrance Gen 2 HDS 7" on my Champion with the LakeMaps chips but can't seem to get them to work correctly. I need to spend some time on the water trying to get them to work. I always get frustrated and just fish instead. Thanks for the tips Tim!! You guys are the best!
Great video!! With everything you said. Catching fish 12-15' of water. You are gonna look for points and hump saddles ect. How do you approach these areas with your boat to fish? Does it depend weather, wind, season, sunlight, NESW, what tackle you are using, or water current? Or does it all matter or nothing at all?
Hi Tim, just a quick question and let me preface it by saying that I'm relatively new to fishing so I still have a lot to learn. The question I have is as follows: I know you talk a lot about looking for tight contour lines but can you tell me what is the significance of the tight contour lines as it relates to finding fish? Is that where they generally set up at a certain time of year or will they be there any time of year can I go to a new lake and generally find fish there? If you just expand on that a little bit it would be greatly appreciated.
In short, tight contour lines signify drastic changes in depth. Most of the year bass will use these areas as highways because they can quickly move up shallow and feed or move to deeper water, say if a storm is coming or they spot a predator. As of right now, females are using this as they stage near spawning bays. When the conditions are right, they can pull up to spawn but if something spooks them or conditions change, they can quickly scoot back out to deeper water. Hope this helps and tight lines!
Awesome video Tim.. hey guys how would you compare navionics+ to lakemaster? Navionics+ came bundled with my unit but I may still purchase lakemaster..
I am fishing the California Delta. I am trying to find clam beds in the system. Can a Garmin 94sv plus be able to read the difference between a muddy or Sandy bottom vs a Clam bed. What would a clam bed look like on the fish finder. Thanks
This is probably a dumb question.. but how do you know with the the graph scrolling from right to left .. where the structure or fish etc is below your boat and where to make the cast.. I dont get how it constantly moves at the same rate but your boat speed can vary. How do u know where where the mark is actually located below the boat?
I just purchased a Helix 8 Mega SI/DI G3N. Should I purchase the regular digital Charts western states chip or the plus version? do you know much about the plus verison?
cool, I'll forward video to neighbor. Me, I have a kayak, just starting out, let me learn how not to fall in while casting sitting down, then I'll start looking for "add-ons." 😆😎
Navionics has more lake contours than lake master, but hd with the Lakemaster chip is hands down the best! Instead of buying the chip from Lakemaster, you can go to their website and purchase the individual mapping for that lake in HD, that’s if they have it... I wish I hand known this, cause I only have two lakes in my area in hd.. which would be 20 bucks instead of 150
Once on the water, if the chart says you should be in 20 ft of water, but your sonar depth says 15 ft, you know the lake is 5 ft lower, and adjust the unit accordingly
Filipe gave you the most accurate method. On the water find a flat area...compare what your chart says to what the sonar is saying, and make the adjustment then.
I got the Garmin echomap 73. The maps on that unit are amazing. I thought the down imaging was fine too be the biggest keep forward for me but the navigation has really been impressive.
@@TheKodiakWay that makes no sense to me. Mine is instant and the maps are so accurate it's insane. How old is your unit? Mines just from last year. Do you have the fishing maps or only the navigation maps?
@@thisislargemouth5566 What I record shows up quickly, but its a max of 5 mph to get detail, and that takes forever to map areas with multiple passes. When I fire up Quickdraw it drops all the pre programmed maps, so I'm driving blind. None of the lakes in my area are hd maps, just very basic contours. And the card regularly loses connection. Units are a year and a half old.
@@thisislargemouth5566 I also find it a pain to mark waypoints of different kinds. Switching between trees, rocks, and danger areas is a process compared to other brands.
Yaaayyy another electronic video that is irrelevant to me! Lol I don’t have 3k to spend on graphs. I may get a cheap one in the future for my Bonafide so I can’t see basic depth/structure and know when I’m going over a school of fish.
Much of this info even applies to paper maps, only a couple points require a higher end unit. Quality electronics that will take a map card are wayyyy cheaper than they used to be.
Compare the depth of your sonar reading and your mapping. If your sonar reads 5ft and your map says the depth is 10ft, you need to adjust your map 5ft.

Love the electronic videos! Need more of them
Love being able to go back in your library and learn. TY as always

Check out a TH-cam channel called Fish The Moment.
They've literally done this...all in the archive if you're willing to look
Been requesting this one for a while.. thanks guys!!
Yes great stuff please more of them. Thanks for all you guys do it is very appreciated.
Truly the best! Awesome video guys!
One of the best I've seen on explaining this technology.
Getting ready to buy some eletronics these videos are awesome.
Love these electronic videos, keep them coming!
I need to learn this more thank you 👊👊👍👍

Love my Champion too but run Navionics.
Timmy!!!! Jk, I was starting to think you scrapped the rest of the series. Well explained, simple to follow along. Happy Easter fellas

Can y'all do a video on how to fish big lakes for beginners.

no you can not

I need a video on your favorite glide baits and how you fish them
Hey Tim,Matt, I got out of my "comfort zone" and tried a glide bait. I found that it doesn't like to fish fast. LOL it rolls over.
Lol! Fish it a little slower

I learned a couple things. The biggest is that Hummingbirds are soooo much more user friendly than Lowrance.
So good!!!!
Does Lake Insight work the same?
Does anybody know if Lopez lake is on the lake master plus chip. I want to be sure before I buy one
Anyone else screenshotting Tim's waypoints? 🕵️♂️🕵️♂️ lol j/k... kinda...

Navionics for $15. It's a app. Great detail. Plus it uses your devices GPS so you know exactly where you are at.
Well I bank fish so this doesn't apply to me
