One of the best videos this year. Breaking down river systems have always been tougher for me. Big kayak tournament at Dardanelle this weekend, definitely putting this info to use!
I've been reading paper maps, and i even attended bass fishing techniques classes back in 1996. This is by far the best instruction I have recieved. Thank you for this video and for helping me identify a hot spot within a spot.
Matt you have no idea how helpful these videos are for newer fisherman and those new to electronics also. This is seriously a game changer video for me. I haven’t been using my charts correctly apparently.
Another highly educational video. Sweet spots. Area for quick exit. So fundamental! Thank you. Hopefully I’ll learn to break down my local fisheries and become a better angler.
Thank you Matt! I really needed a lesson on finding the best place to start looking for fish on my lakes! Man I’m thankful for y’all and the things y’all teach, y’all are making me so much better than I ever was!
Possibly (for me) the most informative video in breaking down a body of water. I’m new to fishing from a boat and having electronics so maybe this is not as impressive to others, but thank you for this series of videos, fellas! Can’t wait to see what comes in the coming weeks from you guys. 🤙🏽
Appreciate this video. I got a used 14 ft jon boat last year with minimal electronics a Garmin Striker 4 but ran across your video from like 10 years ago on how to read a lake map and think its awesome how you break things down. I downloaded a map of my reservoir last night and have started a plan for when the weather starts getting a little warmer. I would go in the winter but still have "sea legs" in my boat and really dont trust myself with the cold water, LOL. Thanks again. Oh new subscriber and have been binge watching your videos.
This video was very well done! So much great info with real mapping examples. Thanks Matt and you guys keep up the good work. We certainly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.
It will be exciting to watch Matt and Tim hone their skills as they learn their new lake. To be able to watch as it happens makes me feel like they are starting a new chapter in TacticalBassin. Best of luck to TacticalBassin. I hope you and your families have a healthy and prosperous life in your new homes...and stick a big one!
I am coming with a small group of friends fishing Chick the first week of November. All this map talk is really helping! Maybe I'll see yall on the water! Would be great to finally meet you. Been watching yall since you were making video's on your couch back in California!
Love the information you guys share it's been helping me learn so much being im still very new to bass fishing sense being a kayak fisherman it's important to learn to break down a body of water so my short time on the water isn't a waist. Looking forward to learning more threw your experience off breaking down this lake
Went fishing today was there for an hour and a half, for a straight hour and 10 minutes didn't catch anything night have missed a few bites but was a very slow day, then I said to who I was with I want to try one more thing, they wanted to leave but I wanted to catch a bass, I pulled out a 3/16 shaky head and a netbait tmac and I threw that out and I saw a shade area, placed a perfect cast and caught a fish 5 minutes before I had to go, so as I'm walking to the car I throw it out one last time and hook up again, but if it want for this channel never would have gotten the tmac thanks so much for helping me become a better angler and understanding of bass Edit colors for shaky head and the work are green pumpkin I recommend going and watching there worm video and picking up some worms
I definitely need to get that lakemaster card so i can use the depth highlight. That seems like it really makes it easy to key on certain depths and/or depth changes that are holding fish
Watts Bar and Chicamagua are rated as the best bass fishing lakes in TN. Thinking about taking a trip down there next spring so I am really looking forward to your videos on it.
Welp... you have now made that lake an even more of a hotspot. Breaking down that lake to some is a big head scratcher. Great job on the vid, can't wait for more great info.👍
Awesome Awesome video Matt. Like I commented to Tim “Welcome to the Eastside”. IMO You guys have always put out the some of the very best content. But Lake Chickamauga is like so many of the lake in my area in the Piedmont of NC. So these breakdown vids you guys have started doing puts that content on a whole different level for this Sub. You’ve always said “you can use the techniques anywhere in the country”. But getting to see how you get to those techs. is going to be freak’n awesome. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Would love to see yall check out carters regulation lake in northwest GA. Can rise and drop +10 feet every day and has 30 lb strippers. Just be VERY careful if you take the big boat
REELFOOT LAKE !!! In Tiptonville Tenn !!! Breakdown that shallow / extremely heavy cover lake !!! I will even give you keys to my lake house and years of hotspot maps !!!
Thanks for the video--this was great info and amazingly helpful. However if there's anyway you could reduce the camera shake for future videos, it would make the viewing experience a bit better. Thanks again!
Matt: When you hold your camera by hand there is a tendency for it to move as you speak and gesture. You gesture a lot. You guys do vids all the time in which the camera is fixed or mounted. I’d say that’s a best practice.
Great info on using your electronics. I have a new Helix 9 and 7 on my Ranger Aluminum RT188. Learning how to use then down here in Central Fl. Where do you suggest I shop for the Lakemaster Card in my area ?
Attention*Attention*Attention* lol, Matt an Tim, please please link up with Ol’ Jwheelz Mr Jacob Wheeler an shoot a vid with him, I know you guys don’t really colab with anyone but that would be the sickest vid!!!
Can I meet up with you guys somewhere (I live close to Chickamauga) and get some help learning how to adjust the settings on my Helix to get a better/clearer image while I'm on the water?
Is "deep water" relative? For instance, if 20-30 FOW is "deep" in a 70' deep lake, is it also deep in a 120' deep lake? Or would you be looking for 30-40 FOW nearby shallow coves in a lake that deep? IOW, is 20-30 FOW generally considered deep regardless of what the max depth of a lake is?
What kind of truck camper is that behind you? Or is it yours? If so could you do a walk through? I’ve been in the market for one to travel to tournaments with
Ok so here is 1 question, how do you breakdown a bank fishing standpoint on a lake since fish go to deeper water later in the days to stay cool, I live in northern Michigan and don't have a boat for my wife and I to go fishing so we do a lot of bank fishing.
I’m no Matt or Tim but as a fellow bank basser I feel your pain. There are always shallow fish, typically I have found they tuck against the shadiest cover they can find and or they will move in and out of the shallows to feed. When that fails I have had some success fishing near areas where creek channels run close to or even up against the bank.
Hey guys, I’m out of San Diego, California. Seriously considering switching over to Humminbird. Solix/Mega 360, the whole deal. I really want it done right. Is there a shop, or someone you can recommend to do the work? Even if it’s up in north Cali, where you guys were at. I don’t mind the drive. I appreciate any help you can give me.
THANK YOU for all the incredible work you guys do to make us ALL better fishermen!
It’s fun to listen to someone who has passion for what they are talking about

Thanks for the feedback! We're just happy to help.
You guys do some of the best “how to” bass fishing videos. So informative and real life practicality for the weekend warriors. Thank you so much.
Matt, this video is GOLD! Thanks, it would be great to see your electronics on water too as you explore these proposed sweet spots.
The info you guys share on my home lake is the best thing I’ve seen on TH-cam. Thank you so much for the knowledge.
Matt please do a video on thermocline and atmospheric pressure some time..
Matt you have no idea how helpful these videos are for newer fisherman and those new to electronics also. This is seriously a game changer video for me. I haven’t been using my charts correctly apparently.
Awesome! We're just happy to help 👍
Another highly educational video. Sweet spots. Area for quick exit. So fundamental! Thank you. Hopefully I’ll learn to break down my local fisheries and become a better angler.
Great Vid!! Love figuring out points to fish at before heading out!
Glad to have you in the area. Was just on Chicamagua two weeks ago. That is a beautiful lake.
Thank you Matt! I really needed a lesson on finding the best place to start looking for fish on my lakes! Man I’m thankful for y’all and the things y’all teach, y’all are making me so much better than I ever was!
This is one of best videos on structure and what to look for on a map I would sent time in other areas that may not have produced fish Thanks
Possibly (for me) the most informative video in breaking down a body of water. I’m new to fishing from a boat and having electronics so maybe this is not as impressive to others, but thank you for this series of videos, fellas! Can’t wait to see what comes in the coming weeks from you guys. 🤙🏽
Great video, I hope that you will do this type of video every season of the year.
Would love to see this with Lake Cumberland. Its big and deep and can be a lot to take in. Great info! Thanks
Appreciate this video. Really good video Matt. Thanks for what you guys do. Welcome to Tn!
Well, now we get tips on how to fish in the southeast. Perfect!
Thanks guys!
This video is absolutely gold!! Solid information for trying to break down Ray Roberts. 👍🏻💯
Great video Matt helps alot to understand how to break things down. Cant wait for the rest of the series. ATB
Awesome video...I'll fishing the Chic tomorrow through the 21st . Great channel !
Hope to see you guys out there! Thank you for all the info!
This video was very well done! So much great info with real mapping examples. Thanks Matt and you guys keep up the good work. We certainly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.
Great stuff Matt !
Love these type of videos. So much to learn to become a more successful angler. Seems overwhelming even when watching Matt.
So excited to watch you guys break the new lake down! This will help a beginner tremendously! Thank you and good luck!
Excellent video. I acquired my first bass boat a few months ago so I'm new to mapping and using Electronics so this was extremely helpful.
Fantastic video! Great tips and some important in depth instruction. Thank you!
Best bass fishing channel on TH-cam hands down
I am coming with a small group of friends fishing Chick the first week of November.

Great video Matt. I would like to see more videos like this.
would like to see this topic covered on natural lakes
Ha! I have a Lance truck camper like that as well complete with two rod holders just like the one you have on yours. Love it.
Nice!! We love it too!

You guys are awesome. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
this is some great info for my trip next spring. im planning on stopping in on chickamauga on my way to guntersivlle.
Great information as usual. Great to have you in this area of the country.
I definitely need to get that lakemaster card so i can use the depth highlight. That seems like it really makes it easy to key on certain depths and/or depth changes that are holding fish
Even outside of CA you’re still dropping your old homies some gold nuggets 😁 Thanks Matt. Liking the video series you and Tim have been doing.
No fluff . Really helpful . Thx

Great job on the vid, can't wait for more great info.👍
62 years old and still learning thanks
Amazing! My wife and I are about to retire near this lake. This information is fantastic!

You're welcome Ken! We're happy to help.
Awesome info. Always great to watch.
Would absolutely love to see y’all visit Hartwell and break it down.. Especially July-Sept.... Been fishing this lake for 25yrs and it is TOUGH
Great video Matt, thanks!!!
Using a map/Google/electronics helps me go from fishing favorite spots to favorite patterns.
Thank you for all the great info
Here in N.C. the best bass spots seem to be creeks and reservoirs.
You guys are great, thanks for that.
Would love to see yall check out carters regulation lake in northwest GA. Can rise and drop +10 feet every day and has 30 lb strippers. Just be VERY careful if you take the big boat
Good information!
I use the navionics app on my phone to do this... works great...
Awesome stuff thanks guys
REELFOOT LAKE !!! In Tiptonville Tenn !!! Breakdown that shallow / extremely heavy cover lake !!! I will even give you keys to my lake house and years of hotspot maps !!!
Great Great video 🔥🔥🔥👊👊
Awesome video
Awesome Intro! Now how to choose the best lures for the sweet spots you find???
Thanks so much that’s is really useful
Thanks for the video--this was great info and amazingly helpful. However if there's anyway you could reduce the camera shake for future videos, it would make the viewing experience a bit better. Thanks again!
You guys are amazing. How about a day in the life of monster hunters hahaha 😆
MATT!!!!!!! Taking us along with you? I'm right here I live right here take me out!!! I've never even fished on a boat before.
Feel free to come down to Guntersville and break it down. I really need to get NAV card for Humminbird 858c.
@James Young on Gunter Mountain. 15 minutes from Goose pond.
We buy our tackle online (links to the cards are in the video description), I'm not sure where to shop in Florida.
Them lakes back east looks like large rivers. Us California's are use to large body of water...
That's because most lakes around here are rivers that were damned up into lakes.
Correct! Most man made lakes around here are created by damming rivers and larger streams/creeks.
Escape From LA! Congratulations, good luck to you all.
Sounds like the southern humidity, mold and temp swings are getting to ol Matty's sinus’s
Ha! My little girl brought home a Summer cold :-)
WELCOME TO TENNESSEE YALL!! come to J Percy Priest sometime!
Can you share your settings for your depth shading?
Matt you and tim need to come to carters lake here in northeast Georgia
I meant northwest
Attention*Attention*Attention* lol, Matt an Tim, please please link up with Ol’ Jwheelz Mr Jacob Wheeler an shoot a vid with him, I know you guys don’t really colab with anyone but that would be the sickest vid!!!
What color do you use for each range of depth on your mapping, to make it pop out? My color selection sucks
Can I meet up with you guys somewhere (I live close to Chickamauga) and get some help learning how to adjust the settings on my Helix to get a better/clearer image while I'm on the water?
Camper + bass boat? Goals man!
Just hooked up the boat and leavin the house....looks like Imma be a little late this morning! Lol, about 25 mins.....
What kind of truck camper is that behind you? Or is it yours? If so could you do a walk through? I’ve been in the market for one to travel to tournaments with
Its a Lance 855S and we love it! We've done several cross country hauls in it.
Guys at some point I'd like to see you guys on Tellico and see how you approach it...
Matt, I’ve got a tournament coming up at Alan Henry lake in west Texas. You got any tips for fishing lakes with trees EVERYWHERE? Thanks
You gotta pretend they are not there and Just fish the structure, the trees are a bonus.
Will we see more smallmouth fishing?
Ok so here is 1 question, how do you breakdown a bank fishing standpoint on a lake since fish go to deeper water later in the days to stay cool, I live in northern Michigan and don't have a boat for my wife and I to go fishing so we do a lot of bank fishing.

Also as a great example, pay attention to the info around the 19:00 mark.

Is there a shop, or someone you can recommend to do the work? Even if it’s up in north Cali, where you guys were at. I don’t mind the drive. I appreciate any help you can give me.
Hey guys, I have a Helix 9, is there anyway I can color code the depth on that unit like on yours?
