When it was announced and I saw how much effort the show runners were putting into it, I told my brother that I was excited for the live action and I though it would be good. My brother, a person who doesn’t watch one piece and wasn’t following the project like I was, said it would fail like every other live action. Jump forward to today, my brother is caught up to the manga which he started reading after watching the live action. I’d say it was a success 😂
he read fast indeed
Damn.... I need to stop slacking those pages aren't gonna read themselves.
The moment Oda give Inaki the hat was such a beautiful moment😢
I, too, want more stories about platonic adult friendships that take place in a world that's not overly dystopian/depressing and not just more romance-centric stories.
tbf the world of One Piece IS overly dystopian^^
@@Himolino Sure, when you actually look what's going on. But it doesn't FEEL dystopian most of the time because of the general vibe of the show. It doesn't feel depressed, and I think that was what the Bad Doodles dude was getting at.
Many people in One Piece are often very hopeful (and Luffy is like the poster boy of Hope Incarnate). And I think that really makes a difference compared to...say....a show like Game of Thrones, where your faves are constantly dying and everything feels really bad.
I remember many times where I felt depressed after watching an episode of Game of Thrones. I don't ever remember feeling depressed after watching an episode of One Piece.
I hope that makes sense.
depends on where you are@@Himolino
@@napstabuuyt9672 do you mean "where you are" in the story or "where you are" living in the real world?
in the one piece world@@Himolino
The adaptation accomplished 2 things for me where Jacob actually made me like usopp in the east blue saga and Emily made me fall in love with Nami head over heels again. Taz, Iñaki, and Mackenyu also were perfect picks too! The dumb trio. Also they brought mihawk to life wtf how. I can't wait for Muppet chopper season 2 🎉
Edit: not just the crew but every character was a solid portrayal or in usopp's girlfriends case a lot better
Mihawk charisma is out of the chart.
Oda said it was the perfect time to make the live action because the technology was ready, but he also meant to say that all the perfect actors were born and ready to pick up their mantels lmao
Jacob really sold me on how Usopp's tall tales were part of his charm. That aspect of his used to annoy me a lot in the East Blue Saga. I thought it only worked on Luffy bc Luffy is so easily amused like that, but I get it now after seeing Jacob's performance.
I think the whole Syrup Village arc is just better, Kaya is way more fleshed out and even though Usopp didn't get as much screentime expanding on his relationship with Kaya and focusing the action around protecting her in her own house made for a stronger introduction that shows his strengths as a character more
Was actually screaming from the roof tops since 2017 that One Piece Live Action was gonna be great. I had a lot of faith in it because of the fact that the people in charge were very passionate and I love the Speed Racer live action and I know that one was good for the same reasons OPLA ended up being good so I saw the writing on the wall from the beginning. Very happy others were on board as well!
Before they showed any of the teasers/trailers I was concerned but as soon as they kept coming out I was instantly sold. The trailers were so well done and kept getting better. Also watching the videos with the cast interact and having them do fun game show stuff really sold it too.
I tried reading the manga before but couldn't get far so I don't know much about One Piece. But the live action was unexpectedly soooo good. There was so much passion put into it. It makes me want to pick up the manga again.
Also seeing that little clip of Nagisa and Karma, and with this video talking about live action, immediately made me remember the live action AssClass movies...
As I get deeper into the Anime, one thing I notice is that even if we ignore filler and just go by canon, there is a lot of "wasted time" in the different arcs that the live action did a tremendous job condensing down to the brass tacks of it all, and it makes for a much snappier and more kinetic adventure. I'm sure die hards will miss some of the meandering, as there are a lot of funny moments, but I am hoping for the rest of the series to smartly condense everything, and that in 6 seasons we are able to end it at the time skip.
I like how oda is just there to say what could and couldn't be in the show, its so good.
I dunno who will get to play Franky in the OPLA, but hopefully he’ll be the greatest Florida Man of our dreams.
I missed your One Piece reviews so much❤❤❤ Looking forward for the Long Ring Long Island or Water Seven Review and don't worry, we can wait(at least for me)💕💕💕
As a one piece who's been fan for at least 15 years I recommended to any non-op fans to watch op live action before it came out. I so was exited to watch it. I also follow the production since it was announce it was going to be adapted.
The best way I can describe the live action One Piece is if Pirates of the Caribbean was directed by Tim Burton
My roommate and I were both pretty hyped for the show just based on the passion going behind the project.
I think if zoro used any NAMED attack its lion song
tbh I also had a sneaking suspicion that the LA would be good if not something that I knew I'd like. I usually have a feel like this for things like movies as well
6:52 Oh my GOD I literally laughed out loud. Perfect analogy
Jim Carrey Sasuke is so, SOOOO cursed.
foxy is peak and no one will ever change my mind on that
I am going to put these spoilers here for those who only have ever watched the live action series. Some of the major reasons why these adaptations fail is because of ideological shoehorning. One Piece already has the Kamabakka Kingdom and so remains relatively unscathed
dam man ur videos are so good u deserve more subscribers
Hollywood Live_Action curse
There are a lot of Japan love-action anime adaptation that are actually great
Bro Rurouni Kenshin broke the curse This was a great show though
Luffy stole all the food lol
I'm glad you mentioned excessive anti-Asian racism in Hollywood. Yes, I am in the same boat as you - One Piece has a great chance of success because it doesn't need to hire many Asian actors. Basically just Zoro and Hollywood can tolerate one token Asian. This is why I keep telling everyone Attack On Titan would work in Hollywood since it's basically full of white people and very little white-wash needed - Hollywood has a few half-Asian actors whom they insist are full Asians. The studio execs/producers and writer just don't feel Asians are attractive or interesting enough for Hollywood productions, even when Asian actors and productions keep proving them wrong. It's not going away and I already saw that they plan to white/black wash the living shit out of My Hero Academia, a show took place in Japan with almost every character Asian.
Brother 😂 don't show mineta when reffering to a hard place
I’m not the biggest sanji fan but New Jersey sanji is the greatest😂
How dare you spit in the Guardians trilogy
I did have a small fear that Oda might get manipulated whether by cultural differences or pushing their own political ideas on him. They KINDA did with a couple questionable choices but over all the show is a banger. Got some REALLY GOOD parts in this show like Garp actually teaching Coby important battle strategies like thinking out of the norm of a typical grunt marine. Even Helmepo getting humbled is a good teaching method and gaining a friend in Coby. I loved the Zeff and Sanji chemistry from the flashback to the goodbye. I loved the two veteran old men scene with Garp and Zeff talking about the next generation. Which IRONICALLY fits the time Oda planned it out AND ON A BLUE MOON NO LESS. Oda loves astrology btw.
Da king is back baby he neva miss
Just glad to see 4Kids Sanji get representation here
but why and WHAT they DID to MERRY!!?!!!?
The thing about one piece fans is that they are patient. If you take months between videos what about it?
I love your animation
Like your work dude!
PS. Yes we do care! And it DOES make sense WITHIN the universe its set in.
Anything Oda is involved with is always good.
I expected it to be good as soon as I heard it was being made by fans and worked with Oda heavily
Iñaki the goat
Watching the vid and seeing a hetalia référence made my day
0:01 teking101 did and his fan base ( me incloded )
Ofc
Nah they did bad they didn't give usuopp a big nose
I knew it
Honestly... i dont think it was that good. 6/10.
Main problem being stale acting and Luffy being... not very good. Definately lacking emotions that felt genuine. Zoro being way too serious than fun loving goofy. Also the changes made, are rushing the story along for such FEW episodes.
There werre cool scenes but often minimized for no reason (see Kuro fight).
I don’t like one piece live action 2:07
Fairly reasonable video until he said that adaptations are too white. How is this not an ideological take? 👎
Go watch Iñaki meeting up with Oda and Mayumi Tanaka. Those videos will make you tear up. He's truly this universe's Luffy. ❤
Glad for all his success both oda and inaki
The way him and Oda run into each other's arms 😭😭😭 He IS Oda's real life Luffy.
He honestly is. He even spent some time sailing at sea just for adventure. He truly is Luffy incarnate
@@jeremyearley9162yep, he was sailing with some people in the caribbean for around 3 months in early 2023, then managed to get back in time for the brazil tudum event!
I wasn't prepared to hope for it to be good, because of all the live action adaptations that are not good. But I'd happily give the show an 8.5 out of 10, with Buggy pushing it up to a 9 on charisma alone. Some room for improvement and I'm interested to see how they portray Logia and Zoan powers in S2.
You think 4 months is a long time to a One Piece fan? That's like 10 chapters. We've waited literal decades for plot points to become relevant again.
I loved the Live Action so much. Also was awesome having my country get to show off our talents. Proudly South African 🇿🇦
Oda is really hands on in this one, took a couple breaks in manga too so he can look and supervise in the set. As a manga reader I was sad at first but this is legacy and magnum opus, Im pretty positive too going on in the OPLA the changes they did is not really bad at all, as they were approved by Oda himself.
My purists friends stayed away from this LA, they could not accept and grow. But so glad the world got to know of OP and a universal praise came along by Non-fans even more.
I also always thought it would be a success just because all of all the marketing info we got and because Oda was behind it. I also started the anime series in January though.
I knew the OP was gonna be good the second I saw the sets and casting months, as well as director, in advance. (Or at least it gave me hope.) So glad it ended up great because this series needed a condensed version with up-to-date amazing visuals and information used from future chapters. What's even better is it's finally in the western mainstream outside of anime fans now.
Casting was not the problem with 4Kids Sanji. David Moo is a PHENOMENAL actor. His directors told him to do a bizarre Brooklyn accent and was given a terrible script. If you ever want to see him in a competently directed dub, check out Slayers NEXT.
Big agree. Usopp's lack of screentime is my biggest concern. In the text given to us by OPLA I don't see why Zoro or even Luffy would want Usopp around.
I didn't expect the Live Action to be good and honestly I felt like I was the odd one out as so many folks were watching the trailers and getting hyped. Partly on me, I don't watch trailers for things I know I'm going to watch. I'm extremely pleased with how it came out and I hope it only improves from here. And I desperately hope they don't rush, rushing and condensing too much will slowly kill the adaptation by either becoming too breakneck to be enjoyable, or by having altered so much that down the line things simply do not operate correctly. Personally hoping the start of the Alabasta Arc itself is how season 3 starts, letting season 2 give time to Loguetown -> Reverse Mountain -> Whiskey Peak -> Little Garden -> Drum Island
"I'm surprised you're still with me given my last One Piece video was months ago"
Me, who only recently binged a bunch of One Piece reaction/analysis videos and somehow ended up watching 3 of yours without realizing you were the same person:
"wait you mean you made these before the live action dropped????"
I've noticed an odd little reoccurrence when it comes to Sanji being a simp. Men seem to really hate that side of him to the point of not being able to stand it at all. While girls love that side of him, finding it absolutely hilarious.
“Holy criest on a corn dog” is my new favorite quote.
I indeed loved the Live-Action.
Almost as much as I loved rubbing the announcement of a 2nd season in my brother's face!
(His excuse for not watching was that even if its great, it's not the kind of series Netflix is smart enough to not cancel)
Side note: Looking forward to the reaction to Water 7!
I had hopes in it cause of Oda's involvement, but still I went in with low expectations and they were surpassed very slightly
Its storytelling elements that I enjoy in original series that I miss.
We learn about where Arlong came from hundreds of episodes later, OP is known for long term pay offs and the LA doesnt do that. Also, it changed the nature of racism in it. One in manga hits so much more horrifying
They left Hachi out all together even though he is such a cool character, so if budget constraints do that to East Blue, what will happen in grandline??
Everyone in Cocoyasi village would die for Luffy, but in LA they stepped aside when marines came (also, what lameass party was that, though thats just me overlooking). Thats really bad mishandling of side characters and Usopp got treated as side character too. It scares me that he might become a comic relief, while in OP, everyone in main crew fills that role
12:22 he already knows about boa hancock lmao
Well said. But fr though I need mental help with how fast I'm getting through the anime. In the past two months I have crushed 275 episodes roughly, in big part due to binging the goated arc of Water 7/Enies Lobby. I'm too hooked bro.
It's ok I forgive you. Now make the one piece video!!!!
For the begging part of the video I was never imaging ever watching the show and still can't
Wait do you think avatar isnt a western show made by white people
Did it spoil you on Garp or did you see that right before?
My mom absolutely loved it😂
whats your thought on Superhero movies ? *Spits* LMAO ...such a way with words :D
My only basis that this could be great was the fact that Oda was involved in the making of OPLA 😂😂 so you definitely cover more ground reason on your belief LOL
Oh you also start calling him GODA welcome to the cult we're happy to have you ✨️ /J
It's true tho One Piece has this charm where it cover all ground on being nuanced, tragic and emotional- while also being so fun, endearing and hilarious. The superhero movie slander tho lmao why would you say something so bold yet so brave 😂😂
0:10 - Me, I was fighting the haters since the showrunner showed up at reverie 7(the OP TH-camrs event)
Tbh i think an ending like the real treasure is the journey / friends we made along the way would have sucked being in this series not because it would be a bad idea but its kinda depressing when you got people like crocodile blackbeard and half of the original 4 emperors murdering people and just making the world a worse place to be in over basicly whut would be nothing to them
the one piece
the one piece is realllll
The reasons I've been loving one piece I've found are the same reasons my adventures with superman fucks so hard
I knew it could because in all honesty one piece's story is more meaning and universal touching. Don't get me wrong other shows are great stories but op is better more meaning .
I do watch anime to enjoy the over the top American characters who show up.
Where’s the tribe cool crew explained with bad doodles 😟
On Season 2, my money is on Robin, I bet they're gonna do so right with casting her, the right tan, the right woman, the right figure, the right personality, BAM, my wife in full bloom, maybe it's the most likely they'll do right! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
And especially Portigas D Ace can picture in my head
3:26 bro u better take loan now as 72% interest rat is very very less she gave zoro money for 300% interest rate and zoro is still in debt
Wholesome whacky adventure with lore and serious themes? Have you watched adventure time????
I expected it to be good from the beginning.
I did. As soon as I heard Matt Owens at Reverie I had high hopes for the series. There are still things about it that I don't like, but all in all, they delivered
Wasn't Cowboy Bebop made for mostly a western audience tho? Or maybe I'm confusing that part with Big O.
my DAD has watched one piece live action before even knowing about the anime
10:23 “and it p¡ssed off our teachers”
😂
well all because filtered by the Goda unlike cowboy bebop and death note that they just purchase the franchise and let the other butcher it and most of the actor know one piece so they can immerse in their character
As a long time one piece fan I gotta say…. It’s terrible. I don’t know why everyone is jumping on board with this one.
7:43 Naurto at least has blond hair and blue eyes, a no Asian my be fitting for him at least
I expected it to be good a while ago. Unlike a lot of the alleged anime fan channels bitching about the show before it even came out or even a teaser trailer was released. I did the research and paid attention to the showrunner and crew.
I would hate it for you one piece fans if the one piece is the friends you made along the way… 😅
1:25 Bold opinion, I like it.
I was betting it wouldn't be good based on some of the leaks (and that converting animation to live action has only gone well like twice). Glad to be proven wrong
I cant get myself to watch it man
WHERE IS WATER 7 😡😡😡😡😡🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 i NEED it
You should watch RRR most anime like movie you’ll ever seen.
honestly I'm hoping that with live actions Zoros dislike of shouting finishing move names it's part of an extended ark. like imagine if he keeps on denying it all the way up to and through allabasta only to be fighting Mr.1. He's on the back foot, and starts sensing the breath of the world or whatever, go's for that final attack, and for the first time, says his attack's name. that would be pretty hype.
Still waiting for enies lobby since it's clear you have seen it ❤
I DID give a shit about the real speakers at Arlong Park. I think they should have been snails.
I watched all of it
Who doesn't watch all of it??
0:02 ME!
Ibdidnt like speed racer, Sorry!
8:22 bro I got my parent to watch it and she liked it
