As someone who practiced martial arts, I actually really liked the fight choreography in One Piece. They zoomed out enough that I could see their full motions AND also I could tell who knew how to fight in real life due to how they held their weight while moving, how the swung, how the ducked, etc. So much better than all the zoomed in and shaky camera quick movement Marvel and DC fights.

If they can adapt one piece they can adapt anything with a crew that actually has the money and talent to do it right. Most anime adaptions are poorly made cash grabs with almost no budget.
I’m thinking that by the time they get to Gecko Moria or Big Mom, they’ll have enough good will to get Marvel sized budgets and then use the same tech as Thanos and Hulk.
As a person who has never watched one piece and don't have any plans to, I can confirm that Netflix kept recommending me the live action one piece above any other live action animes. Jood gob Netflix
I'm really hoping season 2 they show off more of what a dumb-as-bricks moron Zoro can be and let him crack a few more jokes and smiles like when he cut Helmeppo's hair and bragged about it. My hope is that this is remembered as the worst season of the show, that going forward they get better at finding that middle-ground of adaptation. Biggest danger they're going to run into is the temptation to rush, condense too much too fast because One Piece is not a series that can handle too much abridging without later events losing important context and impact.

Anime/cartoons/animation are *charicatures.* Theyre exaggerated to the max. If you just dial it back to "reality" levels, you will be fine. What did One Piece do? They dialed it back within the frame of the suspension of disbelief. And voila, it fakking worked.

@@Ytinasniiable Yeah, that's the only downside and the humor not always landing but the opening and the last sequence of the movie are still unmatched for me. That's what peak live action anime looks like

No, because its not any good. Anime is anime BECAUSE its larger than life, OP is a prime example of this as the live action has none of the scope or gravitas of the anime.
It worked because it wore its source material on its sleeve. And what I mean is that it's not apologetic of it's world and story and even it's corny moments but it's also using the medium in a way that everything (almost at least) aligns. That is why I said it wears it's material on a sleeve shirt instead of a cosplay 😂 I also think that's why a lot fans and non fans accept the many things that would have killed other anime adaptations (hair colors, most special effects ect). Hell some non fans are even more accepting (some fans complained about Luffy's "over exhausted" line while some non fans called it a unique characteristic 😂)
They already said that they will do a 2nd maybe 3rd season. Cause deep down the know the can’t portray all the weird models in One Piece without CGI and to get to Thanos CGI Level you would need waaaaaay more money. Thanos is one of the greatest CGI Models out there but it had over 5 different studios working on it.
Anime live adaptation made by western motion picture, maybe. But I've watch many anime/manga live adaptation made by Japanese motion pictures, from drama, thriller to action genre, both series or movies, they are alright. Unfortunately, many of it are inaccessible via legal platform unless it's a big budget or popular, but available in Asian movies & series piracy sites. Because all start from Asian movies fans making sub and sharing it.
I didnt even noticed that characters are from different countries. You dont have time to notice petty things when you have actual fun on screen. Thats how you really do diversification
The reason why Hollywood constantly fails at making live action anime is because they’re made by people who have no passion for the medium. Just look at live action Cowboy bebop for instance. The people who worked on it hated anime. One piece live action worked because it was made by people who were fans of One Piece.

Just a sidenote regarding Arlong's adaptation, and the reason why I personally had issues with it : it's only much, much later in the manga that the parallels with the fishmen and black people are confirmed. What that does is, it allows for some setup, and then recontextualizes some encounters in the past and gives them so much more sense. Doing it this way does change Arlong as a character and makes his drive different. Because in the manga/anime, even though he's got this past as somone who basically fought slavers his whole life, contrary to the multiple characters who were doing the same you can see that Arlong was never really ideologically driven. His motivation was always his bloodlust and his sadism, his hatred was only the excuse he gave himself to be brutal. I personally like this idea of presenting him as a "fishman supremacist" and basically a huge racist piece of shit, only to later show you that he had more layers to him. All without excusing his actions or giving him any form of redemption at that. And in general, I also think it's better that way. Because in the live action, it sort of gives the feeling that it's coming out of nowhere, isn't really adressed by anyone, and doesn't put Arlong as a character in any more meaningful place than he would have been without it at that given point. One Piece is a huge amount of things that are setup, only to see a payoff about 600 episodes later, which participates in its worldbuilding feeling huge. I personally hope that they won't follow up on that trend of blowing their load too quickly out of fear that the show will not be on air long enough for the payoff. Also props for the Nojiko explanation. I admit I was in that crowd, rolling my eyes when I saw her thinking "there we go, netflix done did it again". But I'd forgotten this was originally the whole point of Nami's backstory, and that it wasn't adressed verbally as much in the LA as in the manga. Also I hope Zoro's actor tones it down a bit, he's the only one that felt off from the original character IMO.
It's definitely a weird spot to put it. When the slavery stuff gets reintroduced in the manga, it recontextualizes the fishmen(in time for a lot of not asshole Fishmen in general and Hatchan's redemption specifically), it introduces a new super bad villain faction(who still practice slavery) and it shows the two meeting(_that_ moment with Hatchan). This is the leadup to the big finale of Sabaody Archipelago and everything resulting from it, and is an important part of Fishman island later on(but not _that_ much later on). But it has absolutely no place when we're building up Arlong as the bad guy of this arc. They just needed Arlong to have something to blabber on about 'cause dialogue is more affordable than action, and this was what they settled on. They even cut Hatchan, lol
@@Kriss_ch. Exactly. The way I like to see it is, it's almost like a kid discovering racism in real life. At first you don't think of fishmen as any different, and you see Arlong as just a bastard who thinks they're the strongest and deserve better just because of that. But then you get attached to a lot of fishmen, and BOOM, historical context, sociological repercussions, in a way that makes you very involved because now you see how it's been affecting characters you've cared about for a long time. The issue as it's presented in the manga feels visceral and profoundly repulsive thanks to how slow it's been cooking. It just makes it all so impactful and sudden. The manga/anime makes it feel like it breaks your innocence in a way that Live Action really failed to do with Arlong here.
I disagree with the Arlong part for revealing his backstory too soon. I can see from your perspective that in the anime they revealed it 300 episodes into the story which made it feel like a big payoff. But since we’re dealing with live action and the onslaught of terrible adaptations recently, it was clearly NOT a guarantee this show was even getting a second season. Also, the narrative change to include the fishmen-slavery storyline in Arlong’s speeches and interactions was a way to make the “big bad” of the season actually feel compelling and not some annoying bastard who abuses his power and kills innocents. I just felt Arlong was better in the live action as the major antagonist of the season’s finale because of his troubled past. Besides, at the time Oda was writing the weekly jump for East Blue, he hadn’t developed the story fully enough to realize their major potential in the later arcs; the East Blue arc at the time was just a series of semi-connected anthology stories. At least with the live-action, they already have exposure to the majority of the One Piece story, therefore they have some creative liberties to include some story arcs earlier in the present to make the narrative more cohesive to the end.
@@montenegroafro4454 You're most likely correct, it does seem like they included this bit about Arlong because they weren't sure the show would see another season. But I'd argue it's a hasty way to treat that part of the character that came out of fear and uncertainty. And yeah, Oda likely hadn't fleshed out all of the worldbuilding around slavery and fishmen at the time, but similarily you've got stuff like Sanji casually dropping he's from the North Blue some 600 episodes or so before you actually get a payoff for that. It's proof that there is a base concept, and that time only makes it feel more rewarding once it pays off. The base concept of Arlong was "he's a racist PoS", was expanded with Hachi later showing you that "actually, a lot of fishmen are cool even if they used to be in Arlong's crew." and culminates by showing you his hatred had an origin. This interpretation of Arlong IMO was also less compelling than what was originally in the manga. He was much less intimidating, felt a lot less dangerous too. All of Arlong Park felt like it didn't go for long enough to actually explore that theme as a whole. IMO it made Arlong more forgettable as a villain, almost like a generic "I'm a villain but I have a tragic backstory". when he was in fact the crown jewel of East Blue villains. One Piece shows that there are many ways different fishmen have handled their condition. When confronted with the hipocrisy of doing to humans what they've endured as fishmen, we were shown three different types of reactions. Some went "Oh damn, you're right." Others went "That's the point!" and Arlong just went "lmao who gives a shit they're humans" I feel like it's a mistake to make a very simple villain more complex, especially when your format demands that you wrap it up in short notice. But I respect your viewpoint, and if you liked it better that way I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I simply hope the show learns to take its time with other things, and that they won't all be rushed out ASAP like this one was.

And they did a great choice of knowing when to tone down the “anime-ness” where it count too.
3:10 keep ‘em coming sisyphus prime reference
3:39 - No one can say that Ntlanhla Morgan Kutu wasn't _perfect_ as Lucky Roux. I was watching the show with my father and I had to pause and go show him what Roux looks like in the manga. The man looks _identical_ to Roux. Also, Roux's race is irrelevant to the character (you could argue that everyone's is, because the story takes place in a different universe, but that's a whole other can of worms).
You know what’s crazy. We still haven’t gotten a banger video on Mob
And that's his profile picture
That Darker Than Black ost in the background is such a nice vibe.
4:59 I would like to nominate this moment for one of the funniest editing moments of the year idk why this made me laugh so much.
2:16 well thats a fucking lie. You can't get 300 episodes in and THEN get to Alabasta since it runs from 62-135. I know you think it's okay to be hyperbolic when it comes to One Piece because it's long, but you should still check your facts
Good video otherwise
I knew the live action was goin be good as soon as I saw buggy for the first time
bro coping hard over his last video love it 🤣
im not in the majority of OP fans who praise the live action to heaven i always love OP so if the live action stay to the source material or at least still have the same vision(which the live action did) as the manga I'll still enjoy it
but as someone who enjoy the manga more than anime or live action i still have some personal criticism with the live action
but ngl seeing and hearing pthe people who never heard One Piece or even anime/manga in general saying the show is 9/10, 10/10 or even say it's a masterpiece is really warmth my hearth
I thought the bad fight scripting was intentional. And honestly, I really like that they leaned into it. Makes it more "authentic" somehow? I know that sounds strange, but that's how it felt. Great vid!
Okay so back up your point show evidence
You know, I didnt know when exactly, but I had a feeling you were going to make a video on this. It was only a matter of time, and boy am I glad I was right about thinking that.
I ain't reading 300 comments to see if somebody already pointed it out but there's a minor character in One Piece named Nasu that lowkey kinda looks like your avatar lol
Nahh they really gave Nojiko full armament haki
everyone forgot bout the raroni kenshin l.a.
The crazies are gonna flip out when Alvida eats the devil fruit and turns into an absolute smoke show. Especially cause she will have to be recasted.
You know dang well that they will leave the actress as she is
@@lutherholayeahme7449 That actress better start working out and starving herself lmao
Dude that Arlong theme GOOOOOEEEESSSS!!!!! 💨💨💨 🔥 🔥🔥🔥
$18 million an episode, huh? And Rings of Power was $89 million an episode. Makes me curious as to where all that money went...
The gum gum moves made me laugh harder then the anime and i loved it.
Aye also speaking of adaptations the erased adaptation on Netflix 0retty fiya, and alice in borderlands go hard
8:05 song ?
whats the background theme at 8:01 called its kinda heat ngl
i couldn't vibe with the show after the first episode, but i might pick it up again
nasu the youtuber i can relate to the most 💀
If they can adapt one piece they can adapt anything with a crew that actually has the money and talent to do it right.
Bro even kyuranger didnt get this lucky
Wasn't Kenshin's adaptation pretty good?
I heard the Jigen Movie of Lupin III was solid.👌🏾
Yes. The kenshin live action movies are in some ways better than the anime. This just tells me he didnt see the kenshin live actions.
@@dragoonprime9829 Yeah, honestly, seeing the fight sequences in the last Kenshin movie left me completely breathless, like I can't begin to imagine how much the actors had to train to be able to swing swords so fast and with such precision
@@LuisSierra42 100%
@@LuisSierra42 Takeru Satoh had 3 months to prepare for Kenshin and he did almost all of his fight choreography and stunts. I remember reading his blogs during the time they were filming the first movie and at one point he said that there wasn't a day that he wasn't in pain.
It's not hard to be better than the Netflix Death Note movie lol. If only every curse could be broken that easily. :)
Anyway, solid video and everything. Let's hope live action One Piece sets a trend. Fingers crossed.
Ehh it probably wouldn’t have been very good if oda didn’t have direct input
Hopefully
@@Nothisndhdudjdjdj I mean, duh? When you’re adapting something media related into a different form, having the original creator is always a game changer. Look at marvel movies with Stan Lee
What about Oldboy? That was based off a manga.
dunno. people might want to check out Netflix adaptation of the anime "Erased".
12:53 it’s sad this didn’t happen with live action Ben 10
It’s sad to hear you say once piece isn’t for you but the things you liked from the live action stem from the roots in the anime the friendship the way they bounce off eachother and even the adventures but yeah good video
Rurouni Kenshin was the first one.
Bruh, I can’t with all these comments hating for the sake of hating 😂
They can’t accept that it succeeded in being a good live action anime compared to other ones
New upload, but imma watch this later as it's my bedtime
Wait, what is Arlong now?? Lmao that caught me off guard
They made Nojiko ugly though, and got mostly everyone else very close
It IS unnatural when they try to make a 1:1 adaption.
One Piece didnt.
They FINALLY reqlized what Ive been saying for 20 years.
Anime/cartoons/animation are *charicatures.*
Theyre exaggerated to the max.
If you just dial it back to "reality" levels, you will be fine.
What did One Piece do?
They dialed it back within the frame of the suspension of disbelief.
And voila, it fakking worked.
One piece is the third good live action anime. The Steins;Gate stage play and the Alita Battle Angel movie already did a great job.
Speed racer is great, but largely difficult to argue is actually live action, feels kinda more like inverse Roger rabbit: real people existing in a cartoon world
@@Ytinasniiable Yeah, that's the only downside and the humor not always landing but the opening and the last sequence of the movie are still unmatched for me. That's what peak live action anime looks like
Would the musicals for BSD, Death Note, and MHA count as a live action? I'd argue they're good, but who knows.
@@Ytinasniiableit’s also a lot more over the top than the original series
THE ONE PIECE IS REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't know i needed to hear Garp with an Irish accent 😅
Irish accent lol okay ba k up your point
Just a small FYI: It is canon that Arlong is a victim of racism himself and that this fuels his hatred towards humans. Still good video
You cant understand something so complex like whats beyond the event horisen or if you can break the anime curse, the quotom physics is too complex and intrisic, you might as well do the miles of yodel con..
What’s the name of the first ost in the beginning of the video? I think it’s from Pokémon it sounds so familiar
How dare you besmirch the name of the great Krieg. You'll regret this when he becomes the Pirate King like he's going to.
That is why I said it wears it's material on a sleeve shirt instead of a cosplay 😂
I also think that's why a lot fans and non fans accept the many things that would have killed other anime adaptations (hair colors, most special effects ect). Hell some non fans are even more accepting (some fans complained about Luffy's "over exhausted" line while some non fans called it a unique characteristic 😂)
Now compare the fighting scenes of the witcher with these ones 😂
Jesus Christ I didn’t know it was $18M per episode
Respect the Rurouni kenshin live action movies
They already said that they will do a 2nd maybe 3rd season. Cause deep down the know the can’t portray all the weird models in One Piece without CGI and to get to Thanos CGI Level you would need waaaaaay more money. Thanos is one of the greatest CGI Models out there but it had over 5 different studios working on it.
Gonna fast track finishing the season to watch this
Anime live adaptation made by western motion picture, maybe. Because all start from Asian movies fans making sub and sharing it.
alice in borderland was pretty well made imo
2:01 bro even the arabic dub didn’t do that 💀
I didnt even noticed that characters are from different countries.
Yeah Luffy's actor is really good
He brings that latin American and even israeli type of charm i love luffy so much for
Donno what its called but luffy and usopp both have it so im guessing its from somewhere in africa? Maybe Morocco? Im mostly familiar with it from my own country and latin american stuff ive seen from third world tournament
S-Tier sponsor transition big bro
7:16 some are good. FMA has its moments

Ngl I don’t like one piece anime. I’ve tired dozens of times. But this live action was good made me watch the anime again. But still couldn’t get into the anime. It’s so boring I really want to love this anime.
Then, why are you here? You don’t like the enemy of course you’re not gonna like the live action stop trying to create outrage because it’s really pat

No, the rurouni kenshin movies did
Just a sidenote regarding Arlong's adaptation, and the reason why I personally had issues with it : it's only much, much later in the manga that the parallels with the fishmen and black people are confirmed.
Some went "Oh damn, you're right." Others went "That's the point!" and Arlong just went "lmao who gives a shit they're humans"
I feel like it's a mistake to make a very simple villain more complex, especially when your format demands that you wrap it up in short notice.
But I respect your viewpoint, and if you liked it better that way I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I simply hope the show learns to take its time with other things, and that they won't all be rushed out ASAP like this one was.
the only reason this was good was because oda retained control and held netflix by the balls
