    That fault was my very first electronic repair on my TV about 3 years ago. I had absolutely no idea about what I was doing ( I have little better understanding now thanks to Sorin) and I successfully replaced the diode after a few trials and errors and got an extra 2 years out of that TV. I let you imagine (or remember) how satisfied I was when I plugged the TV back and it worked. I was the king of the world! two years later the same fault occurred, replaced the diode and.....cracked the screen putting it back together. That TV is now my testing / practice / donor board. It has a special place in my heart...I mean experience.

    i want to thank you for the advice about the samsung tv, i have just repaired a 40 inch Samsung smart tv version (ie : Model No : UE40F6670SB Model) and the P.S.U board has EXACTLY the same lay out, so when i put a "solder blob" on the SAME SPOT that you did...IT WORKED!! (proving ...like you said.....that the top LED strip that is behind the screen is slightly faulty), BUT...it's STILL a very good picture!! . . NICE ONE!! . . . Thanks again!!

      This is not the correct way to repair this issue. The LED should be replaced. They cost pennies. If you dont replace the LED, there will be a patch of darkness on the screen, and the remaining LEDs will fail quicker, too. Also, in electronics and TV repair since 1974. Remember to back the brightness off a few notches, too, after the fix. That's what blows them in the first place.

    You should not just bridge out the faulty LED on the light bar like you suggested. Yes it will work for some time but If you bridge out the faulty LED you will put additional stress on the remaining LED's and they will blow also. I have fixed several LED strips and its easy to replace an individual LED once you take the screen apart. I use a small heat plate and heat the strip from beneath to remove and replace the faulty LED. Its a time consuming process but that's the correct way to fix the issue or replace the complete bar. The other thing to do is turn down the back light to about 50-70% as that will extend the life of those LED strips.The manufactures push the LED strips to their limits when the back light is cranked up to 100% and that will shorten the life of those strips. The LED strips are failing even on TV's that are within their warranty period due to the excessive stress on the back light LED's.

      If the LEDs are in series and they are constant current driven, short one LED should not modify the others because the LED driver should try keep the same constant current, so theoretically it will lower the voltage.

    • @MrBesmir7
      @MrBesmir7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should test if are constant current.. some TV have constant voltage

    • @KB1UIF
      @KB1UIF ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@neteinfo9111 I agree with your theory, however if that is the case why do I find strips with multiple leds that have failed. Some go short some go open. I believe the less stress you can put the led strips under the better.
      The other reason why not to short out a faulty led is you will end up with a dark patch on the screen. Don't bodge the repair, replace any faulty LEDs they cost pennies.

    Sorin myr friend, thanks again for making us learn even more. Can you please detail your trace routing how you reached that small smd transistor and how you realized if you bridged the transistor the set will overpass the protection ?.

    • @electronicsrepairschool
      @electronicsrepairschool  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      you can see there, one pin from relay goes to plus and the other goes to the smd transistor and also to a optocoupler. Thats mean if you short the relay only, will be not enough coz the smd transistor will shutdown the power supply anyway. So i bridged the transistor, in this way the relay is on all the time and optocoupler aswell

    I have that model on F6400. It was the WiFi module which was dead! That's why it looped. If you disconnect it, the issue is solved. Simple as that. I'm still using the TV today after disconnecting some 4 years later!

  • @maxwarfield6699
    @maxwarfield6699 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, at 26:50 you bridged the SMD transistor to what, a ground track? Also, I thought that it was an optocoupler’s job to monitor AND to shut down things when something goes weird, how is it, that in this case, it’s an SMD transistor that can shut down operations? Please explain. Thank you kindly

    I made a lot of money taking in lots of samsungs with the click of death. There was a whole bunch of samsungs that had used 10v capacitors on a 12v rail and the caps had blown. Many just failed without actually popping. A quick replacement of a few 70 cent parts and they were better then new!

With the TV energized, I disconnected the ribon cable that goes to the main board and the screen turned blue, so I assumed it was not the damaged screen, I have been looking on ebay and I have found the original power supply parts, do you think that replacing the board will solve the problem?...thanks

    This guy is a genius. I had the exact same issue with my 65” Samsung LED. I spent ages trying to figure the problem out. Eventually I gave up and ordered a complete new power supply PCB. It resolved the issue for me. I did not have any LED line issues. I would still love to know what was wrong with the clicking power supply PCB.

    • @will_doherty
      @will_doherty 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I suspect the backlight issue wasn't the cause of the problem with this tv, or with yours either. The transistor that Sorin shorted is fed power from an auxiliary winding on the standby transformer, and enables the PFC circuit. Samsung have a known problem with a low value resistor downstream of that transistor failing, so the PFC circuit does not come on. The main board senses that, and cycles the power board to prevent the tv from working until the fault is rectified (or maybe they hope you'll purchase another tv from them)...

      PS: 93% of the flats made, have the LED backlight voltages purposely over driven (too much voltage)....WHY??? Because LED's practically last forever compared to incandescent lighting, Hence, that new Vizio 65" 4k might last you 12-17 years if we keep the LED voltages to spec (3.4vdc or sometimes 6vdc per LED), and OH Hellz to the NO, We'll make sure your buying another TV in 2 to 3 years after warranty expires. _" So overdrive the LED warp engines Mr Scott..Warp Factor 6"_
      Want a quick, no cost, done by remote way to add 5-7 years more to that 4K 70" behemoth??
      Simply go into your TV's menu via remote, and go to your picture settings and turn down the backlight from "100" (Factory default) to about 50-60, You'll probably won't even see the difference, but all those little light emitting diodes will, by about 1.8 - 2.1 vdc...and they will thank you for it by shining on for another dozen seasons of _"Game of Walking Dead Thrones Breaking Bad on 911"_ ...or whatever your fav shlok slop tv idiot-box show of choice currently is....

    I used to repair that kind of problem, I agree it's expensive if you do it the proper way, even without, because handling the LCD part of the TV is one of the most delicate things you do in electronics, even with all that, I used to charge around 500 pesos here in Mexico, that is 20 pounds, or 25 USD. If you are careful handling the display, the rest is easy, but is also time consuming, I think that's the main reason in this particular case it will be expensive to repair.

Please master, what is the problem and solution? Please help, it's really urgent. Thanks a lot!

      i'm not able to handle anything :) Even if you your laptop will be beeping again, you have to try and resolder the processor on the graphic side

    Are you going to post any video on desktop components? You cover laptops, smartphones, TVs, tablets, but no desktop and I think that a lot of people are interested in that. Dead desktop motherboards,graphics cards are a problem for a lot of people...

    can you put a resistor in series with the defective led rail so that the system sees it as a load and would not shut down?

    • @Sloxx701
      @Sloxx701 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If the LED on that strip has failed open (and they usually do), then no a resistor wont help. LEDs on the strips are wired in series and the strips themselves are wired in parallel. You will see the good strips light up, but only for an instant before the feedback circuit shuts them off. You can bypass the feedback circuit like he did for troubleshooting, but not really a good idea long term. Best to either replace the LED, use a diode, or jump it out in my opinion
      If the LED has failed shorted, you could use a resistor but probably better of using a diode. It's hard to match replacement LEDs for color/brightness, so when they fail I just use a 1N4148 diode as a bypass.

      Dacke good, so you just place an 1N4148 with polarity same as the original diode right? so voltage is going as if it were the original led? . Also I did as sorin how he came up to trace route the smd transistor and realized bridging it will overpass the backlight circuit can you explain to me ?

    i have never trusted leds for lighting, they just dont seem to last :-(

    • @pedrof.7821
      @pedrof.7821 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well they are the best so far.
      Also they don't last because people always put them on 100% brightness.
      It's like having a car that goes up to 300Km\h, if you are always at this maximum speed, the car will not last longer.

    • @BenjaminEsposti
      @BenjaminEsposti 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't had any problems with good quality LED lighting. It's always the cheap stuff that runs LEDs at too high a temperature, or has poor current matching, or even poor connections on the LED die.
