This looks great, but I'm disappointed that the lemon juice wasn't from Martha's own organic lemons grown in her own sub-tropical greenhouse, just behind the apple orchard and antique cider press. Would have made all the difference.
Why peel the apples, just wash and core, cut in pieces and cook on the stove till tender. Then run through the Foley Food Mill or the Kitchen Aid attachment and put the sauce into the crock pot along with your spices and let cook down? Makes it easier. I have canned many jars of applesauce in my life. Grandma Sue
There was a restaurant in or near Kankakee IL called Yesteryear in a Frank Lloyd Wright bldg. Instead of serving rolls before the guest's meal, the table got garlic toast with a thin spread of apple butter. It was fabulous!
I've loved Martha's talent and taste for many, many years. However, it's interesting to see who she likes and approves of and who she feels she can boss around. She's enamoured with Snoop Dog, for instance, yet this little lady felt the Martha "chill."
Martha Stewart built a $1.5b empire built entirely - and exclusively - on her own competence in every field of domestic endeavor. That other lady doesn't know the difference between a can and a jar.
Unbelievable! They didn't clean the rim of the jars before putting lids on. When the funnel is removed you run the risk of small bits getting on the rim. If you values whatever they can in jars and want to know it is safe for years, always clean your rims!
There really isnt certain amounts too add, it all depends soley on what kinds if apples you are using and what your oersonal prefrences are. As long as you add sugar, brown sugar, cinnamin, nutmeg and cloves its all just done to taste. Personally i start with 1 cup sugar, 1 cup brown sugar, 2 tsp cinnamon then just "pinches", of the rest, then i just add in more of what i feel it needs as i taste it during the cooking. Its fool proof really...and delicious no matter what. I just made 6 pints today and have 12 more to do... 😁
I halted this recipe and did only 1/2 cup of sugar in total and it was SOOOO good! Made the house smell amazing and such a sweet tasty jam like apple pie f illing
@Diane Howard. I just mafe the recipe on the channel Foodwishes (Chef John). Turned out perfect however I think I will use less sugar next time. His video is on TH-cam and ingredients are in his blog. Easy recipe, you don't have to peel the apples.
+Dee Nagle Some people put a LOT of sugar. I put about one cup organic sugar per 12-13 apples (unless they are tart apples, in which case I would put more).
Dee Nagle I know this is a year later but I have played with this recipe and have used brown sugar instead of white so yum also used Spenda in stead of sugar also very good so you can play with the whole sugar thing. All together I use about 2 cups.
It depends in your personal tastes. You can go sugar free, and just have spiced Apple butter. I usually use 1 cup soft brown sugar (packed) + 2 tablespoons molasses for a rich caramelized flavour. Also: I've swapped the liquids to 1 cup Kentucky bourbon + 1/4 cup Apple juice. So deliciously bomb!
I think it would be nice if they gave the audience some. Oprah did. She gave out samples of tasty breads desserts chocolates even drinks. That day on her show. But the day everybody got a new car was and still is EPIC !!!!!!!!!!!!
yah its alweese smart to leave a electric appliance on cooking when sleeping hey you no whats better wi not take a curling iron and leave that on to and leave it sit on a bet of paper. its not smart the leave things turned on and cooking I no I have had friends and nabers who have left things cooking rand net store or down the road came back a few minites later and book house on fire.

+vorkev1 as a electricians daughter i can say it's safe. More than likely they had a power surge, wiring was bad or the crock pot had a shortage. They made crockpots to have food put in it and be left alone.
If you watch and listen she tells you the amount of each ingredient, except the sugar which looks to be about 1 & 1/2 cups. - 5 pounds of assorted apples, peeled, cored and cut into medium sized pieces - 2 cups of apple cider - 1 & 1/2 cups is sugar - 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice - 1/2 teaspoon of salt - 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon ginger - 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Star anise is optional
@@GrizzlyTank I found a recipe similar to this that uses brown and white and I agree with you it also gives a richer darker color. I am just learning all of this canning stuff after being a cook for about 25 years. Lots of free time at the moment.
The problem is both slow cookers and apples are different. You let it cook til it looks right... or tastes like you want it to. Think 10 hours on low or so. I personally put it in a blender (carefully, don't burn yourself!) and then cook it down some more. You don't want it runny. Put a dollop on a saucer and let it cool. If water separates from it, it's not yet done. You can also freeze it in containers rather than canning it.
Nobody can throw that shade like Martha.
Made this recipe last year and it turned out fantastic. Toward the end I used an immersion blender to make it smooth.TY Martha. You rock.

lol! And don't forget the nutmeg grown on her own plantation just before the sub-tropical greenhouse.

She does that with almost every guest. I wonder why they even come back.

Martha sucks, as usual.

Martha, put the damn grater down! She's putting nutmeg in there like she's trying to kick an addiction

OMG just made some maple pumpkin butter....do it it is amazing!!!
How much sugar? Did you use apple juice with water in it, or concentrated? Thank you.
Lulu4Him cider. It's pure, from apples and not from concentrate. It's homemade and that's how you know. 👍🏼
nice

just found this, but big mistake that was made was, that neither of them wiped the rim of the jars down before putting the lids on,,
Could you make this in a pressure cooker instead?
how much mace
Is it apple cider or apple cider vinegar, I’ve seen multiple different recipes. I Love using the star anise in this one!
Apple cider
that looks like apple sauce! My apple butter takes more time energy and MADE with LOVE from my own heart.lol {Robin R.}
You don't like the word dump because it reminds you of a dump. But you are okay with apple cider from your garage 🤔🤔
What's this 1/2 teaspoon of all that goodness in all that wonderfulness
It’s not very clear... do you leave the Slow cooker on all night long? I don’t get it.
At 2:31min on the video timer it tells you !
I hate the word dump lmao
Yes Rafael you leave it on. Turned low.
Please make sure you have a wire rack in the bottom of the pot you are using for the glass jars to sit on, as jar's will break...
They used one
I’ve made apple butter for almost 50 years and never have i added lemon juice…definitely not essential. 🤷🏻♂️
Why not mix the spices in a large bowl befor you put it the slow cooker. Then add the star Anise
Probably to explain what each spice was when they added them. Pretty sure you can mix them all ahead of time if you wanted.
Martha made this woman like she didn't know what she was doing. Martha thinks no one but her can do anything in the kitchen. Poor Martha, so insecure.

Coffee pot and a crock pot are not the same thing. The pots are designed for long slow cocking
People have been leaving food in the crockpot and the oven or on the burner for ages. It's not unsafe.

No recipe just whatever she said. Give us an ingredient list Martha FFS.
