- The nation’s deadliest national park is becoming even deadlier as the number of deaths reported at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area halfway through 2024 is about to surpass the total number from previous years, according to data the 8 News Now Investigators obtained.

Biggest explosion of population and inexperienced boaters, combined with heat, alcohol and stupidity.
YEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yet, there are no real restrictions. Can't have it both ways! But that's Vegas: The population in greater LV is nearing 3 million people, and the construction continues with no end in sight. Not even considering the amount of resources needed to sustain that many people in the desert, places like Lake Mead and the Red Rock Recreation Area are inundated with people now, and too many of them are just too irresponsible and don't give a sh*t about what they break or the garbage they leave, let alone how they affect other people. Sad.
Trumptards...
And not necessarily in that order.
@@Failure_Is_An_Option Without a doubt.
Lake Mead is not considered a National Park, it is a National Recreation area.
Was about to comment same thing 😂
Why let the facts get in the way of a hyped up piece of news?
@@Cabin365 me too, the reporter called it a recreation area
It is a national cemetery now

Boats are getting faster, and people are getting drunker
The ghosts from the Roaring 20's just said hold my beer
And stupider
The gal says we’re all about safety… I didn’t see one single life jacket , so obviously you’re not about that!…
Out of 19 deaths, there were 4 drownings and 2 heat related deaths. What the hell were the others13 deaths from?
Being stupid,🤣 I would guess
I was wondering the same thing. Crazy that they said that….brb
💉?
Funny no mention of probably the biggest factor of deaths, Alcohol !!!!!!
Anyone else wonder when Lake Mead became a National Park?
The rip current here is off the charts. Even advanced swinmers aren't 100% safe here.
Rip current ?
As if people know where "here" is...😂
@@flipphonewizard5448 Would have been nice if the news report had explained anything. It doesn't seem to be a place with a rip current. But if it's going to be 100 degrees I'm going in the water so I'd put my life jacket on.

Sometimes people die doing fun shit, its been happening since the dawn of humanity.
Death kills more people every year than all other causes combined.

The same idiots on the roads become worse on the water!
4 drownings, 2 heat related deaths. And the other 13??
This little segment was more of a piece with some dude out there sarcastically telling people "Ohh, you think you're safe HUH??" No context in the beginning, no highlighting the reason for the deaths, or safety precautions until the lady at the end quickly mentioned some of it in 5 seconds. Great "report".
Agree.. lazy reporting, typical shameful garbage that passes for "journalism" nowadays.
Watch out for those 'heats'.
Spot on. Another media broad brushed gaslighting job. Eff 8 News Vegas.
gangsta hits, man. aka natural causes
Stop watching the news than, boomer
Who writes this crap.
I'd like to take credit for it, but am currently relieving myself on a San Francisco sidewalk. That, and it's kind of congested.
It wouldn't surprise me if life jackets are required in swimming pools someday❤❤
Distraction from the real news . Did you hear about the 200 kids they found in a trafficking ring ?
I don't know what this segment is supposed to be but it isn't news as I understand the term.
It's actually, here in CA, Newtonian Newsom physics.
Lake Mead is not a national park. It's a National Recreation Area. Huge difference in what activities are allowed.
Please cite the details, reasons, causes, and responsibilities. To learn from to prevent further loss of life.
this is why we should all stay at home on our couches, just watching TH-cam
Amen.
Watching other people die and be idiots! lol Idiocracy was a true documentary on the state of America currently. hahaha
Thats my solution. I did enough crazy crap when I was younger, avoiding trouble is actually not that bad, I am happy.
Dont be scared touch some grass but be on the look out for dangerous unleashed dogs.
Swim in a pool. But dont dive head first into 3 ft. Of water.
Roast some marshmellows. But dont try and jump over the fire.
Install a sound system in your car. But disconnect the battery first.
I'm here to tell you that watching TH-cam can be real dangerous. My uncle's second cousin twice removed was watching a coon hunting video on TH-cam and got up to get a cold beer. He was hurrying because he didn't want to miss anything. On the way back from the kitchen he tripped over a blue tick hound that was sleeping just inside the living room door. He managed to keep ahold of the beer but he fell hard, hitting his shoulder on the casing of a chainsaw he'd borrowed from a neighbor a year or so ago and never returned, and dislocated his shoulder something fierce. Now, this never would've happened but for TH-cam (and, of course, because the damn fool didn't know how to pause the video in the first place). Life is tough and unforgiving.
“we know how to swim” - found the next victim.
My Navy dad always made us wear life jackets and I hated them. Now that I am older, I am grateful he cared.
That guy with the hat is naive no life jacket on that’s a major mistake. If something happens you go overboard you won’t be able to float. Drunks will also kill you.
You are absolutely right,if something happens and you hit your head on something and end up unconscious you can't count on your drunk buddies to save you.i never, never get on a boat without a life preserver that fits and has multiple fasteners that are in good shape and stay connected. People laugh about it but I won't be one of the dead ones when someone driving a speedboat is drunk and slam's into the boat I'm on.
Where is the reporter's life jacket?
We sent our least favorite reporter to check it out.
I didn’t see them wearing life jackets.
That’s why many people drown. Then all the drunks operating machinery.
Boats overloaded with weight also
I thought it was a law to wear life vest
@@rkm5369in my state, only minors have to. But there has to be a jacket for every person.
I know the people on that first guys boat. Yeah they think that the water isn’t that rough
Here's a saftey tip.... don't have TV journalists standing in the middle of the boat ramp while boats are backing in.
I grew up living on a houseboat all summer, every summer.
My gosh! How did I ever survive?
Not your time, it will eventually arrived in most unexpected time for most of us. If you put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, Son of the one true living God, you can be at peace that death is just the beginning. "O' death, where is thy sting."
-Holy Bible
Exactly! I’ve been in boats in all kind of weather - sailboats, speedboats and the only time I wore life jackets was water skiing (having been knocked unconscious hitting the water at over 40 mph while wearing one), and racing across Lake Ontario at night in 40 knot weather under spinnaker.
I was a VERY experienced seaman (was because I’ve lost interest in boating) and always went to sea with experienced, capable boaters, and NEVER f@#ked around with people who drank alcohol heavily or were irresponsible.
@@j.l.salayao8055
I attribute it more to common sense & critical thinking rather than superstition
You didn't. We didn't want to tell you.
Too much water in the lake ????
Alcohol and stupidity caused all these deaths.. life jackets didn't.. If you just cruising around the lake having a few beers it's damn near impossible to drown
being sober is the biggest issue
It’s survival of the fitness…
Still way safer than Chicago on any given day
Fear pushers
YUP, I'd take my kids and others. I spent good money for the high quality, comfortable life jackets. We all always worr them. And it was alot of peace of mind when something went a little wrong.
Life vest isn't for people who can't swim, it is for people who can Swim like a fish or dolphin except that they are Passed-Out or Knocked out before fell into the water. Her answer tells us why so many died each year coupled with their Budweiser binge
since when is mead a national park?
It’s the news, they ain’t too bright
Money can buy the boat but not experience or sense
People are deadly...not the lake.
Is this really a story? Unless you're going to give us the stats on number of visitors, number of deaths, ages of deceased, BACs of the deceased, causes of death, etc., then it's not news, just a story.
All these people are saying how "safety first", yet, did not seen on single life jacket
When you repeat the line "do not mix drinking with swimming" haw about explaining why. Alcohol does more than impair judgment, it messes with a person's sense of up and down, which can be a deadly combo in the water.
Going to lake Mead has become a survival challenge?
The only danger about the lake is like everything else in this world. Human stupidity.
Very sad for the lost ones and family.
Maybe things have changed. When we lived there 2000-2010, we always went to Callville to launch. The parking lot always seemed full and the boat launch got a little crazy at times but once on the lake and through the narrows we hardly saw anyone. Everyone seemed to stay around Lake Mead Marina / Boulder City area part of the lake. There were still a lot of deaths on the lake though but I don't recall this many for this time of the year.
Is Lake Mead full again?? Cause they told us it would never refill!
no haha. its still over 100 feet low
Stop hating
Be smart act smart that's what I always say.
why have misleading reporting...
I thought this news was about the follow up on those dead bodies from mafia eras they discovered during drought.
I wonder how many people have died in car accidents driving to and from Lake Mead in the past hundred years.
On a positive note....No Sharks!
I see Kyle couldn’t make it as a prospector. Hope he still has the mule!
Thats where Ghost Adventures needs to do their next episode.
The gov't will consider closing it. That will "save lives".
Your chances of survival there are 100% better than if you were in NYC LA or any other big city at any given time.
1:28 1 second after getting off a boat with no life jacket, while standing on the rocking dock, telling us how other people should act.
This whole video is a scare tactic.
It's DESERT brainiacs. There used to hundreds of lakes in California thousands of years ago🙄
please explain to these "news" people that when there is no water to launch a boat few people can die boating. They have been telling us for 10 years that the lake is history....the cycle of rain hits the lake fills the boats come and more people tragically die boating. also I am shocked that it gets hot in Nevada
I thought this was a Simpson's take-off.
He says this, while blocking a lane, for boat ramp.
I'm going to send my mother-in-law there.
And how many dead bodies were put in it to cover up murders?
We'll, if you hit that water face first in a rollover half drunk you'll be darn glad you all wore your life-vests, because you remembered watching this news clip right before your trip to the lake I'd wager. Great report guys, thank you!
Man doing a report on people dying in this area
Everyone in the background
“😎👋👋 what did he say?”
There's more of a chance that you D1E driving to the lake, than on the lake. Report on that.
If you arent in the coast gaurd adults dont always wear a vest for every boat trip
I just watched a different video that said the Great Smoky Mountains NP was the most deadly.
Some of the phrasing, "record breaking heats" and "we're very safety out here"
angels landing in zion NP is prety dangerous too. boating accidents are diff
Look, these reporters are from Las Vegas. You can't expect details and professionalism. You just have to go on looks and camera angles.
Looks huh?
“We’re Very Safety Out Here” 😆🎉 0:50
So, what happened to the other 13?
How scary
0:49 "we're very safety out here" 1:44 "don't forget about those probable record breaking HEATS" . . . . . . .Too Smart!!
We sent our least favorite reporter to the deadliest place in the area!

What only those who have a life preserver on will be safe?
Freshwater is not easy to swim in.
what happened to the other 12?
Its one of the hottest places in the country. It has always been like that .
Those lakelurks certainly are dangerous.. Then there's the Legion and NCR blasting at anything that moves and each other... That's gotta be what happened to the 19 deaths and obviously the majority of casualties at the lake..
Sheesh.
It's a national treasure! Take care of it and take care of yourselves! Happy 4th of July 2024!
Just watched a movie where a guy sticks a knife in the back of the head of a shark before it attack an alligator and the blood comes rushing out
Why do alligators and sharks have no necks?
DARWIN IS SMILING AT THESE FOOLS . . .
For the clueless dummy who commented, “We know how to swim!” A life jacket is not to make you a swimmer. It keeps your body from sinking if you are incapacitated. Jeezus!
“I can swim”. Doesn’t look like you could swim very far, and definitely not if you’re unconscious from a collision.
Watch for Mirelurks.
Katelynn’s not to bright as HER SAFETY CONSCIOUS FAMILY OVERLOADS That tiny dingy. Good job dad
Fear is the mind killer…
Two kinds of boaters floaters and sinkers! Floaters wear PFD’s! Sinkers do not! Boater since 1960!!
Remember when the lake dried up and they found bodies the mob had thrown over board. Elwood Mead had something to do with building the damn. Was born in Patriot In🇺🇲
No alcohol - got it.
We know how to swim? For how long? They all want to go 100 mph also. They mix drinking with every thing related to being there.
It's a number we can live with?
Or
Does it remove people from the gene pool?
Maybe the deceased could get something like a Dawrin award.😢
I wear my regardless when I'm fishing on a boat and even tho you know how to swim the arizona heat plus will drain you engery out fast then you think

Yeah. With all those Cazadores and Mirelurk Kings ou there, I'd rather pitch my tent somevhere else.
