- After spending the past several weeks riding the current crop of 2024 250 MX bikes, we coordinated one giant day of back-to-back comparison testing that involved a private track, six bikes, a dozen new Dunlop tires, five test riders, and a whopping 17 support technicians from the manufacturers to make sure the bikes were performing their best. When the dust settled, our panel of test riders arrived at a clear-cut winner for the 2024 250 MX Bike of the Year honors. Click play to see how the machines stacked up! I love that retro '93 look on the Yamaha. I had a '93 YZ125 I got from an NESC expert in New England back in the day, and I loved that thing.
I’d love to see this test (or the 450 test)done on a loamy deep tilled track to see if it would shake the results up. This isn’t a a Pala national prep is it? This track looks dry and hard as all get out lol.

Front mouse helps with the front end feel on the ktm.
That anniversary edition Yamaha is so choice, and that Kawi is bad ass. Year after year, you can never go wrong with Yamaha, Kawasaki, or Honda.
It’s always interesting when they say the Yamaha has the hardest hitting power, most power, most pull etc when on the dyno it’s significantly less Hp and torque than the ktm trio only slightly more than the Honda which is classed as slow. Never under stood this, I rode a pipe and ecu tune 22 a fully stock 23 yam and wasn’t overwhelmed with the “hit” or pull more of a sound effect than anything, but I am coming from a stock 350 and ktm 250, suspension wise i agree it was good and stable, brilliant fork.
if you look at the dyno chart is more powerfull down low
@@vaughanhodgson it really isn’t even tho I may feel that way off the bottom it’s actually 1 fltb down at 2k and 2ftlb down at 4k about the same at 6k and a further ftlb down at 8k 23 vs 23 and since then heavier chain on the 24 yam it’ll be down on ftlbs again
Questions: With the Forks Dialed in, is the KX250f great and would have done better in the shoot out?
After listening to shoot outs lately it seems like the Kawasaki 250f took a step backwards when it started sharing the 450 chassis, if so then is an older model like a 2021 or 2022 a better Kawasaki?
If you had the option to buy a new or like New Previous Generation Yamaha, a New 2023 , either a like new 2020-2023 Yamaha, wouldn't that be the way to go?
Is a 2024 KTM 250 the perfect bike if you upgrade to oil filled forks?
Sure, the yz from 21-23 is the same bike fully capable of winning this shootout. And is faster the the new 24’ according to mxa’s dyno.

I do love the look of the 50th anniversary edition though.
But I like the stability of the last module. I would take more stability over better cornering.
The 24 seems like it would be good for Supercross though, So Deegan should do well on it IMO
Buy whatever you can get a good deal on an average rider like myself will not even notice the differences they're talkin about I had a yz250f but I thought was a great bike bought a new 2022 kx250f I do think it rides nicer and handles way better than the yz

I just wish that Suzuki would up their game with an e-start and so on. I´m not a Suzuki fan, but have two of those in my garage. Five other bikes as well.. I ride a 350 KTM usually, but it would be an interesting test if my lap times would be better on a 2013 250 Suzuki or my 2021 350 KTM. Suzuki does not have the power of the 350, but I´m an amateur/vet rider, and I like the Suzuki a lot. It has the low end grunt and good mid range. It does lack top end, as to where the KTM has crazy power. I´ve ridden 250 KTM´s and Yamahas, and those are too high revving and lack in the mid range for me. 2013 250 Honda is just sluggish all round, but is a lot of fun since you can just flog it without any fear. I do like my old 2005 Suzuki 450. Old school carburated 4 gear smooth power. Too plush on the suspension, but that can be fixed. A lot of fun to play with. Carves really well and has enough power. Just don´t ride it too slow or it will heat up and start to flame out. I like the stability of the big four strokes, just keep your knees tight, power on, and those will clear any ruts. No 2-stroke can do that. Last year I raced the 450 Suzuki in a CC race. Had a lot of fun. It´s not always about the bike, just have fun.
Post the 24 Dyno chart. As you know the charts do not always tell how the bike performs. The numbers could be higher but still produce lower laptimes. Out of the box the YZF is easiest to go fast on.
Those clowns over at MXA had Yamaha in 4th behind all 3 Austrian bikes.

I often see broken frames from ktm, and I always wonder why no one from these guys, never mention this,from where I come we Do not even have pros, and although I often see broken frames from the austrians, all in. The same place near the triple clamps no. One says nothing, maybe in the USA with your new ktm , they give you a second frame .for free.

Wondering if I should get the 23 or 24 YZ250 because I heard the 24 lost some bottom end and I’m not a big fan of the sound…but I like the slim shrouds and rider triangle. Anybody can help me decide? Lol
