I watched that game on TV as a child (& Mets fan) I’ve never heard anybody remember that “as Willie’s last game”. (even though it was) To my recollection, it was always known as game#7, where the A’s beat the Met’s, & winning the 1973 World Series. After being down 2 Ganes to 3 against, the Miracle Mets. Willie dropped a couple of easy fly balls during that World Series. He should’ve retired a year earlier.
I met Tom Hanks last Sunday when the A's went against the Yankees & he pulled up in my direction because I'm a Traffic Attendant for VIP & my eyes popped out wide & my jaw dropped down. Just a brief encounter but certainly rare for me, he definitely seems like a nice guy very funny too.
I’m not sure if I believe his Willie Mays story. 2:40 Willie’s last game was game#7, where the A’s beat my Mets. I watched the game on TV, as child. The game was not known/remembered as “Willie Mays last game”. It was known as the “A’s” winning the 1973 World Series, After being down 2 Ganes to 3 against, the Miracle Mets.
